  1. Well I just had to give this a try. I used MakeAtr to rip some of my orignal Mypicodos-MyDos 16meg ATR's to local drive [folders]. Then emptied two SpartaDos ATR's with Emulator [16meg] copied over MSDOS43.COM & MSINI2.COM. Typed BOOT MSDOS43.COM, and tested with Emulator. So far everything is working good on the Emulator. Then using MakeAtr again opened first SpartaDosGame.atr and loaded it full of the files from local [folders]. Renamed my PICONAME.TXT files to msdos.dat. Wrote a small basic program to change the mypicodos format to msdos.dat format on all the ATR folders. Rebooted with Emulator with SDX442(maxflash).ROM and all the files and folders are set.

I have ran quite a few of the games with the emulator and so far only two games didn't load.

Freecell.com from Flop Magazine caused a crash.

Gyruss file version caused a crash.

I was using Atirra 1.6, next I am going to copy the atr's to Sio2Sd and try these games on real hardware.

  2. Hmmm... don't forget to re-read the directory having set sort to "None". It should then come up in disk order. It's working fine in my 3.11 beta 3 copy. Perhaps Sort->None should force an automatic re-read of the folder???

Yes it does work after a disk refresh. I had not thought to do that because the other SORT options cause a refresh. Sort>None is fine the way it is without a refresh, probably not used often.

IF you could also change (take out) the Beta startup screen in the current BETA 3.11v3 the icons would still be usable. Name it 3.11vI 'for icons'.

  3. I'll be releasing the final 3.11 version next week. The only other disk based version will be a stripped-down text editor at some point; release date unspecified.

    Great news,

I recently was using this version [bETA], and notice that the Directory Sort function NONE doesn't have any effect on either DOS SpartaDOS or MyDOS.

Just wondering if this is an effect of the [bETA] or will it be non functional in the final release.

  4. I'm not aware of any 100K resistors in any upgrades, or any modifications of any kind that use a 100K value. Might it be 1.0K? Do you have the upgrade instructions?

    Bob

OK, it is a 100 ohm resistor. No instructions as I had the 1200xl Modified by Atarimax[Classics]. But adding just the chroma to Pin 5 on an unmodified 1200xl I still don't get anything visible on my LCD tv. If I turn off the TV I see a short flicker of the screen displayed. All my 800xl's Modified with just the chroma pin connected with a 100 ohm resistor have a visible screen. But none of the 1200's will allow the LCD to see the display.

So I was wondering if the 1200xl drives the luma pin with a value that the LCD will not interpret[decode].??

  5. Make sure SHIFT is pressed first then holding shift down press F5, and if you don't need basic press shift + option then F5. There is a file program that will swap basic in and out on one of my disks I will see if I can find it and post here..If you don't already have it..

  6. The resistors look correct, but all my 1200XLs work without them - just looks better if you terminate with 75ohms. What s-video mods did you do? What do you see on the LCD?

    Bob

I have the original svideo mod [pre ClearPic 2002]. I see a black screen with the LCD tv, on the 1702 I have a very chrisp image using Luma Pin1, Chroma Pin5.

but ----------If I turn off the 1200xl I see a short flash of selftest screen on the LCD or dos menu if I have the drive connected.

This flash seems like very bright blurry colors.

    TIA

The red wire goes to Pin 5 of J2 with 100K ohm inline before pin..

  7. When you use s-video from an Atari on a TV, you need to terminate the signals with 75 ohm resistors. At least, the CHROMA line - best to do all three.

Just wire 75 ohms to ground for each video signal. (not audio...)

Bob would something like this work for an LCD TV. I know this is an old thread but, I recently got an LCD Tv, and I am hoping to move away from my 1702 monitor. Mainly because of the recent posts about using LCD and Svideo.

All my 800 xl/xe's work on the LCD Svideo, but not my 1200xl, and yes it has the Svideo mod.

    Thanks,

  8. Thanks Bob: you cracked the problem. icon_smile.gif

I set about raising the resistance on the chroma, first with a second 100 Ohm resistor, then a third. It quickly became apparent that artifacting was getting worse, so I backed it off by removing all the resistors, including the initial 100 Ohm resistor on the

What? I thought we were looking at the Chroma resistors.

luma pick-off. Result: artifacting almost disappeared. So in this particular case, the problem was too little chroma.

  9. How do you play a BASIC game using Altirra ???

have basic rom in the directory [or path]

    click

    SYSTEM

    click FIRMWARE

    click-----------------BASIC checked

    REBOOT with your game ATR

    SHIFT+F5

    at ready prompt type:

    RUN "D:my favorite basic game.BAS

  10. Hi,

Will you ever be adding the 5200 option to the line up of available OS's and runnable Carts? Not that I will need it, but since I am running Altirra almost 100% now since version 1.5. I only keep Atariwin plus 4.0 around now for the odd 5200 cart use. I use also Jum52_Win32 occasionally for 5200 games.

  11. Hi. I just recieved an Atari XE that I ordered from Ebay. Unfortunately the RF adapter sent with it was broken! Does anyone know where I can get a working one at? Also, do switch boxes from any other consoles work on the XE system? I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I have been unable to find information on this. Thank you.

use one of these things on the back of tv.

    post-10165-127319207757_thumb.jpg

and then use a rca video cable from xe to tv..

  12. Direct from emulator.com:

    [/Quote]

"Using the optional Xformer Cable with Xformer Classic (on MS-DOS only) you can directly connect Atari 810, Atari 1050, XF551, Indus GT, and Rana disk drives to your PC to transfer Atari 8-bit files and disks to your PC. Xformer Classic and Xformer Cable are no longer supported. The DOS software and instructions for building the cable are provided as-is."

This is the only reason that I ever used this emulator in the past.. I had my rana drive and printer connected to my PC, and was able to read disks and print listings.

Later I found out about APE, SIO2PC, and never looked back.
