Oh the 5200, I love that big bastard😂 I mean isn’t the 5200 trackball accessory alone the same footprint as a 7800?

Is the ball in these typically that yellowish color when new? After seeing images in some recent topics I decided to dig mine out of storage, forgot what great condition mine was in and about the only thing I have that also still has the clear plastic on the aluminum strip (MUST RESIST REMOVING 😛) I really need to try this accessory more as it seems to be in excellent shape however, I noticed like many pictured the ball seems discolored yellowish, looking up images online it seems it WAS originally white? If it should be white might look into brightening or SHOULD I BOTHER? Is it more trouble than it is worth? I only lightly tested it upon receiving the 5200 / games etc in a lot years ago. I should do more testing and also maybe give it some maintenance if required. ANY GOOD TUTORIALS or videos on that? Also, I may have posted similar at one time but my memory is not getting any better 😛 Still, thanks in advance for any / all replies.....IF anyone or a mod notices I am repeating this post just merge it or point me in the direction of original post.

Totally agree as I still use a Xbox360 controller for my PC, two standard AA batteries are great high capacity and easily replicable. Admittedly though we have a area in the Condo parking to dispose of all batteries for proper recycling, you see where this is going, I check it regularly bringing my battery checker and so I have a lifetime supply pretty much of all the most common batteries and YES I some of the time I even find rechargeable! I've not bought batteries for years. 😜😂

Love the kitty avatar with that sweet, sweet sweater
Thank you man, that avatar, someone else, Scott on Facebook aka Corporal Coleco on Youtube sent me that and as a joke I used it as my Facebook profile pic, since then one lady in particular will even message me within a couple months of Christmas asking "Is it time yet? is it time for the Christmas cat sweater pic?" 😂 ah hell, who knows what makes people happy, if that stupid pic brings even a slight grin to her so be it, I set it every year now 😆 Have a great holiday and hope we all get back to a shred of normality in 2021 (not TOO normal though 😛)

Then you say "this could make or break my loyalty towards Big Sexy" if someone doesn't fix the asteroids controls. I mean aren't you the one that started this "serious thread?" I'm confused.
He is referring to a different thread (see below) , not THIS one, it is a thread that has been suggested to him a couple times by Shawn and most recently by myself in my last reply to him in this thread as the place for him to drop all his ideas / dreams / wishes instead of starting separate ones in various places of the forum. It was a thread more suitable for his....requests. It was started back in 2006 by a totally different member for the specific purpose of having a single place for such things.

You might be on to something there, on the right handheld might even make it better than the current AtGames Atari Flashback Portable Game Player....barely. 😛

I do realize I need to let everything be whatever it is and just get along with all of you guys, one thing I just CANNOT do is alienate any of my fellow Atarians with my comments.
See that is the problem, these words do not match your actions. if you MEAN IT then just STOP. What you call "lobbying" most would call pestering, it's tiresome. You may have taken it jokingly but literally the link SHAWN keeps posting for you is where you need to post (IF YOU MUST) all these ideas/dreams/wishes/wants that you have,
here it is AGAIN https://atariage.com/forums/topic/82555-to-all-non-programmer-idea-peddlers/ THAT is the thread for people with all the "ideas" but with either no skill or desire to attempt do it themselves. And by THAT I mean drop your idea there and just WAIT, don't bump it constantly looking for updates / results, either it will be considered OR NOT.

He does, BY HIS OWN ADMISSION though stated in a different way, which is fine, but the excuses only go so far when he is constantly being told over and over to cut it out or submit his ideas through the proper channels. Honestly I've no desire to see him banned or put in a time out but he is wearing out his welcome quickly so I hope he heeds the advice that has been given, maybe take some deep breaths and just take a step back. I actually appreciate his enthusiasm, it's clear how passionate he is about it all but I would hate him to burn bridges that take him to what may be one of the few things he truly enjoys.

I had JUST seen that video elsewhere and was going to post it. I do find it interesting. Does this mean one does not even particularly need the specific console to enjoy all the great and magical things Atari OS offers 🤨🤔😀? Might anyone enjoy it using these methods on ANY low end linux box or perhaps single board computer? Does this make the actual AtariVCS console even more irrelevant? Or was this whole thing faked by some horrible TROLL HATER? 😛 THE MIND BOGGLES !!!!

Ah OK I zoomed in watching the whole video, seems like just a diagnostics test program but it may leads to more.

Interesting, I have tried some searching but cannot find more info, do you have specifics on exactly what debug mode allows in this instance? Will for example, it allow the addition of more games to be added ? Any info on the debug mode options would be appreciated thanks.

Don't think so, you need the boot disc as it sends the command to stop the disc spindle from turning after loading the boot info, thus allowing you to well, "Swap Discs". I have one myself along with the Swap Magic discs.
To make use of a top loading console to play backups you simply need the boot discs BUT that said, I believe you can load the same SWAP DISC type of program directly from a memory card but I do not have much experience with that.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Public forums about an ATARI product is open to any comments or criticism, please stop with the "victim" mentality or is it just good old attention whoring? You don't get it your way because your feelings are hurt or you are defensive or need to defend your investment, whichever applies in your case. You want to cry and whine "LEAVE US ALONE, LET US LIKE THE VCS!" but really, if you like it, if you are ultimately satisfied with your "investment" then good for you, continue to do so and well., when you eventually get it, enjoy it and stop worrying about others that do not share your enthusiasm. Whether of not you want to be "corrected" or "educated" about it is totally UP TO YOU, you can ignore these comments or posts that don't support your view but guess what? YOU DON'T get to dictate others responses, views or opinions about the product or the people behind it. Seriously the only one keeping you from enjoying the VCS in peace is YOU 😉 If what other people say about it affects you so much you may want to rethink your priorities or where you choose to spend your time because Atariage is NOT your personal safe space where the only view of AtariVCS is sunshine and rainbows and compliments. If you post content in any form it will be judged and challenged, accept it but learn to deal with it.

The VCS is an Atari-badged PC that runs Linux ports. If you simply looked at its parts list or schematics, you'd never know is was meant as a game-playing device. The VCS doesn't meet the definition of a console, in my opinion, Atari-branded or otherwise.

2 hours ago, MrBeefy said:Yep that is the collector mindset (stupid collectors to be clear) IF that exact same device did not have an Atari logo, cheap woodgrain casing and the ATARI brand attached they would laugh their asses of and ridicule this device and call it out for what it is. The funniest part is when mentioning the negatives or the failures of this product being told by people half my age that I am an ATARI HATER! or I know nothing about Atari etc,. HAHAHAHA I fucking lived it, loved it, still have multiple original 2600 and compatible consoles in my "collection", the difference is I keep a grip on reality, I don't give a pass or act like a fanboy because a couple investors stuck an Atari branding on an overpriced and underwhelming Linux box.😆😛
It's like 8 year old's claiming to be ATARI fans because they bought a T-shirt at hot topic except in this case it's more 20-30+ FANBOYS that will buy anything crapped out that claims to be the company currently holding the rights to Atari. They are the equivalent to those SNL parody Star Wars fans who buy everything related to sit on their shelves instead of it actually being played with and enjoyed. No doubt a few will even insist they now use this as their main console / computer and it is everything they were hoping for when in reality they are crying but they just cannot admit it. 😛Already seen posts in groups and forums "SEE HATERS? IT SHIPPED!, IT'S REAL etc, etc," which is funny that is all they took away from complaints when in fact MOST people never denied it would eventually ship "something" but just that what will be received is nothing special. Congrats backers you got you show piece that is useless."ATARI" had no intention except to "BARELY" fulfill their obligation by the least amount. The initial project, funding etc, was done in hopes that they would be BOUGHT OUT BY A BIGGER COMPANY, this was practically admitted by the people behind it ,except that did not happen and so they can only barely fulfill the promise enough to keep them out of legal trouble and have no other interest in support or long term development. The blind Atari fanboys do not get this, they don't want to, that comment you posted by the guy "WHO CARES IT'S AN AWESOME CONSOLE is the perfect poster child for these morons.

1- Device is released, everyone who bought one gets it.
2- YouTube goes nuts for two weeks while every shill talks about how cool it is, and creates "hacking" videos that are indistinguishable from Raspberry Pi projects.
3- Atari almost immediately stops acknowledging the project, claims the shipped units are "a special gift for the true fans" or some garbage, and casts doubt that there will be a second run.
4- Five diehard fans continue to tinker with it endlessly. No one else cares.
5- A year later, Atari announces another cash grab. The cycle begins anew.
