  1. I've been looking into getting hard drive autoboots to work in WinstonX (Winston compiled for the xbox). The functionality is there, just not taken advantage of.

What's the point of running 'hard drive autoboots' with emulator ? Which btw. has no real hard disk emulation. What is 'hard drive autoboot' at all ? (see recent thread about here).

I suggest that stay by floppy images.

Winston ? So, Steem works not on Xbox ? I don't see the point to do it with Winston, as it lacks true hard disk emulation.

Autoboot from mounted some DIR of Win as Atari partition is not same as autoboot from real hard disk.

Better try with Hatari, as it has ACSI emulation. In Steem ACSI emulation works via Pasti.dll .

Here you can read little about adaptations (not covering whole issue) : http://ppera.07x.net/atari/playfhd.html

  3. Sometimes it can be done very simple, as is mentioned here. Sometimes crackers protect their 'work'. Sometimes game must be run from AUTO folder etc... There is a lot of variants. For hard disk usage often a lot of modification is needed. But even for floppy usage it is not pointless. For instance there are several cases where menu runs not on higher TOS versions, but game itself runs well. Not to mention that not anyone likes to watch intros full with messages without any sense...

  4. ...

I think you are talking about converters in the reverse direction. I meant those converters that let you use an old PS/2 keyboard with say, a modern laptop without PS/2 ports. I never used one, but I doubt very much those are just passive connectors. They do cost a bit more than the ones you are talking about.

    ...

Sorry, but you talked about "lately cost a couple of dollars". PS/2-USB converters are over 20 Euros usually.

  5. ... Patched Falcon PSG sound....

Patched Falcon sound means: instead movep.l d0,0(a0) putting swap d0, movep.w d0,0(a0), swap d0, movep.w d0,0(a0) (or can be done in many ways) ... Patch makes less noise by sample playback for instance. What I did in several cases already - Prince of Persia, Xenon 2 ...

Just to note, as some proven liars talking about ripping adaptations. Haha.... what adaptation ? Already hard disk compatible game made hard disk compatible ? Now go, and disasm. to see how it is fixed :)

  6. I think that discussion went to less relevant things. What microcontroller costs couple bucks less is really not so important. Here is biggest problem programming of adapter. I don't think that existing libraries are of much use. Maybe, but kbd. matrix of Atari is certainly not same as in PC keyboards.

"Honestly, they are cheaper than what I thought when I wrote the previous post. And I forgot about those widely available, PS2/USB converters that lately cost a couple of dollars; which is another option."

Such converters are usually (those cheap ones for sure) just passive connector adapters. As most of mouses with USB connectors use PS2 protocol. It is checked - myself made PS2-Atari adapter, and it works well with all of 4 my USB mouses.

I think that only special gamer mouses use real USB protocol to have faster response, as PS2 protocol is not suitable for fast action games due to slow transfers.

  7. Some updates made:

Another World: Falcon sound init added as after clean boot it had no sound (at least not with TOS 4.02)

Dive Bomber: Some memory allocation fixes and Mega STE speed control

Helter Skelter: Patched Falcon PSG sound, intro plays sample on all machines

  8. Updated Helter Skelter, version from 1990 (much better than first). There is bad Automation crack around (and in Gamebase ST) - game just finishes when time runs out instead losing 1 life. It is fixed and trainer options added.

    In January: Hook

    I Ludicrus

    Jumpin' Jackson

    Jungle Book

    Mouse Trap

    Pac-Land

    Unreal

  9. Latest updates:

    Gravity: very interesting, original.

    OIDS - Falcon fixed.

    Crapman - Falcon sound works.

    Stone Age - 2 versions.

Magic Boy - Falcon sound fixed.

    Great Giana Sisters

    Hero Quest

    Helter Skelter - funny

Hook - this can be finished (in less than 30 mins). Solution suplied.

    Heroes of the lance

    Happy New Year !

  10. As I tried several times to conversate with them reasonable, and to calm down things, and nothing is changed, I need to say couple things, and then will not mention them here at all. What means not that will not respond if see some lies, insults appear.

Mr. CJ said that most of insulting posts at their forum was reaction on my insults here and other forums. Everyone who seen that place may see how much correct is that, as his claims there. I posted there only 1 reply, after registering twice, as first account was deleted before I was able to post. CJ then deleted quickly my account again. I can consider it only as NAZI behaviour. It is not enough to constantly insult someone, but even cut his rights to reply, explain things...

Not to mention, that even at Christmas, he was unable to act normally. Only biggest phrick can do what he is done with notes in ULS. It is really sad to see such things. Many people said me to just ignore them. I don't think so. And I will not tolerate lies. But will not spend much more time about...

Why we just can not leave each other to do things as we can best, when are unable to work together ?

  11. OK. Here is how I think to make programm easier for beginners:

At start will ask for user mode: post-10093-1230558429_thumb.png

Beginner (or simple) mode will look like: post-10093-1230558525_thumb.png

Of course, it will be made with nicer look, bigger letters. Any ideas, but please post it fast... ?

  12. This is not only user interface. Simplest part is to do GUI, buttons. But need to make lot of code with many branches.

In any case, I can make different UI version of program. But it will not happen if people will not clearly say what wants.

Such postings as here do nothing useful. Most of programmers would just ignore them...

  13. It is certainly not bug, just way of usage. Program would need more buttons or some wizards to allow usage without thinking. But it is not my style. If you click on Floppy image after selecting some image file, program just considers that you want to work with floppy. Well, maybe, if image file is already selected, and is clicked on floppy image after it, and then user selects 'image to floppy' program should use parameters of image. I will rethink it, and modify program.... Hmm, but only in case if in meantime nothing is loaded from floppy in RAM....

Parameters in floppy's BPB in bootsector and it's physical format must not match. For instance, if floppy is formatted to 800K once, and later was written some image of 720KB on, without format on, it will be still wiht 10 sectors/track physically. So, if after writing 720KB on, user tries to write again some image of 800KB on, it will work without format checked.

  14. Special Xmas gift: fixed video on Falcon in OIDS. Fixed sound playback of Magic Boy on Falcon.

Use sort by date on page, so latest updates will be on the top of table.

Btw. problem by Magic Boy was that it uses 6.25KHz DMA sound when DMA sound HW is detected. But Falcon supports not that samplerate. I fixed it by fooling detection, so on Falcon it uses PSG sound (as on ordinary ST). Interesting - it looks that authors were not informed about Falcon's capabilities, or just didn't care.

  15. Another game with no sound on Falcon, what I saw is not Starball but Crapman (nice Pacman clone).

I looked little in Magic Boy - it uses shadow regs., but it is not the problem, of course. If problem is because of different stack frame of 68030 it could be fixed easy, but it seems very unlikely... Anyway, I will look more during hollidays. If nothing else, will learn little :)
