  1. From the original question asker: "Wow. I would have never guessed. STeve is such an unremarkable name, though given it ran on the ST an obvious one. The programmer was at the Baltimore Con where I first saw it and incredibly pleasant. I am pleased to see his page with his large body of work since. Thank you so much! I can't believe you found it!" So, thanks to Calimero!
  2. On another non-Atari forum, someone posted this: "On the Atari ST, not long before it stopped being relevant, someone wrote a Word Processor that was a completely different design from everything that had come before. He wrote it using a database engine. It would scroll so fast you'd get that "wagon wheel" effect. You could select vertically as well as horizontally. It did search and replace almost instantly. All on the 8 mhz 68000. I thought it was brilliant. Then the ST disappeared and I've never been able to remember the name of the program or the programmer. I never saw anything like it again, so I assume he didn't port it to Windows or anything. Does this ring a bell to you at all? Do you have any idea what the program might have been? I believe I saw it/bought it at the Baltimore AtariCon where Dave Small literally threw Spectre cases into the audience, telling everybody who caught one that all they needed was to get the ROMS from Apple." Anyone here know what program this was?
  3. I want one to use as a prop in a film. So I don't need a working one. I'd like to buy this, but it's just too steep to use as a prop. Nice unit, though!
  4. I was thinking about something like that, but I need to type a lot, so I want the full keyboard experience. Sounds like, even though I bought an M.2 drive, I'll need to stick with housing that in an enclosure and plugging it into the USB port whenever I want to use PC mode. Such a bummer.
  5. I haven't done this yet, but I have a question. How do you select which OS to boot? Do you need to have a USB keyboard connected? Because that defeats my whole purpose. I want to use a bluetooth keyboard.
  6. I have installed Win10 on an M.2 drive and want to install it in my VCS. However, I am using a bluetooth keyboard, so in order to dual boot, I would need a physical keyboard instead, right? I don't want to do that. So I have been searching around here and see programs called Grub and reFind which install to USB sticks and is basically just a pre-boot menu so you can select the AtariOS or the Win10 drive. That sounds doable (aside from losing a USB port). But when I go to either site, my eyes glaze over. Apparently both programs are geared to those more CLI savvy than I. Is there a dead simple way to install either Grub or reFind onto a USB?
  7. My bluetooth keyboard works in Windows 10 (booting off an external drive). I'd really like to get the ChromeOS working, though.
  8. I guess the extra info I haven't pointed out yet is that I have a large living room so I need to use a bluetooth keyboard/trackpad. And it won't pair with the AtariOS. So I can't use it in the Chrome app. I need to actually boot to the ChromeOS instead.
  9. I'm able to boot to a Windows 10 image, but that's really overkill for what I need. All I have to do is run the Chrome browser and Google Sheets. Which is why I thought the ChromeOS would be perfect. But I can't seem to get it to work.
  10. When I try methods 1 and 3, after Etcher creates the drive, I get a ton of drive errors.
  11. I have been able to change my BIOS password and disable secure boot in order to use an alternate OS from a thumb drive. I'm trying to get ChromeOS to work but am having a lot of issues. I have a few posts spread here and on FB and I thought I'd consolidate them into one thread instead. So, here goes...! Initially I tried this method and it didn't work. https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/download-google-chrome-os-and-run-on-a-real-computer/ Then I tried the Cloud Ready method straight from the VCS site and it gets stuck on the Cloud Ready screen (before the login), but at least it booted to the stick. https://www.neverware.com/freedownload#home-edition-install I just tried yet another method and it doesn't even boot, much like the first method. https://www.minitool.com/news/google-chrome-operating-system.html So any advice would be appreciated!
  12. Thanks to Tidus79001 I was able to change my BIOS password. But PC Mode does not work for me. Any tips? Also, any BIOS settings I should change?
  13. I've seen different "celebrate" passwords online. Is it? Atar!C3l3br8te$40Ye4rs$ Atar!C3l3brte$50Ye4rs$ Atar!C3l3br8$50Ye4rs$
  14. I don't see how a BIOS password could possibly work after a few days.
  15. Long time Atarian, new to the Black Walnut VCS as of yesterday. I have the .23 BIOS and no passwords work. I see there is a fix to downgrade the BIOS. How do I do that, please?
  16. I wrote files to my SD card, so it's not write protected. I tried the same file from a TNFS server - it wouldn't boot if in Write mode but would boot in Read mode. So that must be the issue somehow.
  17. I just loaded Defender from fujinet.pl read-only and it works. It seems my unit will not run if the disks are set to read/write.
  18. I tried the Print Shop disks from the SD card and they didn't work with Write mode on. But did work with Read mode on. Is that the culprit? Does FujiNet not work with Write mode disks? If not, why have that as an option?
