It just depends on what you want to do - if you have a groups of collecting friends that you want to sell to as a favor of sorts, you could do a private auction. But putting a game on Ebay is common practice, and you will almost certainly get more money that way. Most people just sell on Ebay (i.e. you weren't out of line).

Anyone know what the status is of a new MESS version? The last WIP posting was in August the last time I looked, and I've been looking forward to the new release that should run several games for the first time. You can now find it at www.mess.org BTW.

The user needs to have the font installed in order to see it. I don't, and all I see is standard Courier. I'd recommend using a style sheet with a font-family so it at least degrades to something more attractive than Courier. Style sheets are a good idea in general, and will save you tons of time down the road.

[beg]Hey Pitbull, can you scan that MR box for us?[/beg]

Hmmm, okay. So are there screenshots anywhere? Not old print ads, but screen shots from the proto that was found.
-
You might want to follow the poll on the front page or our site. I just started it today, and it contains many of the most popular games. Some of them are expensive though. My first two affordable must-haves would be Tempest 2000 and Alien vs. Predator.

F12 seems to be used for screenshots for a lot of emus (except z26), I'd vote for that just for consistency, if you decide to implement it (which I would also vote for).

It is our belief that these do not exist. Glacier Patrol was in fact finished but never released by Sunrise. The code was purchased by Telegames, and they released the game under their own label. Snowplow has never been found that I know of. The game was seen at one of the CES shows in the 80's, but never released. It's unknown if this code even exists today.

Okay, those four new ROMs are online, plus screenshots for Alien Brigade, Impossible Mission (title screen only) and Pit-Fighter. Thanks Mitch! We also removed GATO from the list as we understand nobody has actually found this. That would be a good one for an undiscovered list, but we're currently only listing known titles.

Atari70's, People are just kidding, don't take it too hard. Seriously though, you have a lot of good stuff to say, and it really makes it easier if you have have good spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Nobody is perfect, and nobody expects you to be perfect either, but it might help if you could try to capitalize the beginning of your sentences, and write in complete sentences most of the time. You tend to use a lot of fragments that make it difficult to read your posts. Please don't take offense at this, I'd just like to see more people reading your posts.

Thanks Mitch, I'll make these changes and see if I can get Pit-Fighter to run. And check your email.

I saw this rumor posted over at JII: "if anyone here is from the UK then electronics botique is from tommorow restocking the jaguar and loads of games, the console is £50 with 2 games and games are £10 - £15. get down to EB tommorow, im getting one. they are also going to be haveing game gears and lynxs soon." So, any UK friends care to comment?

Crossbow, It'd be nice if you could put your sig graphic to the right of your sig text instead of below it. As it is, it takes up a huge amount of vertical space every time you post. If you're not sure how to do it, just let me know and I'll do it for you, if you wouldn't mind.

We made some updates to the 7800 section: - New 3D Asteroids ROM from Dan Boris that works in the latest version of MESS. Also posted some screenshots. - Posted ROMs for Alien Brigade, Tower Toppler, Double Dragon, Rampage, and Impossible Mission. These are raw dumps, so they aren't going to play in MESS, but maybe this will help someone get them running. - Posted the Pit-Fighter ROM from Blackjax's site. This won't run in the most recent MESS, but apparently will run in some older versions. If anyone has an older windows version like 0.375, I'd appreciate a copy so I can try to get a screenshot of this. - So I believe the only games that don'e work in MESS still are Alien Brigade, Double Dragon, Impossible Mission, Rampage, Summer Games, Tower Toppler, Winter Games, and Xenophobe. Also I understand from DanB that Summer and Winter Games should work in the next version of MESS. Please correct me if any of this is wrong.

I've looked around, and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to integrate a spellchecker. UBB no longer supports one natively, they used to have a deal with spellchecker.net, but no longer.

Why the hell would someone just throw something away like that? I mean, if she was making a deal for just the carts and she actually had a use for the boxes, I could understand. What difference is it to her if you get them all for $4 with or without the box if she's just going to throw them away? That's a flea market dealer for ya. I feel your pain.

Thanks for the input. I've actually been tracking Jag games on Ebay for a while, so I have a fairly good idea of how often games show up there. I place much more value on the frequency of a game rather than price for reasons you mentioned like popularity. Price (on the open market) can be a helpful indicator for rarity, but not something I would rely on. I'll write Telegames and see if they have any actual production numbers that might be helpful. I do in fact have another rarity guide based on Ebay frequency that we didn't use because of the online retailers, but perhaps it will come into play. Anyone else care to comment.

So. I'm not very handy with a soldering iron. I modded one of my 2600's for composite output, but it was somewhat fragile and fell apart after some very modest jostling. Surely someone can do a better job than I, and I would pay for it. Anyone want to mod one of my 2600's so I can use my switchbox and get better audio/video? S-Video would be ideal, but composite would do. I know Chris Wilkson is working on a kit, and I would love to buy one, but I don't know when it will be out. If anyone can do a nice job of this for me, I would be very grateful.

It's possible that you have some prototypes, but these chips often have made-up titles on them. I have about 100 bare chips from various sources, some with names like Romulan Attack, Convoy, Ice Planet, Cowyboy, Wiz, etc. They've all just turned out to be released games that the owner didn't know they real title to, so they made something up. Most of mine came from Motorola employees who burned their own chips for personal use (they were producing the chips for Atari), but they only ever had access to the released games. However, it's always possible you have a prototype(s) in there. We also have the ability to dump ROMs/EPROMs if you want to loan anything to us.

Unfortunately, I don't have that information. However, someone recently sent me a pic of a cartridge expander/romscanner type device that has Cat Trax as a built-in game. Very strange. I'll be posting some pics of it soon. It was found in Canada.

The question is, what sources are measured for the rarity guide? If it's only counting flea markets, thrift stores, and ebay, you'll get one set of values. If you include online retailers like Best, B&C, Telegames, etc., you get something more like what we have done. FYI, Atari Karts and AMP is available from Telegames for anyone who wants them. In the past, online retailers have been counted. For example, the Oshea's/AtariClassics games have been given a low rarity even though they may be hard to find in the wild. But if we say they're rare, then people can just call up Oshea's and order a bunch of "rare" games. Should we do it differently for the Jaguar? Perhaps Jaguar should not reflect online retailers, and be more of a thrift/flea/ebay guide?

UA is still a mystery to me. I've talked to Ward Shrake, who is very knowledgable about the Arcadia, and I don't think he knows much about them either. If anyone knows anything about UA, I'd love to hear about it.

Hey Stan, Thanks for pointing that out, I've fixed the problem. It was just a path in the .cgi script that I missed updating for the new server. If you want a custom avatar, you can send it to us in any form, and we'll optimize it in either .gif or .jpg depending on the image. Images must be 64x64, we can resize it for you if need be. Send it to [email protected]
