  1. It was a flop because it came too late. It was a kick ass game, IMHO. I'd love to spend more time with it.
  2. Surprised, did I miss a thread on this somewhere? I got this today. Awesome game! Totally hilarious. People are writing it off as more of the same, but they're wrong, it's not more of the same, it's completely different while being completely the same all the while making fun of itself in the process. If that makes sense. It's a bit differently designed than the first, I'll tell you that much. Instead of having your home planet, the space mushroom with your cousins and Earth all separate, the screen is all one place split into a few sections. You run around on the screen (While a beat plays to your footsteps) and choose what to do. You can walk (Fly) up off the top of the screen to visit the Cosmos and look at all your progress. (You can even import scores and times from the first game, and the imported stars and stardust and constellations get added to the stuff you get to roll up later.) The levels are completely new. Some are easy, some are hard. We've all seen the videos of underwater and the schoolroom, there's also a childs bedroom which turns out is connected to the back yard then eventually the whole neighborhood. I didn't have enough time to explore before I ran out of time... ...Which leads me to the Kings new way of getting angry for you being a loser Prince. No more lightning, well, I'll let you find out yourself. RUN!! (Literally) The King's just as flamboyant as ever. Talking about weird stuff as usual. Going off on tangents while speaking to you until one of the Earthlings sets him back on course. You get to play as any cousin you pick up. This is cool. An the gifts, looks like you get to wear as many as you want at once. (Not sure as I only got the flower so far.) You can choose whatever music you want for a level. The opening as more spectacular than before. As is the practice stage where you actually get scored. Some new level types. One kind has you picking up all the items in a set amount of time. (Cleaning up the kids room for example.) Another is the race, which I haven't gotten to yet. All in all, I say it's not disappointing if you love Katamari. It's the same goodness but with more creamy center and crunchy coating. Also, the cutscenes, kick ass. Better than the first. Sadly "I feel the Cosmos" girl is gone, but instead in her place are a series of really hilariously weird "King back story" scenes about the King as a child and his father. I can't wait to watch them again. Whoo!
  3. I will have to disagree totally and utterly here. I have both, and have not found either to be unworth the $400 I paid for both systems. Even though the DS isn't online yet, I've gotten mucho online enjoyment out of Mario 64, Zoo Keeper (Which I play more than Meteos) and now Mr. Driller and NanoStray which I got lucky today and found both at GameStop. (Nano was brand new! I almost died of shock right there. And my GOD, the graphics. And the effects. It's like a portable version of Ikaruga. Or at least a cousin. And Mr. Driller is a nice game I just played for the first time. Though, admittedly, I can't play with the stylus. It is too stupidly controlled. I find it faster and easier to use the D-pad there.) And my PSP has been worth it since I bought Lumines. And even more when I got Ridge Racer. Sure, I bought two flops I really wish I hadn't, Ape Escape (Which is fun, but just not my game, plus it got too hard way too abruptly.) and Mercury. (Which looked awesome in PSP previews at E3 last year, but turned out to be meh.) But when I got Namco, oh boy did it regain it's fun. BTW, what exactly is the appeal of Advance Wars? My brother had the GBA version a few years ago during my non-portable stint, so I never played it. What do you do? How does it play? How hard is it? Where are your troops and can I go there and count them?
  4. I'm buying one at launch anyway. So yes, if Mario is on it, I will buy it at launch. Let's hope they can get Smash Bros out by launch as well.
  5. The DS screens are sharper than the older GBA SP. But I assume they're about the same as the new SP that came out today with the BACK-LIT screen. The answer is yes, the screens are crisp and bright. Puts the older SP to shame. I notice no scratches. And anything that looks like a scratch is easily wiped away. It's all about the games. PSP is great, powerful, but only if the system has a game you want is it worth it. I'd say it's better than a PS1 but like an N64 without the blurry aftertaste. (Antialiasing) It's not better than the N64 that I've seen. But maybe it is. It sure ain't a GameCube. This is where the PSP is superior, the PSP looks almost like a PS2 game. But the DS is pretty much an N64 with AA turned off. But it's ALL ABOUT THE GAMES, MAN! Both have great games now, and both have great games coming. Especially Nintendo with the plethora of Mario games and ANIMAL CROSSING: WILD WORLD!!! Oh, and ElectroPlankton. This holiday season will be a wallet breaker for any DS or PSP owner, I'll tell you that much.
  6. How exactly do you hold the PSP that you almost drop it when you use the nub, Shannon? That seems strange. When I use the nub, I have my whole hand over the thing. Pointer finger on the L button. And the middle three fingets securely holding it in place. Same place as the right hand. I can't see how you would be holding it so delicately.
  7. As soon as a GameStop gets a used copy of Hitchhikers Guide on UMD, I will buy my first UMD movie. Until then, I'm getting along fine with Namco and Lumines.
  8. Surprisingly, I don't get hand cramps with the PSP. But I do with the PS controllers. It has to be the shape. The PSP is like an SNES controller.
  9. I don't see ANY blurring in Rolling Thunder. Only Rally-X and New Rally X.
  10. I for one am not nettled. I see no quandary. I think it's just a trifling thing to cry about. [Puts away Thesaurus]
  11. The only movie I would have loved to buy a game of would have been HitchHikers Guide, even if it was just based on the otiginal text adventure with a point and click 3D world instead of text as well as the cast from the movie. But alas, we got every other damn movie, but no Guide. Think of the menu interface!
  12. Universal Media Disc. It's so Universal it works in every single um.. Sony PlayStation Portable. Can't get much more Universal than that!
  13. Oh, BTW, I also have StarTropics in S and Starropics II under Z because it's technically titled Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II. And if I had Wizards and Warriors 1 and 3, I'd still have to keep them separate from Wizards and Warriors 2 which would be under I for Ironsword. I've tried to put them together, but I must be Monk or something because I just can't order them incorrectly.
  14. What did you bet? Because I just won it. # of map tiles * dinstinct tiles = puzzle variations. Very simple concept. And no, that's not the right equation. I don't care. 926419[/snapback] I knew someone would understand what I meant.
  15. I too see no problem with the PSP's screen. I don't notice any slowness at all. And after kicking ass in Namco Museum, I really really don't find it hard to play 2D games at all.
  16. Technically, it's just a tile game. Each of those stages is comprised of a bunch of different "pieces" that are pieced together depending on whatever number the engine is fed. The possible number of stages depends on how many pieces there are times however big the "world" sphere is. I bet that didn't make a lick of sense to anyone here, but it did to me.
  17. The question now is where will we file "We Love Katamari"? K or W????
  18. Sonic and Knuckles is a great game, especially when you play it locked onto Sonic 3 and play from the very beginning, but Sonic 2 gets my vote as the best pick up and play Sonic. Not too easy, not too complicated, and the spin-dash makes it perfect. Sonic Deux.
  19. The one and only "Twisted". The only game I would ever want to play on a 3DO.
  20. Well, sadly, The Adventure of Link doesn't have the word "Legend" anywhere in the title, so for me I filed it under A for Adventure. The other game is under L for Legend though. I could also file Adventure under Z since it does say "Zelda II" on the label, but for now I just keep it under A. All my NES games are alphabetized. Now on my Collection page it's a different story. I actually called Adventure "The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link".
  21. Good idea, bad implementation. There are more movies than games for the PSP. And the movies are way overpriced. I would totally pay $5 more to get a UMD with the DVD, but no damn way in hell will I buy a movie twice unless it's really really really REALLY good and I must have it on my PSP. Bad Sony, really, how much does it cost to produce a UMD? Pack-in's sell better!
  22. Opinion: Lumines kicks so much ass. It is the best puzzle game to come along since the original Tetris grabbed the Game Boy world by the balls and didn't let go. Fact: The large screen, powerful processor and um... large screen make the PSP a potentially better system when it comes to putting the same game on both. It just comes down to how each version is done, and usually it's much better on the PSP. Fact: I don't have as much to contribute here as I thought I did. Opinion: Namco Museum Battle Collection, while missing a few games, kicks the pants off the Namco collection all the other consoles got this month. And I thank them for it. Because I don't think I would have enjoyed this collection if it had only been on the DS. The screen just pretty much seals that right there. Fact: There are no Nintendo games on the PSP which in my Opinion is sad as the DS just isn't the PSP. (Here's hoping the Game Boy Advance 2 is what we all hope it is. A REAL PSP competitor.) Fact: When Sony first announced the PSP, I was a big Sony hater and pretty much figured the PSP would suck balls. But when it came out and Lumines was released, I realized how stupid I was and gave it a shot. And even though I only have 3 really good games out of the 5 I own (And in my Opinion they're the only good games the system currently has.) I feel I got my moneys worth. After all, I have 7 DS games with only 3 of them being really good to me. Opinion: The upcoming lineup for the DS totally owns the PSP's library in terms of fun, IMHO. Fact: Both will be here for a while, and both will have huge libraries by the end of next year, so if you have both, you really have no reason to complain. And I don't, because I know that if a new fun game comes out for either, I won't have to cry because a system I don't have has a game I want. And that's a good feeling.
  23. Foot missions aside, I could be persuaded to pick up Assault if it were at most $30. $20 if they're lucky. Too bad I haven't seen any EBGames.com special deals like when I got Metroid Prime 2 for $20. That game's still $50 as well, but damn, I wasn't about to turn down a $30 price drop. Question. About how much of Assault is foot missions? Please tell me it's only a little Star Fox is supposed to be a game with you flying in SPACE. In Arwings. With the occasional land mission in a tank. But take away the vehicle and you have Jet Force Gemini, a game I'd much rather play as itself, not as part of a totally different game genre. *sigh* I fear we'll never have a new Star Fox game that recaptures the charm the original two had. Speaking of, if only Rare had put themselves to more use this generation by maybe bringing us a new JFG instead of the Grabbed by the Ghoulies they did.
  24. I want a real remake of the original Dragon Warrior. Then I'll die happy. With the names kept the same. Locations the same. Just update it graphically, that's all I ask. No moving stuff around. No changing it to make it easier. Or harder. Forget the Final Fantasy series, DW was the first RPG I ever played and aside from the Mario RPG franchise, the only one I care about. (Only the first ones of course, none of the newer ones or the Monsters games.)
  25. Thanks for the info. Here's hoping a sequel is conceived that includes the other two RT's, both Pole Positions and Dragon Spirit. Maybe some of the rest of the Pac-Man games. Oh, and BTW. After spending some time with it, Bosconian is growing on me. Very very fun. Got a high score of 25,650. One pet peeve is the blue border around the screen. I wish they'd made it black or darker so as not to distract so much. Even better had they made it look like the arcade cabinet would.
