Recently Windows rebooted at a inconvenient time after updating causing my D drive partition table to corrupt so that Windows saw it as RAW DATA instead of NFTS. I found THIS handy link afterwards: How to Disable Automatic Restart in Windows 8.1, Windows 8 or Windows 7 http://blog.laptopmag.com/disable-automatic-restart-windows

@Soulblazer, believe me so do I, that was not the issue in this case, I manually chose to look for updates, downloaded and installed some, rebooted and all seemed well, a few days after the fact however in the middle of doing other things windows just "rebooted" unexpectedly, during the reboot it said Windows was finishing installing some updates showing the percentage countdown, it was quick but upon reboot my D drive was RAW DATA.
