I made a backup after I bought my Sony Vaio in 2009.

If something goes wrong, I'll use the dvd backup to restore everything. I won't need to buy a new computer.

 

You should do the same with your newest computer.

Yeah, you should really invest in an external harddrive for backing up your stuff. There's no reason in this day and age that you should be RE-ripping all of your music. Probably for the tenth time (and trust me, I know how long it takes).

I know what are you talking about. I ripped all mp3s on the computer too.

 

You also rip all unused stuff on your computer and make a backup after that. My backup is saved on a dvd.

Exactly. That part doesn't even take all that long either, as computers get more powerful. If I am going to format these days, I generally have all the drivers and applications I know I will need and used regularly ready to go on a backed up disc (or in a text document ready to refer to if I just want to download them from the web). Speeds up the process quite and it's hardly painful anymore.
