RIP Dickey Betts. Incredible song writer, great guitarist and a HUGE influence. The Allman Brothers Band is my all-time favorite band. Rest in peace to one of the last Brothers (Jaimoe is the only original member left).

Great guitarist from a great band.  He outlived Duane by a few decades at least.  What is your favorite song of theirs?

Unpopular and Controversial Opinions, Volume 22:
-'80s British Stop-motion cartoons > most American cartoons from that decade.
-Frank Zappa's music has aged gracefully.
-On the other hand, Green Day still sucks.
-While I abhor their employee treatment, Konami is trying to amend their credibility. Credibility that was ruined when Kojima was company Vice President.
-Grandia II = What Final Fantasy VII should have been.
-Van Beuren's Tom & Jerry > MGM's Tom & Jerry. (Fun fact: Tom in the MGM cartoons was originally called Jasper and Jerry was called Jinx.)
-Metal Gear Solid 2 is like the PS1 Masterpiece that preceded it but bad.
-Speaking of Grandia, I still recommend Monochrome Mobius, Child of Light, and Terra Memoria.
-I'm glad that John K Bacchus is still working on Mega Man X: Corrupted.
-Of all the games released under the PS2 Sega Ages 2500 line, Space Harrier was the best one.

I'm not sure "Frank Zappa's music has aged gracefully" is an unpopular opinion. If you're a Zappa fan, it's timeless. If you don't like it or don't get it, you probably felt that way from the start. Incidentally, I just watched my Zappa Plays Zappa DVD for the first time in quite a while. Incredible stuff.

Hot take: upscaling 3D PS1/Saturn/N64 games to high resolutions on emulators does not look better, and actually leads to artistic inconsistency.

The low resolution of the games helped hide some of the shortcomings, such as low poly models and low detail textures. Upscaling these games to HD only accentuates these problems, and makes the games look artistically incoherent. On one hand, you have a super high resolution game. On the other hand, the textures are so low resolution that you can count the pixels. It doesn't look natural at all.

Edit: This also doesn't include other stuff such as lighting and basic environment detail. Which can also look very odd and baren at high resolutions.

You also have the mismatch between 2D elements and the ultra-crispy geometry. It looks awful.
      3. RetroSonicHero

Exactly that, too. Hud elements were often low res, which looks odd when the rest is upscaled.

always felt this way. curiously, in the manual for Motor Toon Grand Prix, it said the best way to play the game was S-video cable on as big of a screen as possible
      5. RetroSonicHero

@dudeguy Fascinating! I don't ever recall a game manual recommending a specific type of video cable. Apart from explaining how to plug in/use the console, of course.
      6. dudeguy

@RetroSonicHero Yeah, I peruse manuals once in a great while. lots of great info to be learned. it's sad that games have mostly done away with them

I was up late but I managed to come up with a formula for determining how much I need to sell a game for on eBay to walk away, breaking even, adjusted for inflation. I kept track of a lot of the games prices of what I originally paid for. Many of them I will have to just ballpark it. I'll come out either ahead or break even on a good chunk of my games, and lose my shirt on a handful of them. it's sad but unfortunately, life happens and bills need to get paid. I haven't touched a video game in months, it's just money sitting around collecting dust at this point. gonna take a long time to go through all of it

    • I had also heard that someone had herd someone say that they did preliminary testing which doesn't mean testing and passing which is what I heard had been discussed before and that the paperwork will be submitted once their feelings are done being hurt when Intellivision is no longer ridiculed.   This reminds me that now that I'm on reddit I'm going to have to block redditshreddit now. Thanks for the reminder.
    • I haven't found the secret level yet
    • That's Nationals.     I suck at Nationals I wish I bowled it 25 years ago when I was good.    But what gets me most of all are the approach's in the stadium, they're too slick for me and I don't slide.    During the pandemic to make up for the first two months that were postponed they had singles and doubles in the public center, and those approach's are wood to go with synthetic lanes which is the best combination anybody can hope for in any tournament.    It was also the best six game block I ever shot at Nationals for singles and doubles that day because I wasn't sliding all over the place.   I go mostly just to see my guys who I met in 2015 on the subs list, and I've been bowling with them ever since.    Right now I would say I'm better at Intellivision bowling than real bowling.   LOL
    • If you call them do you think you can extend the warranty? And if you can, do you have to pay the other 49 years first? 🤔   Asteroids is one my favourite VCS games, I think the clean up the mess on the screen gameplay taps into my OCD. 🤣 Very satisfying.    Skiing is underrated, I like it, a chilled game. I have a PAL version ( coincidentally with an NTSC replacement on the way 🤷🏻🤣). Just loose carts.
    • It looks like getting this to work on Linux is a mystery.  I've tried following the instructions, for my Ubuntu box, and no joy.  😞
    • Actually, that might not be the case......   From Uwe Seimet:  https://www.hddriver.net/en/features.html  Under the section "not officially supported hardware".   BlueSCSI 1.1-20220917, but not 1.1-20221203. Tested with the desktop version at the internal SCSI port of a MegaSTE and TT. With a ribbon cable at the external port there were issues, though.   So given this, I would probably try to test it on a real SCSI drive if you have one.  Just to make sure that it isn't a similar issue given the use of the external port.
    • It appears to be an issue with my ZuluSCSI device looks like.  I was able to boot via my SCSI2SD adapter once I set it to >1200 as you suggested.   The only issue I need to chase now is it is not loading up my AUTOEXEC file that is on my SCS1.  Not sure why..
    • If that is the case, it is proper bunged.  Blank ink gets everywhere and is impossible to clean out.
    • You're very welcome Kon. A pleasure having you on AtariAge.com as a new member and sharing your video as your first post here on the Neo-Geo thread. Were looking forward on seeing more from you and enjoying yourself around the forums brother man. Enjoy your stay and hope AtariAge will be your second home.    Anthony..
    • Oh wow! That's great that you own a NGPC and you purchase a unit from one of our fellow members. How many games you have for it so far bro? As for the cable arriving, that's great to know. Now we really would like to see how that will be done by you Dopy. This will be exciting to see once its complete.    Anthony..
