Custom Dust Covers for Classic Consoles/11/23/17 Happy Holidays!
e5frog replied to oldjd's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
That sucks, I hope Barb will keep on making these cherished covers, seems to be very appreciated and maybe a good extra income as well. Maybe -^Cro§Bow^- can help keeping things going. I have three Channel F and one Atari 2600 cover - very very pleased, no dust in those machines, embroidering looks great. -

Three cartridges left in this batch, as the boards I have left are less visual pleasing (more or less marks on the golden edge connector) I decided to sell these for $99 - worldwide standard shipping included (registered is extra). After that I will take a pause in cartridge making until there's enough interest for a new batch (which usually means 3-5 orders). -

I've had a bit of bad luck arranging with shipping boxes for my current waiting customers, seems I need to make a complaint to the official complaint board about it, money paid but no shipping boxes arrived. So... in the spirit of season I thought I should offer two Multi-Carts at a lower price, I also offer a Pac-Man themed Multi-Cart at the same price. The latter has the Pac-Man box and labels and cartridge will start Pac-Man by default unless a key is held down to get into the Multi-Cart menu. I will order new shipping boxes, finish these two in a few days and then the two guys waiting as well as these two carts will ship within a week, so no weeks or months of waiting before shipping. Thanks for helping out - you can always sell it on eBay if your wife doesn't let you keep it. I decided $99 was a fair price for both of us, I don't really make anything but at least I get all carts shipped. So.. currently only: $99 for a Multi-Cart -
I fixed one of those lately, even if this is an old post it might be a good idea to post it here. If the carbon trace is worn you can use the original to fix it by cutting off the circular part with the carbon trace and silver paint - it's a separate part in the "sandwich". Then you can cut off a long enough part with the silver paint and then polish the silver paint off - leaving it with the carbon trace still there. You now have a piece to replace the damaged one, glue it in place with epoxy and then use conductive silver paint to tie it to terminals again. Here are some images, I'm not sure how long they'll last: Remove glitchy PCB-part from metal cup, use a screwdriver and pliers to bend the metal grabbers. You can see the carbon layer has been worn down. Cut off the carbon layered part. Carefully polish away the silver paint, use car polish, toothpaste or similar. You want to keep the carbon layer - don't overdo it!! Cut off a long enough piece to replace the usable area. Glue the fresh carbon layer piece to the proper position, I used a thin layer of epoxy. Paint with conductive silver paint so you get contact. Use the conductive paint over the edge, several layers, wait until fully dry check measurement about 10kOhm - and you're back in business. While experimenting I used a second potentiometer, but it's not necessary to do anything else than what is described here.

Yes, I have a few more shells, things are moving a bit slower during summer though, so no "over night" deliveries... -

Pictures or it didn't happen. Remember to try another TV, or adjust yours, you can't play without the dots showing everywhere and Pac-Man being half. Search for "service menu " and your tv model if it's a newer one (if it has On Screen Menus) or open the back and find some pots to carefully turn. -

Made (and sold) my first Pac-Man Multi, Multi-Cart with Pac-Man labels, box, instructions - it starts up as Pac-Man unless you use the secret reset (that is printed on the back label). Might be a bit more fun than a regular Multi-Cart. If anyone's looking to get a Multi-Cart in the shape of basically any other reproduction cart, it's quite possible to arrange that, for example a #25, #19, Democart 2 or other odd one to fill a gap in the collection. Haven't scouted for any large quantities of shell donors yet, but I also have no waiting orders at the moment, so no panic there. I have some Vectrex matters to attend to at the moment - now that I brought the PC back from the latest crash/lockup/hardware failure. -

I'm considering making a Pac-Man themed Multi-Cart that has Pac-Man box and labels and will start as Pac-Man unless you hold button 1 when resetting - then you'll land in the Multi-Cart menu and it will run as a normal Multi-Cart. Anyone interested to get one of those? -

I have one more Pac-Man cart that I might put on eBay - unless someone here is interested? It's number -22... I was also considering making a Pac-Man themed Multi-Cart that has Pac-Man box and labels and will start as Pac-Man unless you hold button 1 when resetting - then you'll land in the Multi-Cart menu and it will run as a normal Multi-Cart. -

C16 is the same shape as VIC-20 and C64 breadbin - so not much extra effort there if you just write Commodore on them. -
Fairchild Channel F Repair - Help Request
e5frog replied to KylJoy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yes the controller wires are quite thin, not many strands in each wire. I have fixed a few, it's not that hard to drill (or use a milling bit - very handy) out the old cable insulation from the strain relief, thread wire through it and when done soldering fasten the cable with a small zip tie inside the controller. It's possible to leave the cables soldered in the controller and make joints in the same position using shrink tube on each of them, it will save a few inches of wire. This is a Video Command stick but they don't differ that much. You could make three joints under the base plate plastic (where the stick attaches on the bottom) then three straight after and three a little above them - so you don't have all the jounts in the same place as it will get quite thick. If not going for that approach I recommend taking a few pictures of the mounting then desolder wires from the controller and strip the wires of the cable to the same length and follow the same path as before. This is the way I usually do it unless the cable is really short already. It would be possible to buy a plain joystick extension cord from eBay and solder that in, it's however guaranteed not to have the same color order so make sure you measure and solder correctly. -
FOUND IT!! Here's the thread with the successful mod: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/255438-fairchild-channel-f-model-1-av-mod-help/

Fairchild Channel F Repair - Help Request
e5frog replied to KylJoy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Are you sure the IC:s you have swapped are bad, could be the socket or oxidation on the chip pins. Good work! -
In general it's a matter of isolating the composite signal from the RF part, then adjust the signal levels to work by itself. You need enough amplitude but also starting at the proper level. Don't know of any kits or finished instructions on how to do it. Video could probably be improved by adding a video IC with filters etc but it should be possible to get a good result with one or two transistors and a few resistors. I did mark some things up on a PAL board a while ago, not that you'll have much use of it. I can only refer to the things already posted here and the schematics: http://channelf.se/veswiki/index.php?title=Schematics I think there's another thread here on this topic, I seem to recall posting the reverse engineered Bomarc schematics as well. If you have the old version you should locate the composite signal where it says "VIDEO SHT 1" on this schematic: http://channelf.se/veswiki/images/0/04/FVE_schematic_sheet_2_of_3.png That's what goes into the RF circuitry and has all needed parts of the composite signal, just not the proper levels. I think I got this from another guy trying to video mod (it will get bigger if you click it):

e5frog replied to e5frog's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
If you bought something you're free to sell it any price you'd like. It started at $99 or something, you don't know how much people will bid. Isn't it nice to know your Pac-Man carts are worth at least double what you paid? Unfortunately I can't bid myself as seller only ships to the US and Canada. ... it's tempting to wrap one up and sell on eBay - even if eBay holds the money for ransom (for about a month) until buyer gets it and leaves feedback. -

Thank you Supergun. I'm currently out of donor carts, but I'm keeping a look out. If you have a collection and a bunch of low value spares with good condition plastic, let me know, I might be interested in buying. -

Thank you! I have parts for one more, if anyone's interested, then I'd need to order more PCB:s and components, which will take a few orders and 1-2 months delivery time. So grab one now if you have thought about it. -
