"The Adventures of SMB3" made me do it
In case you missed my earlier status update, I began making a weekly Super Mario Bros. comic called "Super Mario Bros. Fun" (since "fun" rhymes with "one") for my SMB1 website. If you like sprite comics, you can view it here. What inspired me to do this? Earlier this year, I bought some Super Mario Bros. cartoons on DVD, you know, the ones from the early '90s. I was too busy watching "Garfield & Friends" and the Saturday morning CBS line up to switch over to NBC to see what they were doing when I was a kid. But from the episodes I've seen of "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3", I think I would have really liked the show, since I like the game. They add in actual game sound effects and music, which is cool. One of my favorite episodes is one where they're in Paris because it features my favorite power-up: Kuribo's Shoe. They call it something else in the show. Man I wish that shoe would make a return. If it's in New Super Mario Bros. 3DS, I would get a 3DS for that and Mario Kart 3DS whenever it comes out. Well, anyway, the fact that they used actual SFX and music in the game made me want to make a comic with actual game graphics, so I powered up my emulator. All the comics are of actual screenshots (except with small modifications here and there as the comic subject warrants), but it's one panel, like the Far Side and my other comic, 47 Meatballs. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this and upcoming SMBFun comics because the emulator is hard to play, as opposed to an NES controller. I'm just thankful you can type z, x and an arrow key at the same time on the keyboard. I suppose I should look into getting a USB NES controller.
