Gadsby
Well, I did it. I shouldn't have bought anything with it being so close to Christmas, but I did anyway. I bought a book. The book is a novel called "Gadsby." It was written by Ernest Wright. It is a lipogram. The novel has over 50,000 words and there is no letter E in any of them. The book is e-less. I guess you can say it has a few Es on the cover for the author's name, but that's it. Most of the time, I'm not really into reading novels, but this one should be interesting. There should be no instances of the word "the," as well as half of the 50 most commonly used words in English. And it would be good to study since I'm in the midst of writing an E-less story myself. I use the find function in Microsoft Word and search for "e." And every time it does come up, I have to think of a different way of phrasing things. Unfortuately, my last name is Read, so I'd have to use a pen name if I want the cover to not have any e's either. I'm thinking something like "My Butt Hurts by Chris Jones." I could use Smith or Larryson or some other surname that doesn't have an E in it. The name of my novel is "My Butt Hurts," since I don't know how the story will end up. I just keep writing and writing until I reach a conclusion. I do have a main plot point though. It's about aliens from the planet Uranus invading Earth. And gold. I don't know why I keep mentioning it. I'm only at 8,500 words so far, so I have a long ways to go if I want to reach 50,000. Funny thing is though, my novel is only 13 pages right now. You'd think it would be bigger. Gadsby is less than 200 pages. You'd think it would be bigger since it has over 50,000 words. The good thing is I don't care if it comes by Christmas or not. I just want it to come. (It should come before Christmas, though. It's only the 14th. But you never know with the USPS.) Well, anyway, I made a website where you can download my story in pdf format, and follow its progress. I'm back working on it. http://www.atari2600land.com/mybutthurtsastory.html
