My First Atari

This is my old 800XL that I've had since 1984. It has a RAMBO XL 256k extended RAM upgrade, and both 1050 disk drives has ICD US DOUBLER (true double density and ultraspeed capability) enhancements.

The "enclosure" that it sits in was made by my father and I in his basement woodshop in Glenside, PA in about 1988 or 1989... This was an effort to "clean up" my computer area and make more room for his PC/AT stuff. It's about 100 times overkill, from a strength/durability standpoint. Its put together with "dado" and "dovetail" joints, and assembled with glue, as well as hidden countersunk wood screws.. You could easily use this thing as an axle stand, for servicing your car. My dad has never done anything "half-ass" in his life, and I like to think hes still proud of this one..

Nice set up Metal Guy. Still, your XE inside a 1200XL case sounds like the best 8 bit set up you could possibly have. Thanks for posting your first 8 bit and your dad's awesome work.

Your Dad did an awesome job! Great detail in your description.

Now I miss my first Atari computer, the 800XL. :D
