1450 XLD motherboard build, assorted questions
JohnBuell replied to Vandal968's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
That's leaving me speechless! WAY TO GO! -
I don't remember seeing the "ridged" or "tabbed" until I got Chip's Challenge in 1990, and the curved later that year I think. And just for giggles, have a look at US Patent D339577.

Mmmmm, 1029s.... Sorry. -
What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?
JohnBuell replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I was watching it too... didn't even try to bid, though. Yeah I had it in my watch list, and as soon as the bids started to go crazy I knew it was "sit back and watch" time. -
Yes, the Dark Crystal has 3 disks, two sides per disk (or 6 virtual disks). I have a copy of the retail floppies somewhere.

Yes, but the real question is who will get post #2600 ??? Well we now know the answer to that, don't we? -
Does anyone have an idea why one of these would work with Activision's Decathlon but not the Track & Field cartridge itself?
-
Good thing I downloaded new copies a couple of weeks ago when I switched to a new HTC for personal use from the one work gave me (and yes I deleted Droid800 from the Evo before I gave it back. ).

For display during VCF Midwest next month. Plus I guess it helped lock one down for someone who WILL use it and build on it *shrug*

Is that one of your famous mods, Bob? -
I REALLY shouldn't have hesitated. Oh well. At least I got to see one all up close and personal.

Well, now everybody knows. I'm the sucker person who ordered the last one. I'm not keeping it though, as my soldering skills are atrocious (and to which my wife can attest, not to mention the big scar on top of my left hand). Anyway, this board is already spoken for - someone else will be taking it off my hands and trying to make magic out of it. The photos are all of of my new HTC Inspire phone, not bad, but not the most clear either.

Got a BIN for a Track and Field cartridge from one user and another BIN for the controller from someone else. Still paid less than the one person who has a complete package is asking for it. I'm going for a nearly complete set of Atari branded controllers (I have two of the keypads the CX21 and CX50, but I'm putting off buying the children's one (CX23), the blue version of the same thing as the other two, for right now). -
Belated congratulations candle! Our little girl is almost four months old already....

Not Atari related, but I remember reading how Hasbro had sold off some of its toy molds to other companies in the 1990s, then came to regret it when the retro scene picked up. Supposedly there are knock-off GI Joe 3" figures out there that have the old Hasbro house logo on their belt, just like the originals. Oops.

Cassettes that play sound while they load.

Ok so I have Ma (algebra), Mf, Mm, Mn, SP and W. Oh and these are all on the outer cases of the blue Dorsett binders, in the lower right hand corner. All of them have 8 tapes, so lessons 1-16. -

The boxes look familiar. From the list posted earlier, I know I have the Electronics and Physics... in a box somewhere. I thought it was chemistry, but I'm fairly sure now I was confusing it with the physics tape. I'm not sure what else I have as I boxed all that up at least a couple decades ago. Yeah they obviously only made one box and slapped different stickers on them per included program. -

It's whichever series the vocabulary was part of. I'll look up the codes for all of them when I get home. -

I was thinking of mounting an SIO2SD in one of the bays instead of a drive, but the sandwich idea is a good one. Looks like there'd be room for an entire loaf in there. In fact - fit a breadbin. Reminds me of the very first G4 Apple XServe I worked with - the Engineers would jokingly say that you could use the empty drive bays for heating Pop Tarts. Never tried.... -

Ok, here's what I have from Dorsett (8 tapes each unless specified otherwise: Reading Comprehension Level 5-6 (I'm assuming these corresponded to some kind of US Public School standards once upon a time) Spelling (now I'm interested in finding out if that's a duplicate of the original Talk & Teach Spelling they produced) Mathematics Level 4-8 (same note as above) Mathematics Level 1-6 (there is a lot of overlap in the Mathematics series) Mathematics Level 4-6) Basic Algebra - again, this duplicates a title from the original Atari branded series, so I wonder if it's the same material. Oh one other thing: All of the Dorsett branded sets have "practice materials" (various question and answer sheets) which I don't think any of the Atari branded sets have. -

Vandal, stupid question, but what will you use for a case? Carve holes into the 1200xl case? -

That's part of the Talk and Teach system. I just noticed I missed a batch of 16 of them on eBay. Dang it. And they were all tapes I didn't have. If anyone wants to loan or sell theirs to me, I'll see about getting started with recordings. Knowing how things go, the ones I have are ones you already have. I really need to dig out more of my Atari stuff. I've been getting by with just my 65XE and an SIO2SD. I've got the original cassette version of Necromancer as well. I made a program to make a DOS file from the cassette at one point so I could play it from floppy instead of cassette (it took a LONG time to load!). Photo of my 5 sets of Atari cassettes U.S. History, U.S. Government, Basic Psychology, Basic Sociology and Spelling. And for the Dorsett branded ones, I've got math and some of their reading sets, in blue cases that are more reminiscent of the foreign language series.
