  1. Thanks for the information. As a result, both publishing parties have been contacted by AtariAge's lawyers. The goal is to have the Mouse's cheese taken away, and for Astro Blaster (a pinball game) to have its balls taken away. They'll then combine the two resources and produce and sell a game in the AtariAge store called "Cheese Balls", which will financially compensate all those who've suffered any mental anxiety as a result of the deception. All funds will afterwards be distributed over a 50 year period in increments of 25 cents per year, to be paid via Chuck E. Cheese arcade tokens; or those affected will optionally be able to receive one bag of cheese ball snacks per year for the remainder of their existence.

  5. I found this image that looks like a pixel accurate screenshot from Acorn Electron. There are only 4 colors in the entire image. But when I tried to import it into Magallan I could see that the import was broken in version 4.1.0, so I have fixed it and uploaded 4.1.1 to https://magellan.js99er.net So after fixing the bug the image can be imported, but it still uses 344 characters, which is quite a lot for a relatively simple image. With some careful hand coding of the characters I think that could be reduced a lot.

  10. Mouse Trap and Astro Blaster I thought at first when I downloaded my Homesoft Collection, that these were the original arcade versions, but they are not..... not even close. Mouse Trap is not the OG 1982 Exidy version and Astro Blaster is not the OG 1981 Sega/Gremlin version. Can't someone legally do something about it??? I think they should.

  11. More like a masochistic bastard, I get pictures of his socks with holes in them, for old farts sake! He is breaking his back to support the classic gaming community, the volume is getting larger and it is hard to delegate some of this work. And never forget, there are outside influences that can not be controlled, like "Whoops, we printed the wrong 1000 labels." or whatever it may be, like shipping delays on boxes. I encourage anyone to spend a weekend and try to make 10 carts, from removing the label until putting it into a box. Admitting it, is a good first step. ?

  12. Chill dude. There are things I have literally waited for years on, but they eventually show up. I know in this day and age of instant gratification, that people no longer have patience. I still remember it taking months for Atari 8bit games to show up, and that was after the company had mailed them. Usually once they are in the mail it takes maybe a week. Al is doing his best to get them into people's hands. It isn't like he is holding them hostage. At least I don't think so. Maybe he is a sadistic bastard, I don't know him personally. ?

  15. Just when you thought your wallet was safe… here comes Taito to empty it anew. They announced the Egret II mini, a mini arcade machine that like the real Egret II includes a rotatable display! Taito arcade games of the mid to late 80s and early 90s are about my favorite arcade games of the era, so I would give my eye teeth for this. Look at the lineup that has been released so far: Space Invaders Lunar Rescue Qix Elevator Action Chack’n Pop Bubble Bobble Rastan Saga Rainbow Islands Extra New Zealand Story Don Doko Don Violence Fight Cadash Liquid Kids Metal Black Kaiser Knuckle and more Yeah, there is no chance I will pass this thing up. But wait! There’s more money they’re going to take! There are the obligatory extra pad and stick, yes, but there is also a paddle and trackball controller. That controller comes with an SD card with 10 more games. Strike Bowling Arkanoid Plump Pop Syvalion Cameltry Arkanoid Returns and four more How much will all this set you back? From The Verge: This is coming next March, so start saving your pennies now.

  16. Hey guys when does the next game start? I am hoping to crack the top 3 soon!? Actually, after coming in a VERY distant fourth my thoughts are on what great competitors and scores were consistently being put by Spartan,Parsley and Rickster. Scores that I know I will personally never reach,no matter how much I play! It's so much fun for me to compete against the best because it pushes me to get the best scores possible from myself, and play a bunch of great games I somehow forgot how much fun they are! As perhaps the oldest regular player in the group, thanks to everyone participating in helping me remain young at heart and in spirit. Hopefully see you all next season!!!??

  19. I'm working on them and I'm getting closer to shipping everything. I've learned a lot doing this round of games and certainly will never run pre-orders like this again. Nor will I release a large number of games simultaneously again, unless they are ready to ship right away (but even then, it's still too many games to do at once--smaller, more frequent releases are better). ..Al

  20. Or more to the point: Working with the programmer and a graphic artist to get a box, label, and manual designed, proofread and made print-ready (this can take months... so be prepared to wait). Dealing with printers (yes, plural) to get those items printed to a consistent and professional quality (this can also take months... patience is a virtue!) (It's also expensive.) Obtaining cartridge shells (either new or used). Be prepared to spend more money, and wait some more. If using used shells, prepping them by removing the old labels and cleaning them to look like new again, and discarding the dozens that people sold you that were unusable. Obtaining the circuit boards and other necessary components to build the games. (More money. More waiting.) By the way, you don't yet know it will only be 10 carts. So you'd better order whatever you think you *might* need. Soldering the components to one of the boards. Loading the game onto the circuit board (having acquired the necessary hardware/software to do so in the first place, of course). Testing the game on a variety of oddball console variations to make sure it works. Working with the programmer to fix the issues that have cropped up. More testing! Yelling at the printers to fix their stupid mistakes and reprint whatever they screwed up. Keeping all of AtariAge running while this is going on. Prepping the store entry for the game, including photos, screenshots, descriptions and videos. Keeping track of the orders that have come in (fortunately, we're only talking 10 carts here). Making sure you have everything needed for all 10 carts. Yelling at the printers some more (note: for the sake of brevity we'll limit this to only three times, but that's laughably optimistic). Answering emails, forum posts and PMs from the 10 people wondering where their games are. Soldering the rest of the components onto the circuit boards. Loading the game onto all of the circuit boards. Testing every single one of them. Fixing the ones that don't work. You're still keeping AtariAge running, right? Assembling the carts, applying the labels, folding the boxes, adding any extras such as flyers, buttons, stickers, etc. (I just made this one line because it can't be all that hard. ) Making sure you have enough shipping materials for all 10 orders. Packing all 10 orders, making sure you didn't miss anything, and getting everyone's address correct. Don't forget postage! Driving them to the post office and shipping them. What could be easier? It's only 10 carts.

  23. It's not really modulation, just resynchronization. Timer 1 resets both timers 1+2 on underflow if current serial out bit is a 1, timer 2 resets both timers 1+2 on underflow regardless of the serial output bit. This reset reloads the timers without sending a clock pulse to the audio circuits. You need the timer 1 to have a shorter period for it to be useful or else it just gets always preempted by timer 2 and never finishes. The extra timer reset causes a two cycle delay, which increases the period, except in 15/64KHz where it is 'absorbed' by that clock. The 15KHz clock has a period of 114 cycles and the 4-bit generator has a period of 15 cycles. 114 mod 15 = 9 and gcm(9, 15) = 3, so this is always going to skip two-thirds of the pattern bits. In a high-pass configuration, only the noise settings for channels 1+2 matter; the distortion settings for channel 3+4 are ignored by the high-pass circuit, which only uses the clocking pulses.

  24. Maybe the biggest update the Ultimate cart needs is the ability to update itself like AVGCart does.
    3 points
  25. Nope, to upgrade the Ultimate cart you only need: - an IT diploma (equal to rocket science) - downloading several Gigabytes to update a few Bytes - a PC with min. 64Bit OS, 64 Cores, 64GB RAM, 64Ghz, etc. so the end result can be used on an Atari 8bit computer with e.g. 64KB RAM and roughly 1.8Mhz single core Tried to update my Ultimate carts. once (for XEX loading) and failed, so I had to ask a friend (who has an IT diploma) to do it for me. He used dozens of curses when doing it and like me, he said: Never again! That's one of the reasons why I like the AVG cart. very much, it is so easy to update. And since the day I own the AVG carts, I have not used the Ultimate carts anymore. Anyone for a "benchmark" of how long it takes to update the Ultimate cart. on the PC (including software download and installation) vs. how long it takes to update the AVG cart. on the A8 (including software download and installation) ? But DMA must be set to on!

  26. So, I am going to tag in @phaeron here ... do you have a documentation on 2-tone mode and how it works? I understand part of it ... like the frequency in the first channel must be higher than in the second, and the second channel carries the frequency, modulated by the first. I have it kind of figured out with A distortion, but I am slogging my way through 4 distortion at 1.79 (with both 15 and 64khz) and it's slow going, mainly because of all the mod 3/5/15/31/non mod combinations. I want to understand how the modulation works. Example: I know the hi-pass filter uses an XOR gate on the sampled bits, or in the case of A distortion, the square pulses. How exactly are the squares and sampled bits handled in the 4 distortion ... specifically, for example, in those instances where you get the mod 15 frequencies starting at 11 decimal (11, 26, 41, etc.) and it makes the C distortion sound with fuzz ... or why the same setting in 15 khz makes stable tones with no mod 3's apparent. If I can better understand how it all works, it might make this all go a lot faster.

  27. Thanks for the kind words ... To be honest, I am a sound synthesist at heart. I always try to get my synthesizers and musical equipment to put out sounds they weren't designed to ... and my Atari 1200XL is no different, it's another musical instrument, with so much untapped potential. And to be honest, real credit goes to those like Raster, Analmux, and others not here anymore to share their wisdom. I just enjoy discovering new sounds.

  31. The dual cart is *very* nice. It contains graphically updated versions - not "final" though - of both games. DD received some additional updates after the release and Rampage was never finalized; however, still a great improvement over the original graphics. The Commando cart I have next to it, several were made, and contains a PIN hole on the side to swap between NTSC and PAL regions: Both of course would not be under consideration for the list mentioned in this thread, but your posted comments reminded me of both of them.

  33. I would like to add a further detail, in the end I bought the TC26SC600HS from Best Electonics hoping that it was compatible. Well, Toshiba's TC26SC600HS has 144 pins, while the original unbranded 6SC600HF has 160 pins. After a moment of despair, looking at the motherboard and the wiring diagram, I noticed that the extra pins are not used and they are external for each side. I replaced the original chip with the toshiba, and the jaguar works perfectly. I wish all of this would help someone.

  37. Now that there's some support for chunked http transfers, my silly site scroller should work with long pages. (tnfs or www) https://fujinet.online/tnfs-data/networking/www.atr Currently the script pauses for each screen fill and if you wait too long to press return, the next page will be out of sync or it will keep scrolling the same page forever. I suspect the buffer on fujinet is getting overwritten/out of order because we aren't reading it fast enough. anyhow, it's a good way to test the new chunked support

  39. A new firmware update is available at https://fujinet.online/download FujiNet Version: 0.5.6f806979 Version Date/Time: 2021-06-03 03:48:26 Build Date/Time: Thu Jun 3 23:15:13 UTC 2021 Wonderful World Wide Web: * Added support for chunked HTTP transfers. Can now get looooong web pages: Now, who's gunna write a real Atari web browser? Also of note for anyone building firmware on their own, PlatformIO has updated the Espressif32 platform to 3.2.1 (ESP-IDF 4.2.1) which has broken the stock build due to IRAM overflow. You can get it to build by disabling Bluetooth in your platformio.ini but (obviously) Fujinet Bluetooth will not work. We will work on reducing IRAM usage to get Bluetooth support back in. In the mean time, the firmware builds available with the FujiNet flasher will remain on the older Espressif32 platform so everything remains working. Please do not respond to this thread. If you have an issue, start a new post in the FujiNet subforum, open an issue on the github tracker or ask for assistance in Discord chat.

I have (finally) updated the first post to reflect my review of the final version of the game. TL;DR: The game is awesome! Go buy it! -dZ.
