  4. @kiwilove and I worked on this quite some time ago, but it was sidelined for various reasons. We've picked it up again and hope to make something playable from it. Your task is to destroy all the turrets on the dreadnought, collect a hostage and return to the launch bay. This is complicated by a host of different enemies attacking you. Use the joystick to move your ship, left trigger to fire and right trigger to flip direction. If you destroy a dragon, it will be followed by a pickup that you can collect: S = Shield boost P = Protector W = Weapon upgrade The game finishes when your shield is fully depleted. There will be 7 dreadnoughts in total, but I've only sequenced the first 2 so far. ttda_0.1.a78 ttda_0.1.bin

  11. And you keep posting in such a way that shows you have the brain capacity of a gnat. You said "Absolutely nothing to do with Yars in any way" I responded- linking you to a recording of the devs responding to exactly that- and they said the game stays very faithful to the Yars story, and that fans of the old game will be pleasantly surprised and give it a chance. You obviously didn't take the time to listen... And I laugh every time someone mentions the stock and uses the current price as an insult...instead of the buying opportunity it is. Atari continues to grow....the price will follow.

  12. Pretty sure someone said that someone said that they heard that someone told someone else that they got them, they just haven't submitted the paperwork yet or something silly like that. But they're as good as got.

  16. Innermost Secrets Of TI-99/4A by Randy Holcomb This was originally a series of articles in the Computer Shopper, and it was reprinted in booklet format, and I didn't see any good copy of it on the Internet, so decided to test out my Canon MF3010 scanner in seeing how well it makes a PDF, as I have a number of printed items, including some of my own source code only in paper format, so I wanted to do a test run to see how well I can scan a number of pages and do an OCR if possible on them. Looking forward to any experts out there on suggestions on what are good settings or software to use for the equipment I have which currently is just a Canon MF3010 and sadly can only manually do one page at time. In the meantime, enjoy this PDF of this booklet which is good beginner guide to using the VDP and file DSR for assembly language programmers out there that want to get started coding on the TI-99/4a computers. 🥰 TI99-InnermostSecrets.PDF

  17. If you've tried downloading game binaries recently in forum threads (such as .bin files for Atari 2600 games), you may have seen a warning from your web browser that the file is dangerous and contains malware. These warnings are FALSE, and the attachments you're receiving warnings about are not dangerous. Unfortunately, it seems that Firefox and Chrome (and perhaps other browsers) have decided to flag all files with certain file extensions, such as .bin, as being dangerous. Here's an example of this warning in Chrome: And in Firefox: For Chrome and Firefox, you can follow the following instructions to avoid these warnings. IN CHROME: Go to Settings (three dots in top right) then Privacy and Security, then Security, then change your 'Safe Browsing' setting to a lower protection until you can download. IN FIREFOX: Go to Settings (three lines in top right) then Privacy and Security, then scroll down to Security, then uncheck 'Block dangerous downloads'. You can also allow files one by one if you're not comfortable turning that off by clicking on the download icon in the top right (down arrow into bin) and then allowing the file. If you don't want to do this, you can generally override the warning and force the download to complete. Thanks to James at ZeroPage Homebrew for writing up the above instructions. If you have any questions, please comment below. Thank you, ..Al

  19. Hahah... sorry, that was both a serious and sarcastic response at the same time. Really... I'd only replace a label if it's really trashed. But I can't imagine that anyone would be upset (or that you shoudl be concerned) if you're replacing it with a nice quality replacement. I've become like you, as a collector. I do still have all those games in the picture above (and they're still wrapped), but I intend to take them out and actually just enjoy the games. I'm not concerned with "collecting" anymore. I sold off a lot of the stuff I have, and now just keep the things I think I'll actually play. But to each their own, and I'm not judging... it's just for me, my priorities changed and I just don't have the space. But my 2600 games, I'll never get rid of. That's my childhood!

  21. Wow, those m network carts look amazing with label art. Never thought of that, but they do have plenty of space for such labels, and look great. Yeah I was thinking mostly of actiplaque, which is mostly an Activision thing, though missing ends on atari first party are common, some of mine have wear marks from fingers or thumbs touching the label while inserting or removing. Never been to concerned with standard wear, as long as it doesn't look bad. Part of the charm for physical media is you can visibly see the love, so to speak. Those relabeled Activision look great btw, day one freshness you probably wouldn't even get opening a brand new nos game today even.

  22. Holding down+fire in the air performs a jump punch. Simply pressing fire without moving performs a low kick. During the knee bend animation press up for a high kick or away for a round house. I wanted standing block to be a hybrid of SF2 but without locking you in place, so you continue to walk away but upon hit it becomes a block. I chose the moveset based on what hand movements felt more natural to the sprite animations. E.g. while I really wanted Scorpions spear to be down, back, fire, it felt too unnatural to do down, forward, fire for his ghost punch which moves in the opposite direction. The jump punch has the character sprite leaning down/forward in the air and jump kick seemed to be used more during play so that's how I went with the controls. I left a DEBUG in the game, so doing a straight up jump punch will change to the next character for testing. (forgot to remove it for the demo)

  28. You can hit the gong as many times as you want on a level. The only requirement to hit it again is to have Hank exit the hospital waiting room. Hank’s feet have to be in the grass. Also, while the gong chime sound is playing, Hank can walk through the therapy dogs without being affected. Of course you got to be careful with the timing of this method but you don’t have to go completely around the dogs during this brief period of the gong playing.

  29. 😲 I thought you could only use it once per level!

  32. The jump forward/back is just a straight line up, then up+over, then over, then over+down, then down. Basically 5 straight lines approximating the arch as closely as possible. This saves a lot of memory and allows for just simple intergers. The delay on arching jump- just a variable counter that decides how long to move up, then up plus over, then over plus down, etc.. There is also a separate variable to delay the up/down jump. The frames are ALMOST as many as in MK2 on Genesis. But not quite, so to make up for lack of frames and telegraphing an attack (aka seeing it coming and having time to block it before the final frame of animation) the punch (for example) will instantly appear with arm fully extended, but damage is delayed a split second so it can be blocked if the opponent is fast enough. This way it feels like a responsive input for the attacker while being fair to the blocker. I think sprites are totally maxed out or else I'd try to squeeze one more frame of the starting punch. So for now that's how it works.

  33. Very nicely done! I love the sprite work. I've had a pipe dream for a while now to make a samurai game but wasn't sure if the single button controller was enough to map all the combat moves I wanted to include (basic stuff like block/attack up and down plus jump and crouch). If you don't mind me asking, how did you decide on the control scheme? How many frames does each animation last and what kind of a delay did you institute for the jump forward/back feature?

  35. I agree, Alien is a reach. Despite the film tie-in, the humans in this game aren't really characters as much as generic avatars for us, the players. Blank canvases onto which we can ascribe any attribute. It can be Ripley if you want it to be, which is different than it's Ripley, full stop. If Ripley is in Alien, then Raquel Welch is in the submarine in Fantastic Voyage. 😜

  37. You have to start using the bell in the middle for almost every delivery once the Therapy Dogs get fast, that's the most important thing to completing that level! Don't always walk straight up to it, get close and hit it when the dogs are at a good spot for you you slip past them when they are frozen.

  46. There's not much to learn by testing status bits after doing a CLR, regardless of whether it is possible or not. You already know that the result it pretty close to zero. A method you haven't mentioned yet is taking advantage of the peculiar design of the TMS 9900. If you want to access R7 byte by byte you can simply do MOVB R7,somewhere MOVB @MYREGS+15,somewhere+1 In the case you don't know what registers you are running with you can do this MOVB R7,somewhere STWP R4 MOVB @15(R4),somewhere+1 The result at somewhere is the same as after MOVB R7,somewhere SWPB R7 MOVB R7,somewhere+1 The first two have the possible advantage that the content of R7 is not disturbed.
