Padded R(o)om
I was working like crazy trying to make the sound right in my Virtual Boy game. My Flash Boy has been put to good use so far, testing and retesting my game with the same results: My game wasn't working like I wanted it to. It takes about 100 seconds for the game to load on the Flash Boy cart, so I've probably spent about a half-hour total just waiting for the game to load, each time getting angrier and angrier because I wasn't doing something right. One time I had accidentally moved a ROM to the Rom Padder folder instead of opening it with the Rom Padder. So I had asked for help, but when it became clear that nobody was going to help me, I began working like a dog trying to make the stupid thing work. Finally I got a good idea: Why not use channel 0 for the speech and channel 1 for the music? And by golly, that did it. I also updated the title screen music, adding some more notes. The problem was, when you hit START in the middle of a match and then hit SELECT to go back to the title screen, the music wasn't playing on a real Virtual Boy (it was playing fine in Mednafen, though.) I think it had something to do with the audio channel settings. I don't know, but I was growing steadily crazier with each time it wasn't working. Anyway, I've got someone to design some fighter sprites for me, mainly because I can't draw, so once he gets done designing Gi-Ant's sprite, it will be interesting to see what he comes up with for a giant ant sprite. So that's what I've been doing the last two days.
