  2. Austin St. John, the original Red Ranger of Power Rangers, has been indicted for wire fraud.  How could he do such a thing?

  3. Had an idea: I call it the "Jaguar-Vision-5200", because those would be the games it's made for (Atari Jaguar & Atari 5200, Colecovision, and Intellivison) might be best for emulation rather than actual hardware though...

  5. Asteroite has finally been streamed:

@phoboz @Songbird That was for you.

  6. is resisting the urge to post "Supper's Ready" in the Favorite Genesis music thread.

I had an EX GF who met him once...Kind of funny I thought;  Some of his friends came in (to a fast food restaurant in L.A.) asking if he'd been in yet,  because they were supposed to meet him...So then when he got there,  people were ready to meet him.   Now,  whether his friends were there to hype him up,  or just were legitimately trying to make sure they hadn't accidentally missed him...Who knows?

    2. Atarian7

It was pretty funny when Al called him "gas passer B" and "bed wetter B".

  8. I'm looking at putting together some raspberry pi projects...1) use raspberry pi for 8-bit basic programing and 2) Atari labs modules?

    Any advice?

  9.  I've made a few major updates to my website over the past month.

The first update is review of over 30 prototypes that came from the collection of a former reviewer for a newspaper.  Most of these protos were the same as the final version, but some had minor differences.  The most interesting part of this lot was that there were some 7800 protos which had some minor (very minor) differences.  Special thanks to Frank "Redeye" Cifaldi for sending these roms to me.

The second update is actually something I've been meaning to do for a long time.  As some of you are aware a video of the Atari Q2 1983 In-House Promo was found many years ago.  This video shows several 2600 and 5200 games that were in development at the time, several of which were unreleased.  The interesting part is that many of the games are in early stages of development, showing many many differences.  Some of them are so early that they probably were never burned onto EPROMs so this video is the only way we'll ever see them (you can even watch one being loaded from a Mainframe in the beginning of the video).  I've analyzed the video and attempted to document all the differences I saw and made pages about them.  Xevious and Sport Goofy were the two most interesting ones, but there's also a tech demo for an unknown 5200 game that is briefly shown in the video too.

So if you have some time to kill, please check these updates out: http://www.atariprotos.com/

You can see the video on youtube here:

  11. ------ Joke of the Day ------

    I once dated a twin.

My friend asked me how I told them apart.

I said Jenny had a beauty mark on her right cheek.

    And Jamie had a beard.

  12. Watched a lousy MiSTer video where they use that RGB split and fake chromatic aberration shit. And they overused the "H" emphasis like as in out becoming out-tuhhhH.

  14. Proof of space is dumb, till I got another skid of 18TB (actually 16TB with industry slack) drives on the cheap. Each with ~1,000 hours. That's like a month's usage. And due to get 4 more loads in June! Fuck'n L O V E it when crypto goes downnhill!

    1. john_q_atari

I don't understand, can you elaborate?

    2. john_q_atari

I found this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_of_space but where do you find your cheap drives?

People getting out of crypto as its landscape changes.

I bought one on fleabay, and I conducted data recovery and found it was full of Chive plots. I asked the guy if he had any more and he had 6. So I bought them.

Another nut burned down his basement and I purchased all the surviving hardware hardware.

  15. found a new unopened mad catz 64 controller at a thrift store today, bought out of novelty, probably going to stay new and unused

  16. played a bit of Tiger Heli

    final score:

  17. Someone is selling a Dig Dug prototype. Based on the label, using Atari's dating system, this would be from May 23, 1983. Sadly, I can't afford to drop $1000 on a video game.

I don't like talking about my years

spent working as an usher in a movie theater.

I was in a dark place at the time.

  19. Part of me understands why, and part of me gets annoyed by the fact how companies can have very helping and forgiving support as long as you remain a customer, but once you tell them you're about to leave and need help to finish your business, they became very strict and distancing themselves from assisting you.

  20. Unlocking the Namco N163 sound chip:

Too bad that Bandai Namco is never going to make a VST instrument iteration of their WSG chip.

  21. Never buy a house with a pool, unless you have the money to pay someone to take care of it for you.

    1. BydoEmpire

Getting a Floatron and pool vaccum/suction thing cut down our maintenance significantly.  It's actually very little work for us now, although of course YMMV. It is more expensive than you might expect though.

  22. Just spent a lot of time researching why my compiler was giving an error saying that my declaration had too many initializers only to eventually figure out that it was because my declaration had too many initializers.

  23. ------ Joke of the Day ------

    It takes me 10 minutes

    to walk to the bar,

but an hour to walk home.

    The difference is staggering.
