  1. And instead we got slowdowns. Well fair's fair... As one poster pointed out with the NES you got the fun of flicker AND slowdowns. -Ray
  2. It's an opinion question, it can't be unfair. It's a matter of personal taste. Being different kinds of games shouldn't matter. -Ray
  3. Man that was a tough decision....but since there was only one Castlevania on the Genesis and it was great I had to vote for it underdog stylee...I like most of them equally though. The N64 version wasn't as bad as the first PS2 game, I'll give it that. It wasn't that good though if ya ask me. Dracula's Curse, of course. It was, in my opinion, the game that set up any and all Castlevanias that would follow. It also introduced Alucard whom we would see about 50, 000,000 times in various sequals. -Ray
  4. Not if all his output following his Atari computer work was on the MAC. Then I have nothing else to learn because nothing else he did was written on computers for mainstream audiences. I'm sure he is notable for his work within the Mac niche market. But, since the vast majority of the known computer users of the world will never play his stuff, its a pretty moot point. Oh and he started the Game Developers Conference, because he was apparently lonely and wanted to discuss game development with people who programmed their stuff on real computers, after he stopped working on real computers (Atari). -Ray
  5. When I was a kid, I always assumed the Ghosts in Pac-Man flickered on purpose, because they were GHOSTS. It never occured to me that Atari wasn't just taking Artistic License. I mean look at that game, the whole thing is Artistic License. Flicker didn't bother me as a kid, and it doesn't bother me now. Gyruss would NOT bepossible without flicker and the VCS was hardly the only machine that had flicker issues. Both the Commdore 64 and NES had flciker issues when certain parts of their games were using more than average memory. So, flicker is just something games did for YEARS until the issue was resolved in later memory heavy machines, such as the 16 bit consoles. -Ray
  6. It REALLY wasn't intended to show bias. That's why I included the Amstrad and the Spectrum. I was trying to cover the machines I thought most game-centric. Frankly, you can't knock the Apple 2's library too much. It had some pretty great original games and some games which played better on it than any other system. The original 1 on 1 and Pinball Construction set play WAY better on the Apple then they did on the C64. -Ray
  7. Actually I would very much like to hear your theory on attribute crash as associated with the Speccy's most famous title character. -Ray
  8. Indeed Ray , and this will be my last word on the subject. However for Informations sake I will at least point out that Mr Kizza did NOT PM any "details" to one of the WOS members. All he did say we are told , is that he would post some screen shots to prove his claims "when he has time". Not really saying much at all I guess. On a lighter note though , if time is an issue then help is at hand , and some kindly chap at WOS has already done the job for him. http://img334.imageshack.us/img334/1516/kizzavt9.png As for the real topic I guess I owe it to this forum to at least give an opinion. Despite being a major league speccy fan I think its pretty clear that the C64 was the best all round games machine to have at the time. I wanted to punch my C64 owning friend out of pure envy when I saw Uridium and Dropzone running for the 1st time. And I loved the Sid chip and still to this day think it made the AY sound like a pocket calculator. The only area it seemed to lack (as has already been pointed out) was in the 3D department , but even then , with the right programing skills it was more than capable as games like Mercenary, Elite and The Sentinel show. And thomasholzer PLZ.... "(That's why all those WOS guys here registered all the sudden and replied to defend their platform )" Yeah right.... whatever you say.... to defend our platform....... Like I just did.... Well, whatever the reason it is nice to have some new blood on the forums and my respect for the Spectrum certainly includes its fans and bearers of the torch. It is an INCREDIBLY underated machine and I am thrilled to have knowledgable people here to discuss it with. -Ray
  9. The ZX Spectrum screen of Pac-Land looks interesting. It looks like the Amstrad CPC version sans color. I prefer SMB over Pac-Land, but I like both games quite a bit. I love the music for the Pac-Land game/Pac-Man cartoon intro. Here ypu go... 1 full episode of Pac-Man divided into two parts... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THRkC8C2jKI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-BnXnB1z0A Once I watched it, I was...hmmm...somewhat less nostalgic about it. -Ray
  10. To my knowledge the Pac-Land game came from the cartoon. That is why he is wearing his litle hat. -Ray
  11. Back when I first played this game in the arcade that week I had a nightmare of seeing a clown being riped apart by thouse cute dino like mosters, I kid you not! But then again in 1982 when I was 10 I had any bad dreams but to this day I still remeber that part of my dream from way back tells me that this game really did get to me I believe I've made my point. -Ray
  12. lol, I know it sucks, but hey, it will be an easy addition to my collection, and...I don't think there are to many games for it.....are there?....it will probably be easier to collect for... I'm pretty sure it has more games than the Odyssy 1 did. The O1 only had its original games that were loaded into the system and the others were only printed on cave walls and never released. -Ray
  13. He hasn't posted anything further and we've managed to have some pretty good topic related discussion the last page or so. Maybe, we should keep it that way and let that other business go. -Ray
  14. I don't know if there would be enough of them to carry the gasoline AND torches in one trip. I kid I kid. -Ray
  15. If they're working fully? 8/10. Its so nice having a paddle and joystick in one controller for on the go. Unfortuntely they don't last that terribly long. Wgat paddles ever do? -Ray
  16. I tell ya that infuriates me!!! No other hobby has so much disrespect thrown at its heritage like this one. If someone likes baseball, they never say things like how sucky those old baseball games were that were only shown in black and white. It's ridiculous. -Ray
  17. We should probably address your SCARY Penis obsession one of these days. Hmmm, come to think of it...probably not a good idea. -Ray
  18. That is actually true. The Sprites of Mario and Luigi wouldn't look like walking cubes. They would look not unlike they did in mario Brothers I'm sure. I wonder if Coleco would have been the ones to put out 2600 SMS? -Ray
  19. You make a very solid point. Hell, until I played the thing, I never would havce thought ANY versionf Jetpac was possible. The one on the minicart might be different, but MAN is it addictive...Just like the original! -Ray
  20. By 1982, Atari thought they could do anything...and it was that arrogance that destroyed them. If I ever get around to making my History of Atari Dramatic film, that line is so going in the trailer. -Ray
  21. I've been trying to figure out which is the better version between INV+ or Space Instigaters Instigaters looks a WHOLE lot like the arcade version to me. Any of you all have a preference? -Ray
  22. That is an EXTREMELY valid point and Zaxxon and Congo Bongo were both WAY more needy than Frogger to be sure. -Ray
  23. I totally agree. If you like Frogger you loose virtually NO gameplay with the 2600 version and you get all that awesome 2600 nostalgia by playing it. Of course, I might only be agreeing because your Jet Set Willy Avatar has mesmerized me into being its obediant slave. -Ray
  24. Which makes sense from one point of view, BUT... If we are talking late 1982, it would be the equivalemt of trying to do the same thing with an NES game in 1990. By that time what kid still didn't have an Atari? Certainly only the youngest ones getting ready to be old enough to play games. I mean don't get me wrong, I think you're right and that is exactly what they were thinking, especially since Pac-Man became a Pack in game not shortly after its release. But, economically I can't believe enough people still didn't own Ataris to justify over producing a game. -Ray

    NTSC Woes

That sounds like a pretty HUGE color variation to me. Maybe its a later game and is more itchy than earlier NTSC games. -Ray
