I just got 20,000 points on Pac-Man for Intellivision, but God forbid I be able to take a picture of it.

Thankfully I left the INTV on. It took at least a half-hour trying to reconnect my phone to the computer with Bluetooth since the new modem came. I snapped this photo.

Working on a new Commodore Pet RPG: Haven.
It borrows a bit from Fallout new vegas but is mostly self contained.
      1. carlsson

That one also has a splat file, so it is unloadable. I'm not sure how you generate your D64 files, but so far you have only 60% success rate at producing loadable files.
      2. IntelliMission

I managed to run the "game" here using the "Mount" button and enabling "Auto-run": https://www.masswerk.at/pet/
The "game" consists in a text message describing a room, followed by a short message describing the appearance of a "burgler" not matter what you type. The third message, "REDO FROM START", appears over and over again, and again no matter the command you enter:

I'm not a fan of RPG games, but calling this an RPG is a bit of an overstretch.
      3. carlsson

Hm, so that emulator ignores the block structure of a disk image, and loads whatever it can find on the blocks whether or not the file is properly closed?
      4. Frozone212

i created an empty disk and saved it as haven,8,1
what the hell is going on?
      5. Frozone212

Intellimission, I think you loaded it wrong
      6. Frozone212

I don't save from tape. I always save to disk
      7. carlsson

If I recall correctly the secondary argument makes no difference when you SAVE a file. It will always save from the beginning of BASIC memory. On the PET the secondary argument also is not used for LOAD because it doesn't have any ability to relocate programs and always loads them back to the original address.
But still, the D64 image you uploaded displays a *PRG file both in D64 Editor and VICE. However the online PET emulator above seems to open it regardless, and something loaded. It made me curious if there are multiple versions of the D64 format.

Why must drive belts return to oil!? WHY!!!
      1. Stephen

Terrible right?  Just tonight I installed new belts on my 21 year old Sony 400 CD changer.  Fortunately, they had not turned to gel yet, they just lost their stretch.
      2. DoctorSpuds

For me, the belts go out in style, explosively, coating everything, and eventually myself.

TIL that i hate Aim assist in Console games. Seriously, try playing Big red one on ps2 without dying, i'll wait.
The stupid Aim assist ruins the entire damn game. I'm on Farewell to friends and on top of the audio cutting out (Crappy RCA cables), not being able to see clearly (crappy cables again) and getting shot (Bad framerate coupled with crap aim assist)
      I'm at my wits end.
The Framerate is decent but aiming is just..ugh. Why are you slowing down my aim? I'm getting ventilated. Here's hoping somebody fixes the ps2 version down the road.

Someone had an amazing find in the UK. An unused Atari STE Discovery Pack in his grandparents' attic. It was still in giftwrap. He or his parents had no idea why it was never gifted. I want, but wife would slaughter me like a pig.

Wireless printers:  A great idea in theory.  In practice they don't work half the time and i hate them with a passion.
      1. Show previous replies  2 more
      2. BydoEmpire

There are very few things I think are actually better wireless.  Convenient in some ways, but usually I'd rather have something fast and reliable than convenient "most of the time" but then have to do all the headaches and maintenance that pops up at the worst time.  Of course there are some exceptions, like everything in life.
      3. Cobra Kai

You got that right. My wireless printer worked a few times at first but after updates came Im just better off using direct wire. They love to use updates to screw up 3rd party ink cartridges too. Next printer I get I'm never accepting another firmware update.
      4. thanatos

Printers have always been the bane of IT.  Adding wireless sure doesn't help.
Maybe the HP Laserjet 4 could be an exception.  Those things worked forever.  Was still using one at my previous job in 2011, the thing was over 15 years old.
      5. carlsson

I installed my Samsung laser printer through wireless at first, but it was buggy so I had to plug in a network cable. There was a firmware update that supposedly would fix the wireless, but I have never unplugged the network cable.
For some reason, I find that wi-fi works well for Chromecast, which should shuffle as much data over high speed as the printer does. Of course for smartphones there is no alternative, and usually it works for laptops with medium data volumes.
      6. Keatah

Wireless printers are too hard to set-up. And full of shit.
My first printer in the early 80's, was an Epson MX-80. And it took me, a shitfaced kid, something like 15-minutes to unpack it and make my first BASIC program listing. It was easy because I didn't have to know anything about networks or routers or passwords and security.
      7. digdugnate

This made me twitch from my Service Desk and Local Support days.  I hatehatehate wireless printers, lol.
We had issues with them being 'loud' and taking over our APs, not to mention the tons of helpless user calls about them.  Wired is the. way. to. go.
      8. x=usr(1536)

@Keatah: FX-80 4 lyf, yo.  I loved that thing.  Wish I still had it today.
      9. x=usr(1536)

At work, we can't use WiFi on the workstations or printers for compliance reasons.  We have it, but it's mainly there as a convenience for phones and  tablets that aren't touching things that might break compliance.
We're a company of four people.  That makes it a lot easier to enforce without pissing and moaning.
      10. thanatos

Hah, I wasn't even thinking of the old line feed printers!  I had an FX-85 for my CoCo, that worked pretty well.  There was a huge difference in dealing with direct connected parallel port printers and shared network printers, even with the same model.
      11. thanatos

Wireless in the office is awful in general until money is willing to be spent.  The CEO at our company would constantly complain about the wifi.  "When can you fix the wifi?"  "When you let us buy the real business class access points and controllers you keep rejecting."
Can't expect cheap Linksys access points to switch over when you walk to the other side of the building.  But some people assume it's so easy at their house that it should just work.
