Gamecube mods

I want to play Donkey Konga 3. Since Nintendo (stupidly) decided to region-lock the Gamecube, I have to resort to modding my console. I know absolutely nothing about modding any console at all. I wish there was someone here at AA who could mod my console for me. I also wonder if I got DK Bongo Blast for the Wii and plugged in my bongo controllers if it would work that way. Probably not. Sure, Nintendo, release Jungle Beat but not Bongo Blast. Not release Donkey Konga 3 stateside. I guess I'm the only DK Bongo freak in the United States. I wanted to make a DK Bongo compatible game but my dreams were squashed when I realized just how hard it is to get my hands on Gamecube game-making software. Page after page of a Google search found nothing. Maybe I could pay someone to make one for me. Here's the idea I had. It's a Space-Invaders-style game. "Donkey Kong: Banana Bash" has Donkey Kong throwing bananas at banana hating aliens. HItting the bongos left and right moves DK left and right, while a clap fires. DK would be at the bottom of the screen in a jungle setting, while the aliens would be off the ground, a little higher than the trees. Then the aliens would slowly move down until they hit DK. The aliens would try to drop pineapples on DK's head. Getting a program of this would be payback for Nintendo for not loving the DK Bongos more.

When the Wii starts a GameCube game, it effectively becomes a GameCube. So there shouldn't be a problem with the bongo controllers on the Wii. If you hunt around on Wiibrew.org it looks like there's some utilities to remove region coding. However, I bet you could pick up a Japanese GameCube for next to nothing on eBay.

Good question, but it appears the plugs are compatible. Japan is 100V, which should be close enough to North America 120V not to let out the magic smoke.
