those darn jackdaws (part 2)
What I had intended to do with this project is re-record songs I've already composed. What I've done instead is compose new ones. Here's how my creative process goes sometimes.
#1 - think of a phrase. In this case I wrote down "breakfast in New Zealand."
#2 - write the melody and figure out the notes. This part was especially hard with this song. You want to make sure you don't already compose something that's already done (like George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord"...) and want to make sure that it's an original melody. Eventually I got it to not sound like the Moody Blues' "Nights In White Satin."
#3 - write the lyrics if I want to. For this song, I figured it would be better if it was "breakfast in Washington."
#4 - record what I thought up. For the first track, I sang and played the piano at the same time, but then I started experimenting playing the piano once and then singing it separately and then merging the two tracks together so it sounds like I sang while I played the piano. It usually takes somewhere between 30-60 minutes to play what I've done perfectly and not mess up in my mind. (I apparently can't play the keyboard so well. My fingers suck at responding to my brain's commands. Or something.) You could argue I can't sing all that well either. This is due to my voice being sucky.
Well anyway, in other news, I'm in talks to maybe make a box for Captain Bruce. I made the comic smaller so it would fit in the box without being folded (again.) Its new size is perfect for stapling. I got an Odyssey game from someone here even though I don't have a console. Whenever they go up for sale on eBay, they always go to at least $125, which is out of my price range. I think the most I spent at once for a game system is at least half that, and that was for the rarer NES, an exception because I got sick and tired of trying to pull the stupid cartridges out of the NES. I don't know why they made it so hard, I had to use pliers! Well, anyway, maybe Captain Bruce will be released in April or May instead of March after all.
