I have been having problems with my computer.

So I am at the point where I say "just screw it. I'm going to get a new one."

I did find a maybe problem. SeaTools' Full Scan is going. This is going to take at least a few hours. Right now I'm about an hour in and found this:

"Files infected: 1"

I don't know what this could be and, of course, could take hours to finally figure out what it is because I'm guessing it's not even 20% finished with the scan. It could turn out to be just totally bogus crap that isn't "infected," or it could be a real infection.

So, I've had it. I'm just going to get a new computer. Anyone have any suggestions of what model, etc. I should get?

It sounds like your problems are software rather than hardware. If you're ready to start over, maybe you just need a new operating system? Perhaps a clean install of the one you've got, or a new one? (Ubuntu is free and pretty user-friendly)

Well, the scan got finished and the one bad file was named something like "Trojan" or something. And it's gone. But I don't have a CD of Windows Vista, it was installed from the second I turned it on for the first time. The thing is almost 3 years old (September of 2009 is when I bought it), so methiinks it's time for a new one. I'm looking at this one in a Best Buy ad that has 4 GB of memory and a 500 GB hard drive.

OK, well you know best how much you have to spend, and what you'll be using the computer for. If you do want to save money, even a new copy of Windows would be cheaper than a new computer.

If your system can run Vista, chances are pretty good it can run Windows 7 too. To be sure, here are the system requirements from Microsoft.

Well, ever since I got rid of that bad file, the room free has been a steady 255. So I may not need to get a new computer after all...
