  3. 1st B&B Entry - It's a 'fun' game, but kind of annoying how quick you can lose multiple lives. Like once you lose one, be ready to lose 4 more right quick..... ? Case and point, I think I had 3 or 4 lives left at the bottom of Building 5. Couldn't even get up one level. Got smashed by everything.... ? Building 4, Level 0, 11,450 points...

These were all played on actual carts. Rikki & Vikki took over once it arrived. What a great game, and a fantastic addition to the 7800 library. If you've been on the fence about buying one, they are (finally) running out. I got #513 of 550. The team at PenguinNet says there are no plans to make more. Of course in this case, you can purchase the game for Windows too.

  10. I have published one more HardCores's tunes at baha.webowna.cz. Dziennik Telewizyjny. It is a rather soothing cover of the Polish TV news opening from 1970s and 1980s, originally composed by Wojciech Kilar. Petr was clearly the better half of the BAHA Software, whatever we was doing for Atari was never without passion and, more importantly, diligence. As of now, BAHA Software ceases operations. I will keep running the web that will serve as an archive. With my future Atari efforts, if there will be any, I will go back to the BAKTRA Software brand.

  14. Thanks for the feedback! I do plan to add more challenging elements to the game, including finding that elusive ammo that is missing at the beginning (a runner/shooter style for some levels/bosses maybe). I love the sliding idea too. I'll see how I go on time with making updates, the 'final' version is likely to be a physical release, but we'll see on that. I've been working with an artist on changes already, the new title screen has had a do-over and looks amazing, so I'm quite excited to do more on this game.

Some of them are worth to be compiled to try to see if the gameplay is improved by speed! Of course, it's not enough to just compile them, since you need to adjust the speed for input, etc. The XB256 by Harry Wilhelm is very useful in this case. I attachment ten or so games to try. 16. I think it is exactly that. ANTIC generates a color signal that is basically a pulse width modulated square wave instead of a phase shifted sine wave. But after it goes through a couple of analog filters, especially in the television itself, old TVs/monitors see no difference. Modern LCDs don't have those analog filters. They "sample" as quickly as possible and do the rest in the digital domain. Crosstalk is more prominent there, because the square waves are not "rounded" like in an analog circuit. Even if you filter the color carrier out of the luma signal (which is what they do), with our Atari signal you are left with all the harmonics of a square wave that shouldn't be there.

  17. The whole llamasoft debacle is just another of the many reasons the new faux-tari sucks. They basically sued llamasoft for TxK being too much like Tempest 2000 (the dumb shits must not have realized Jeff wrote T2K and owned the rights). They prevented TxK from launching on the PS4. They prevented a VR mode of the game (which was completed BTW) from being released. Then, after allowing Tempest 4000 on the PS4 (albeit watered down), they showed FAKE screenshots of it running on the non-existent "unconsole" of theirs. Llamasoft were made aware of this, and said that in no way were they contacted, and also, a Linux version did not exist. Great way to do business folks. Everything they do is shady, everything they say is a lie.

  18. Thanks again for the fantastic feedback guys. Emulator build 231_1b Balance changes in full Slowed the patrol aliens down by around 20%, vertically and horizontally (the laser screen patrol aliens were already slower so they are not adjusted). Screen # 3 (Banyan Tree) : Removed a rocket that could result in a cheap death on first entering the screen. Screen # 4 (Broom Cupboard) : Reduced drones from 5 to 4, increased the spawn delay slightly Screen #11 (Momento Mori): Adjusted the design to make navigating the traps easier. Aliens patrol slower, further and the drop gaps are widened. Screen #13 (Central Cavern) : Reduced drones from 5 to 4, increased the spawn delay slightly Screen #14 (Dulce Periculem) : Laser trap timer extended by 1 second. Screen #17 (The Gubbins) : Adjusted turret slightly. Screen #20 (Mustang Sally) : 2 rockets removed, 1 rocket moved to a more fair placement. Drone aliens no longer spawn if you are within 20 pixels of the screen edge (prevents deaths where you could be killed by a spawning drone as you move to change screen). Turrets now wait longer before shooting their first shot, usually at least 2 seconds (except screen 5 - Cecco's Rise) as the turrent is in the middle of the screen so an adjustment shouldn't be needed) Remember the screens aren't linear, the screen# doesn't directly equate to the order you see them, it's just a reference number that you can pretty much ignore. Always better to refer to the screen name if you spot an issue. Thinking of adding a couple of training screens (How to pilot your Salamander 101) exo231_balanced1b.bas.a78

  20. Pretty sure Sony didn't realize how hard the PlayStation Classic was going to bomb when they manufactured it. I mean they should have after the zero effort they put into it. But, even still, I don't think they knew it was going to suffer the humiliation of having to receive price cuts before it even made it to the Christmas shopping season it was released for, and then relegated to Clearance bins shortly afterwards. The PlayStation Classic is now discounted after less than a month in stores Dec 28, 2018 (price slashed from $99 to $60 less than a month on shelves) https://www.businessinsider.com/playstation-classic-price-cut-month-2018-12 PlayStation Classic gets a deep price cut at Walmart Feb 12, 2019 (price slashed again from $60 down to $39.99 less than 2 months later) https://www.slashgear.com/playstation-classic-gets-a-deep-price-cut-at-walmart-12565419/ PlayStation Classic Price Drops To $25 Jul 6, 2019 (officially in clearance bins 6 months after release, compared to the NES Classic which would sell out immediately after arriving in stores for years) https://www.ibtimes.com/playstation-classic-price-drops-25-2805027

  21. Thanks for the feedback guys, really appreciate it. One of the biggest challenges with getting the balance right is that I play the game a lot when testing so it naturally becomes easier for me. The challenge feedback is really useful as I'm biased/ less prone to notice the difficulty. Ultimately I want a game that's a challenge, but not one that's frustrating to the point it's not fun. @TreborInteresting point about the PAL and NTSC differences. I develop pretty much exclusively in NTSC, the same for the 2600, so I don't think it's that. I think JS7800 runs as NTSC. @mksmith Thanks Matt, I looked into this and the collisions seem ok : Neither triggered a collision explosion. I'm going to look into it some more using my torture room screen and record some videos to check nothing in awry. Some additional balance changes I've made to Level 1 : Slowed the patrol aliens down by around 20%, vertically and horizontally (the laser screen patrol aliens were already slower so they are not adjusted). Screen #11 (Momento Mori): adjusted the design to make navigating the traps easier. Aliens patrol slower, further and the drop gaps are widened. Screen #14 (Dulce Periculem) : Laser trap timer extended by 1 second. Screen #20 (Mustang Sally) : 2 rockets removed, 1 rocket moved to a more fair placement. Drone aliens no longer spawn if you are within 20 pixel of the screen edge (prevents deaths where you could be killed by a spawning drone as you move to change screen). Turrets now wait longer before shooting their first shot, usually at least 2 seconds (except screen 5 - Cecco's Rise) as the turrent is in the middle of the screen so an adjustment shouldn't be needed) A new JS7800 / A7800 ROM will be posted shortly.

  24. Hello - nothing in 40 columns at this time. I have been identifying the changes needed to integrate 40 column mode into the same code base so that instead of 3 or 4 interpreters there will be one main interpreter plus the larger (i..e supercart style) option. I have identified key areas that require changes such as the status line output, scroll routine, and input routine. For the short term I need to slow down the feature creep and keep my enthusiasm for code changes in check Especially if I am going to push this to the native Z3 file support...

  26. GONE, THIS HAS BEEN PICKED UP. Free Local pickup for an enthusiast, and not someone who wants to flip and sell parts. If you only need a few parts, I wouldn't be mad if you got what you need, and sold the rest. I just don't want a deliberate flipper. I buy broken stuff, and I came across this Atari 400 in really bad shape. The top shell is busted, and the cartridge lid also has a broken tab. After installing the missing power LED, it works, and loads up the memo screen. Cartridge software works, controller port player one works (at least), audio works, video works fine. The keyboard, however, doesn't work. I'm not sure if it's an IC chip gone bad, or the flex membrane cable/connector. FREE PICKUP in Centerville, OH. I don't want to ship this thing because it's heavy, and I don't want to part it out. If I go to the hassle of a part out, I might as well make a buck and sell on ebay. Thanks.

  27. That's me in a nutshell. The game looks so great and the gameplay is enjoyable, just a bit too difficult, too much of a struggle to perform some functions 'just right'. Exactly. I definitely don't want easy. There is no real fun flying through a game that's easy peasy, but currently the pendulum is swung a bit too much the other way. This sounds fantastic! Looking forward to trying the new ROM.

  28. This comic strip of Garfield spooks me even to this day. It was done for 6 days as a Halloween special. It shares the inevitability of the process of time and grappling with loneliness. Two that I fear the most. https://www.mezzacotta.net/garfield/?comic=1250

  29. Thanks I learned a great piece of info about half way thru the contest that was a real game changer. It has to do with where the enemies respawn from. Mr Me alluded to it in his post to Gar0u. Once I realized this the game became much easier for me to get higher scores. Also having as many doorways open as possible helps too.... ?

  36. Finally got a chance to look at this again and I figured it out. The Mylar cable was bent at the end, probably to give a better fit in the connector. The traces ended up breaking right at the bend, and the edge connector plug was only making contact on one side of the traces, the side that came after the break. I solved the issue by swapping the outer two connections and flipping the connector over so that it was making contact on the other side of the cable, before the break. I also used a pencil eraser to gently clean the traces. It works very well now—happiness!

  40. One of my favorites. Played a marathon session last night. Fell quite short of my personal best (which is a hair over 3 million). The game always crashes after you beat 187 screens. After beating the 187th level, it just freezes at the Ready Chef 1 screen. To do all 187 screens takes about 5 hours (give or take 20-40 minutes). 2,872,200 pts. from last night's marathon session. This is screen 187. The "Get Ready Chef 1" screen it freezes at after completing the 187th stage.

  41. Wow, what an honor to see Baby Pac-Man at the top of last week's list! Seems like Wongojack really likes my pinball logic there. Actually, a baby always has two parents... in this case this would be Bob and me. And I admit that I still like coding very much, so this probably won't be the last retro game I've participated in... but at the moment I've got other things to do. Anyway, here are my times for this past week (September 7th through 13th) on classic systems... Atari 2600: Balloon trip - 3 min. Well, I promised you I wouldn't have much time for gaming this week and next week, but I did manage to sneak in one game of "Balloon trip", a homebrew game a bit similar to Flappy Bird or Joust, but pretty simple... you've got mines and the occasional balloon coming at you at increasing speeds, and you have to avoid the mines and catch the balloons. After a number of balloons you get bonus time where there's only balloons on screen before the game reverts to normal. And that's pretty much it... one game was enough to see it all.

  42. Ms. Galactopus-15,375 (Fixed rom). Not too bad for me-there's one baby that gets released and ducks off the left side of the screen in a way that seems impossible to hit, it got me three times this run.
