  2. I don't know why I hold out hope you're not just amusing yourself by trolling this thread, but it's hard to see it otherwise with this kind of slippery reply. This is not a hard concept to follow. You asked why this "special treatment" for Atari. The answer is because their situation is unique: first, in that they alone took the money in advance as @MrBeefy said, so people (particularly those who put the money in) are obviously more anxious to see that faith validated. It's not at your discretion to dismiss something that obviously is a blatant difference. (If you're going to troll, at least try to be a bit more clever in deflecting the point. That last reply above was on the intellectual level of "I know you are, but what am I?") Second, it's never been necessary to beg Microsoft and Sony for tangible demos. They do it voluntarily, publicly, and well in advance of the product launch. Have you never seen an E3 ever? Please don't tell me you need the difference between the Microsoft's, Sony's, and Atari's E3 presences explained to you. So, apples and oranges, really. Atari sucks at this. Plain and simple. If Microsoft or Sony failed at the PR so spectacularly, they'd probably be taken to task, too. They certainly have been mocked for less egregious missteps. Even if you're not trolling, you're no better than anyone else in this thread when it comes to speculation. You're just tending to the most optimistic explanation in absence of information. I mean I could speculate that there is no AtariOS (e.g. Wyatt was just talking about plans or a work in progress, not something he'd actually finished), no games, no Store, and they haven't even figured out how to make Atari Vault work on the thing... if there is even a thing that runs software yet. It's no less defendable a position than any other speculation here. Before a launch, the core issue at hand is not what they have or haven't done, but their track record of credibility. It's par for the course for crowdsourced efforts to build credibility and excitement as a way of making the thing "go viral". You want those who didn't get in on the Founder package jealous of those that did, rather than thanking their lucky stars that they didn't pay a cent for the entertainment of watching what could easily be a dumpster Fyre (as @Zor rightly alluded to). That's not how you build a brand. Atari is failing at this. Here's a little experiment for you: tune in tomorrow to see the Amico response. They're either going to reveal a lot on Dec 3 as they promised, or they're going to fail to live up to their promises, and they'll be taken to task for it too. Let's watch and see how that plays out. (I'm not Amico's audience BTW, not interested in getting the thing, but even I can see they at least have some expertise on board that Atari does not when it comes to this.) BTW, to your credit, you're doing one hell of a job in helping some posters here realize their hope of seeing 1000 pages before end of year. So... on their behalf, thanks for that?

  3. What was the last game system that Sony or Microsoft crowdfunded?

  4. A PC with no storage and no OS with as much upgradabilty as a laptop (not much), built by an unknown entity somewhere in China with warranty support of unknown quality, without speaking of availability of proper windows drivers for the "sandbox" mode. Delivered by a dubious company who started the project with a guy who couldn't deliver a smartwatch, then switching to a guy branded as the X-Box Jesus, who either was let go for not delivering either or left because he wasn't paid (or a mix of both). Oh, and I should have made a screenshot but the Atari VCS website was showing "available now" before switching back to "pre-order" a few days ago. This really looks like the Fyre Festival of un-consoles..

  6. I mean this in all sincerity, with no sarcasm or snark: people often make the mistake of thinking critics are united and of one mind. We're all individuals with our individual concerns and objections. What one perceives as "moving the goal posts" by critics is often just one set of critics with one set of objections dying down, and another becoming louder. Individually, no one's criticism changed. No goal posts are moved. There are just a bunch of different people with different goal posts. Personally my criticism has always been that Atari is showing great incompetence at this and the product sounds underwhelming even if/when they eventually get it done. I expect they will get it done but it will be half-assed because it seems like it's stretched them to the limit just to get this far. And yeah maybe I couldn't do better if I did it myself but I'm competent enough to know I shouldn't claim otherwise... and I definitely wouldn't have take people's money up front on promises I wouldn't be qualified to keep at the time I made them. But I do believe they're trying. I personally think it's been more a "fake it 'til you make it" scenario than a deliberate grift. But if everyone who put money on this is happy in the end then from your perspective, sure, mission accomplished. From my perspective they'll still appear to have been incompetent. Both can be true at the same time.

  8. I can't believe I'm responding to this kind of idiocy, but because those are multi-billion dollar companies with proven track records that aren't constantly beating the preorder drum for phantom product. You're right, though. They don't have to do a damn thing, and their company can continue to be an unfunny punch line trading at .31 Euro in the penny stock market.

  9. New user out of the blue and pretty much nails it. Get this man a taco. Certainly worlds more cogent than Kurt's "it's a web server, vpn server, ad-blocker, plex server, network storage living room gaming PC with access to the Atari store that also makes mean julienne fries" sales pitch.

  10. An Xbox (or Playstation, or Nintendo) knows exactly what it wants to be, which is why it excels at it. Atari hasn't done much to convey why this exists, so it's no wonder you're not sure sure what you're going to do with it.

  11. The VCS doesn't affect my life because I was unaware of it when they crowdfunded and I never put any money into it. My concern arises from people who gave them money who may never see a product from their hard-earned dollars. $300 may not seem like a lot to some people, but to others, it may be a week's salary. I don't like scammers and thieves.

  12. For the 40th anniversary. here is an early promotional video, which was on a tape dated 12/31/1978. I suspect (but do not know for sure) that it was made for 1979 January CES. This was copied from a 3/4" tape just in the last week.

  18. I don't know about you, but "Atari" must of stole got that one illustration idea from the Zelda franchise. You know, the Triforce. I've saved the work for them if they ever want to make a ripoff of Zelda for their shovelware un-console with their own Triforce names:

  19. I heard a lot of bad stuff and negative talk about the Nintendo NX before they showed anything. Also a company that has been making hardware. You and others are getting all wound up over ONE thread, on ONE forum, that is having some FUN. This forum isn't causing the Atari 2019-2020 game crash nor is it hurting pre-orders. The majority of people don't care about the VCS, don't know about it, and won't because it won't make it to shelves (online Wal-Mart and Gamestop does not mean they will be in brick amd mortar stores). In case you didn't know there is another thread in the modern gaming section of this forum. It isn't a taco thread. I would encourage you to go there and have some fun there talking about what you would like to do with your VCS when you do get one.

  20. This is why they need to do a video of the thing booting up. I really don't understand why they haven't at this point. If they habe the OS show it. That has nothing to do with partners. You are just guessing as to how they are probably doing it, others are guessing they have nothing, I'm in the middle thinking they have something but its underwhelming. They are either dumb in not showing what they have, or are trying to hide that it isn't what they hyped it to be. That's why I'm in the middle. The 'games' announcement is an indicator of that. (Nothing against AntStream, it seems neat but is not a big games announcement).

  26. Number of platforms I can think of that can play Rocket League, Overwatch, Borderlands, and Atari Vault (or Flashback): 4+, including Xbone, PS4, Windows, Switch ... Number of functions shown on unreleased "Atari VCS" that cannot be done elsewhere, better, right now: zero I guess AntStream will have the 80-in-one Atari Anthology, rentable for $10/month ... But it's your money. We won't think any less of you.

  27. In related news, IntelliVision unveiled much more about their console today, including announcing a bunch of partners working on content for the machine, new games, some details on one of the pack-in games (reimagining of Skiing), controller redesign and more. https://www.intellivisionamico.com/press-releases/press-release-december-3rd-2019 They also posted this video. As a reminder to the VCS Faithful, Atari could easily do something like this, they don't have to beg for PowerA's permission or anyone else, but they haven't. INTV doesn't have crowdfunding/backers to please, but they've got the sense as to how to market their device. If Atari had the competence to be showing things like this, they'd save themselves a lot of mockery and questions. Instead, it's easier for them to delete posts on Reddit:

  28. How is it "harassment" or a "personal attack" to draw a circle around a public comment that you voluntarily wrote and posted under your own name? Whether or not you were previously talking to the person who did it is irrelevant; if you don't want anyone commenting on whatever it is that you have to say, don't say it in a public forum. I'd also love to know how we're "moving the goal posts." As far as I can tell, we still have the same position that we've held for months. I didn't think I'd have to post this again so soon, but here you go, from way back in mid-June:

  29. Hello everyone. Some of you may have known me as Retrospect, well it's still me but I lost all my login details after one of the computers I was using crashed and died. So I decided on a namechange. I chose "Firefly" as a name due to the old Firefly games for the TI99 ... so I've named my account after that. I have a few games in mind to release during Xmas 2019 and into 2020 ... one of them I've started with is (yet another) plane bombing game, 'cept this is one with a few differences. Midnight Blitz will have the following; twinkling stars (similar to Parsec) tanks that fire at you, that can be destroyed by your bombs (50 percent done) bombs with decent explosion animations (as in the video) limited moves up and down to avoid the tank fire (to do) various amounts of levels with higher buildings (to do) innocent people who run across the screen, not to be hit! (to do) music and sound effects (to do) I plan on doing a game for Xmas, it might be "Return to Monsterland" but to be honest the older i'm getting the less concentration and focus I can apply to coding in general (anyone else getting that??) midnight blitz.mp4

  32. I have no doubt, but that's not what I said, its not uncommon for a computer to "support" a video format, then chokes running 480p or 720p youtube. So for local sources it might be fine, streaming media is much heavier compressed, and that's kind of one of the selling points, it streams netflix for mom, it does 4K HDR will it do both ... lol sure it will, gfl with that Reading is not your strong suit, I personally think it will be having issues with dreamcast emulation, but again what I said is XBOX 360 QUALITY (not emulation), hell even a 2006 era 360 can run boarderlands 2 faster than 12FPS, sure its using a lot more power to do so, but so far that's not much of a gee wowzers for the ataribawx Not really when one can slap together a AMD Athlon 300GE or even a 240 for 50 ish bucks on a mini itx board and have 2x the performance @ around 200$

  36. I can't see any realistic scenario where it goes into the public domain. Assets never die. They just change hands. Atari was dead as dead can be back in the 90s until Hasbro bought it off some holding company for pittance. If someone started a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to buy Atari and give it to the community, it would fail, because the more interest there was in the crowdfunding campaign, the more it would boost Atari's value. You'd be chasing your own tail. Who could buy Atari and turn it into a big thing? Not AtGames. They milk the IP they touch, not nurture it. Honestly, the best idea I've heard came from my teenage kid: that Louis Vuitton or someone like it should buy it and just turn it into a clothing brand and then they'd just dump the software into public domain (since they don't care about the software) as part of a viral marketing strategy.
