  1. Yes, there is - except it's here: http://www.dbug-automation.co.uk Click on patches. At the very least, you won't get confused by the website layout (because it has one) Yeah. As I expected... Well... I talked about what I did, saw recently. And I was focused on games which use system calls. So called 'DMA' loaders not interesting me. Because they go out when doing adaptation for hard drive... So, why so many game still works not on STE when floppy loader is replaced? Why doing all adaptations at once, when we can do it separately Talking about Falcon shadow registers and other is another example that CJ just seeks how to play smarthead, instead reading really what criticises. And I mentioned most of those Falcon HW incompatibilites on site. And all talk it is pretty outdated, since is solved mostly with Backwards and STE2FALC. It is just for users comfort to do sompatibility settings in launcher. 68000 has 24 bit CPU registers? Interesting that one CPU has CPU registers... Interesting that TOS sets some vectors with 32 bit values even under TOS 1.xx ... Now I see why I have so much bugs in my programs - I trying to use 32bits Bad cracks? Yes there is a lot of bad cracks with bugs, for instance loader for Commando by Replicants where one push is forgotten when doing pexec call. But it worked under TOS 1.02 for some reason. Not on higher ones. And what about cracks which work only with 512KB? Is STE introduced 1MB and more in Atari ST serie? Crap... Not to mention lot of incomplete cracks as Carrier Command by great Automation... And again that floppy reading incompability... Who cares for floppies in 2008? I started user fillable list for all possible (in)compatibility cases - what runs not on what, what incompability is solved on what, hard disk running possibilities, solutions, with easy, couple click downloads (if there is adaptation, patch) and then great CJ comes with his 2 page site to say that all you need is to click on patches.... So, it will help to know what is incompatible with what.... Better do something to increase number of ULS patches, or change it's name to NSULS P.S. if someone did not notice, I just added some reasons in my first post here. Not tended to mention all them, especially not those already mentioned...
  2. About games compatibility: In many cases not HW, but TOS version is reason why game works not on STE or Falcon (and ST too). Then, bad crack, launcher is many times the reason to not run on some higher TOS version. More about it here: http://www.ppest.org/atari/plafh.html http://www.ppest.org/atari/playfhd.html I started list of (in)compatibility, interactive: http://www.ppest.org/atari/atricl.php There is a place for solved incompatibilities and possibility to run from hard disk.
  3. If no jumpers to set floppy drive as A or B (or 0/1) then simplest is to shortcut pins 10 and 12 on floppy connector. See this: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=14049 Here is a lot of Atari SW: http://www.planetemu.net There is more site still active. For instance some ftp ones have lot of utilities: ftp://ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de/pub/atari/
  4. It will work. But you will have problems with larger files, not to mention beeing DJ in case of many data. What I can recomment is to buy some (new, PC) 3.5 inch floppy drive. Prices are really low. It will work with Atari, only some simple wiring is necessary if no jumpers on drive. Trasnferring to 386 machine from Internet - how will do that ?
  5. Likely. I have couple SMD380. Wanna swap ?
  6. Yes, it is useful on PC, but is not really for Win XP. Program is older, and there are some graphic issues under XP. Worse is work with floppies - although program claims that can read 800K Atari floppies it works not under XP. Reason is explained in post above.
  7. Not correct - problem by Win XP is not floppy controller chip in PC, but floppy driver of XP. It is discussed million times, but as I see there will be always people who gets from somewhere incorrect informations. It is at least 3-4 years since Simon Owen made frawcmd - enhanced floppy driver for Win XP ( +2K, Vista). With it, it is possible to read/write most of unprotected Atari ST floppies under Win XP. Even some protected ones. Read little about here: http://www.ppest.org/atari/floimgd.php Just to mention that many emulators use fdrawcmd for direct floppy access - new is latest version of Saint. There is mine SW for mounting ST and MSA image files for Atari hard disk (card storage) users: http://www.ppest.org/atari/imgrun.php
  8. It is almost sure that Atari is in monochrome mode still, when you attach color monitor. Reason is in bad monitor cable, adapter. It connects somehow monochrome sensor pin to GND, what activates mono mode. So, need to check it, get another cable...
  9. There is now version of IMGRF (Image Runner Fast) for TOS 1.06/1.62 . http://www.ppest.org/atari/imgrun.php
  10. It's even not sure that floppy drive is faulty. It may be floppy controller circuit in machine, or cable. Of course, trying another drive will answer some questions. But fitting PC drive requires setting it to drive 0, what is even not possible with all (especially newer) drives. Btw. it is not power light on floppy drive. It is activity light
  11. Yes, yes. There is at least 2 FPGA based project in development. Suska and MiniMig. It is likely only reasonable way today. But probably we need to wait some time until it will be ready, and more time to fix all incompabilities with certain SW.
  12. Yes, yes. There is at least 2 FPGA based project in development. Suska and MiniMig. It is likely only reasonable way today. But probably we need to wait some time until it will be ready, and more time to fix all incompabilities with certain SW.
  13. My last talk here about D-bug and their shitty behaviour. Really can do nicer and more useful conversations here and anywhere other... No reply to nonsenses from CJ... They recommended 'guide' on their site... It is very short and primitive. Then, they recommend some program named HD-Copy for floppy disk images on PC. They claim that it works in all Windowses. Program is from 1995... Of course it works not in XP, actually it frozes immediately. As bonus even link to file on site is dead It was just example about their seriousness. Another: using terms what don't know - wiping means complete overwriting of all sectors on hard disks, and then really datas can not be restored. But now CJ talks about deleting only FAT... (datas can be restored with knowledge and special SW) . So much about their consistence in this . But is what we can expect from pshychopats . Finally, they insulted not only me, but Simon Owen too, who did excellent low level floppy driver for Win 2K, XP and later, what FloImg uses to override limitations of built-in one. Unlike Win 95, first edition, which can read most of Atari floppies, Win XP can not work even with 800K floppy, very popular among Atarists.
  14. FloImg formats when 'Format' checkbox is checked. Otherwise just writes sectors. Formatting is usually not required, and of course slowdowns image writing to floppies. Format is needed if you have floppy with less sectors and/or tracks than image requires. For instance if you have floppy with 720K and image is 800 or even more. In any case, it is good idea to do format on ST, and then write images on PC. It will be little better readable. But you need some formatting program which can more formats than Desktop formatter. I don't recommend FastCopy Pro (very popular). It may produce problems on PC.
  15. Yes, there is a history of stupid insults what started with CJ, then ggn continued. Some posts were deleted here on my request, so they decided to spit on their site, and so called 'guide' . what a miserable one (independent from what they say about FloImg) . To keep it short, last year DriveImage was program what deletes Windows partitons. It even had some sense, since that program can do it if user is very uncareful or stupid like brick (as only D-bug member can be). Then I saw ggn's reply here and went there to see is my program mentioned there - I was on that is not. But was wrong, it was 'mentioned' ... All what can say: every little experienced PC user may see how absurd it is: that floppy handling program will damage partitions- Not only damage but wipe... This latest is ridiculous - to wipe some 80 GB drive. you need lot of time, and it is not possible to do from Windows, which constantly accesses C partition. To answer your questions: use quality floppies. PC and Atari have different floppy controller chips, and it means that only very good recording will be good readable on other machine. Of course, you need 3.5, DD (720K) floppies. IF use my FloImg (it is for XP) then no need to care much about format. If get messages about RNF errors, just check in 'Format' . MSA images are better than ST, because hold more informations. So much in brief.
  16. Don't use FloImg. Later (highly improved) versions can cause gas explosion in your building, or that your baby getting cancer ! You have been warned ! http://www.ppest.org/atari/
  17. What a bunch of morons are you D-bug folk... Quote: "Note: There is a program called FloImg that claims to be working perfectly and can read/write disks on the PC. D-Bug strongly discourages the use of this program, as it is known to wipe out whole Windows partitions without any sort of recovery!!! " Last year, Drive Image was that which wiped partitions... Thank you very much for helping Atari community with your idiotic, personal biased behaviour. Too bad that people thinks that you are some Robin Hoods... Just money and fame hungry psychopats/sociopats...
  18. Yeah, just connect to wall. But if you have protector, it will not harm.
  19. Good coders (as myself ) use 200Hz system timer.
  20. I really can not understand why we need to overcomplicate things. This is crazy: ACSI-SCSI-IDE-SD . 3 adapters in row... I start to think that Simbo is payed by some manufacturers to increase selling
  21. Some notes: There is a 1GB limit by some ICD adapters (and inernal one in Mega STE). It is hardware limitation and has not much with driver used. As I know, only latest ICD Pro adapters can access above 1GB on SCSI drives. On their WEBsite it is not clear what adapters can access what. Then, it has nothing with partition size limits of TOS. As said, it is HW limitation. SCSI-IDE adapters should work. However, I have bad expereiences with CF cards. With Yamaha adapter it worked not with most CF cards. Only Sandisk 2GB was partitally usable - reading was OK, but writing not. With regular hard disks it worked flawless and very fast - as DMA chip in Ataris can (1280KB/sec) . There are other adapters which maybe work better with CF... Exoshell: what capacity is attached SCSI drive ?
  22. Program was written with main purpose to backing up old Atari ST floppies (mostly personal ones, unprotected). I was not satisfied with existing SW for that purpose, and it was need for Win XP version, since MS did some changes in floppy driver, which resulted in inability of working with 800KB floppies. I have some floppies with bad areas, and therefore added error log function - it helps to recover some file from parts if it is on more copies - usually errors aren't on same part of file. What program can not is imaging of copy protected floppies (except few cases as Virus) and hyperformat ones (11 sec/track, 880KB or more capacity) what is result of hardware limitations of something different FDC in PC. It looks that most of problems is in relation of PC to ST transfer - it happens to me too sometimes. Reason is usually bad quality of floppies, and may be improved with better drives. I will add some text about in on site...
  23. In theory it is possible, but in reality no way. First problem is that Atari has little reduced parallel port with less lines than PC. Other is that no driver. Your only way to use some SCSI drive is adapter, as those mentioned. But prices are not low.
  24. Note that this game is an ST game that also runs on falcon (a bit accelerated of course). There are quite a few falcon vids on youtube by much better video encoders than myself, but there were very few of games etc. So that's what I did mostly... That Atari version is nice example of very efficient machine code programming. It is main reason of good speed. On site is described lot of tricks used.
