My DVD recorder is dead today,

My DVD recorder is plugged but nothing happens. No light! No sound. Nothing!

Few recorded DVDs can play on my computer.

Yeah. My older VCR recorder still works. It can record videos but without sound. Still, it can play recorded VCR cassettes with pictures and sound.

Go figure!

Anything built the last 20 years is not built to last. Lucky to get 5 years from medium-tasked unit.

I was going to buy a new DVD recorder but after reading your comments ....

After some searches from Google, it's seen like a Panasonic common problem.

I'd choose another company.

Every consumer electronics company will have problems with some models. It's tough to make generalizations based upon a single model.

I have a second generation Panasonic A110 DVD player which is over a decade old and still working and a 27" Panny CRT which is still good after more than 15 years. But my 52" Toshiba LCD started suffering from dead columns shortly after the warranty ran out (a common problem for this model), although my decade old 25" Toshiba CRT is still good.
