  2. I just bought some XE stuff from him a couple of months ago. I knew he was sick, but I did not know how bad it was. He was trying to sell as much as could before he died for his wife. Not sure if it was more for the monetary aspect or so she would not have to deal with his collection. He was a really nice guy and went above and beyond in our transaction.

  6. Yeah, looks like Atari's latest strategy is to try and supplant negative feedback and legitimate questions they can't or don't want to answer with propaganda posts from their staff. I'm really beginning to think there's about 6-10 sad impressionable souls who have backed this thing and really believe all is good at this point. There are a number of largely silent reasonable people who feel trapped and full of regret because they already paid their money, but they're hoping for a decent resolution. There's another group who committed their money and are getting increasingly impatient and angry. And then there's the third to half of their backers that are fake pre-orders from Atari themselves via staff, their marketing outfit, click farms, friends, family and other interested parties. Some of that group are doing their best to water down genuine feedback at this point to maintain appearances. What they can't do is fill the increasing void of nothingness they are continuing to create.

  9. I'm not sure if the way I commented was taken the wrong way, I hope it wasn't; as I think we all use our computers for different things, and want different things from them including looks. My comment was only aimed at the Doc, as a suggestion following his own path. I've 6x 1050's two have been butchered as spares due to some 'other' in-experienced with a soldering iron, causing so many tracks to lift as not, also the mechanics are faulty, already used the stepper motor as a replacement in another Mech. One of these spare case's will be the home for my XLD. that's not to say that I may change the 2nd tier to something other than MIDI. purely as I built that inside my XEL (being the taller 80mm case.) however I like the idea of re-purposing something that will become redundant. I also like the idea of doing something similar but using the XEGS style case, will I? Who knows could I, maybe and likely using the same or at least very similar circuits to either the XEL or XLD (and yes I'm aware there much more going on in the later..) the XEGS 'cart por't also poses an issue with lay out, but nicely the back panel can be cut about and opened up to all manor of interfaces That maybe my choice for the future, my main interest is actually building these computers, repairing them, making addon's of my own etc. etc. thats almost more than playing games ( Although I do ) I'm grateful that the boards have been released, and hopefully be on there way latest Monday. Do I like everything the way Michael has done things? No not all , the PSU being a case in point for me. but hey it's been good enough for Atari over many years, and it is very much better than any of the original Atari designs. Remember Michael has his own vision and agenda which I'm sure he is most pleased with producing the XLD Hats off to him for seeing it through and allowing us all to be able to share in his personal vision.

  13. So I've been quietly working on this and it's now complete. All that remains is someplay testing to iron out a few gameplay issues to smooth out the difficulty curve and a couple of tweaks to crush a bit of overcycle in a couple of places. I'll upload a test rom in a day or two for folks to try..

  19. You know what, let's stop this BS before yet another topic gets locked down. Yes everyone has their expert opinion and loves to get on the soap box and preach it to the world, but there is a point where it simply gets ridiculous and pointless. I think we are rapidly approaching that point, if not already passed it. So please before posting anymore in this thread, ask yourself how does what you are about to say really benefit anyone else.

  20. New version. I've updated some of the sprite animation frames from @NostAlgae37. We're really quite fine-tuning now, but I do plan to have some more animations down the track. I've put in a "turn around" wait so that when the player turns around it looks better. I've also re-done the box because nobody had any love for the previous version. I need to decouple the game 'frame rate' from the movement/animation frame-rate. Almost time to think about getting that music updated and some sound effects in. sokoboo_20190823.bin

  23. We went for an arcade style game since we find that one of the strengths of the Lynx are quick, mobile games without much overhead and something that you could pass around to friends&family to compete This is also why we added a rather relaxed difficulty mode (1) and a much faster mode (3) for shorter games. And what good would this be without a highscore chart? After GameOver a CODE is generated that you can send to us along with your score and difficulty level 1-3 to verify your claims http://enthusi.de/scores.html Below is a crop of a code display (so don't hand that one in

Funny thing is I don't ask where the games are but was telling others about the games they did have (I wasn't saying they had none either) Also at the beginning of the taco train I was trying to be nice towards hardcore believers (alexkeaton) I think. I think Karl is projecting. He wants them #babybeefs

  31. Thank you for covering all the key points on this . When I first started development on the TK-II aspect, I was planning on using a PIC16F88 which I believe is programmable by the TL866II programmer, but as the code quickly grew I passed the available memory that chip had to offer and was forced to use its bigger cousin the PIC16F1847 instead. Part of the problem was my choice of code development suites. I used something called FlowCode which is a very high level code development tool that makes writing code extremely simple, but comes at the cost of efficiency (it writes very bloated code). As for the choice of the PIC12F1571 used for the VGATE chip, the application had a very high speed requirement that this particular chip just squeaked by to meet, and that was even factoring in that I wrote the code virtually at the machine level. Then along came MIDI, and it's brother the PIC12F1572 was chosen since it contained a UART which was needed, while still keeping the package size to a minimum. I have since gone to the 12F1572 for the VGATE chip in the 1088XLD as well, just to keep things simpler in the BOM, and it's actually sometimes cheaper than the 12F1571. The funny part is that all of the chips I selected have been in production for at least six or more years, and due to their popularity are produced in numbers that allow the chips to be bought for less than $2 a piece (often times closer to a buck and a half). The PICkit2 which is the older Microchip programmer (PICkit3 being the current one), didn't support the 12F1571 or 12F1572 out of the gate, although it did support the 16F1847. However unlike the popular TL866II programmer, 3rd parties stepped up and modified the original device file, adding in the 12F157x series, as well as quite a few other newer chips. I also have the newer TL866II Plus model of that programmer and was greatly disappointed to not only see that the parent company hasn't updated their PIC device files for like forever, but that no 3rd party has come along to do so either. So this brings us to why the JOY2PIC was developed. And to tell you the truth even though I have both a PICkit2 and a PICkit3 I prefer to use the JOY2PIC method of flashing the chips used in my products. It's just plain easier. This means I only use the PICkit programmers for firmware development.

This one Features: * Seimitsu Joystick, (black ball-top and shaft) capable of being configured as an 8-way, 4-way, or 2-way horizontal or vertical joystick by adjusting the internal sub-gate. Currently it's set up as a 8-way like the ColecoVision hand controller, allowing for maximum game compatibility. * Sanwa OBSFS "Silent" pushbuttons, gray to match the gray buttons on the ColecoVision hand controllers. * Eladdin CV Easy I/O Board w/ Keypad. * Controller base left factory black to match the ColecoVision console/controllers. * Blacked out CPO. * Custom keypad overlay inspired by the ColecoVision hand controller's keypad. * The controller's original "Start" button dyed silver, and wired as a 2nd * key, to restart game after game ends. * Custom front label inspired by the ColecoVision console's front face label. I had a thought...if I could get the artwork/logo files from CollectorVision for the Phoenix, I could make a similar, Phoenix edition!

I don't really like those nylon ones all that much, since they feel a bit flimsy especially when tightening the nut. Nice pics Stephen ? . 45. Here's some details on how I got my board properly fitted in the 1050 case, as well as some fine details on issues I had with the CF card reader: I had to use a counter-sink bit to make this screw sit perfectly flat with the PCB, else the lower CF card would not insert. Check that clearance Clarence: Very important to screw the SIO plugs to the PCB. I unfortunately had to use a #39 drillbit in order to get 6-32 screws through the PCB. When it came time to put the 6-32 studs into the 1050 case, I decided to do it "proper" style (as a metal worker at heart). Using a #28 drill, I then ran a 6-32 tap in the case. I used a paper washer in between the case and nut which was adjusted for proper height. Some hand files enlarged the drive select square for the 13-pin DIN for video. Some final fitment details: As always, full build thread is at https://www.flickr.com/photos/75619516@N06/albums/72157705660251381. If you use any images, please credit me for the build.
