i setup a wireless sio2pc for someone. i used a bluetooth adaptor and a regular serial sio2pc cable, without the voltage conversion, and stuck it in a A8 brown cart...
worked fine up to about 20', but i didnt test it any farther...
sloopy.
So something like any of the micro Bluetooth/USB adapters you can get online for about $10? How would you do file to file transfer though, or did you basically set it up as Bluetooth for Atari with keyboard and mouse?

Someone posted to a Facebook group I'm a member of for "classic computers" very early this morning, putting forward the idea of somehow using the EyeFi cards (SD compatible memory with small wireless transmitters) to create a wireless network adapter for classic computers. I've been thinking about his post, and I wonder if there's possibly a way to do just that, only instead of reading/writing to virtual disks (as SDrive and similar do right now), wouldn't it have to go through a virtual serial device? The base model card seems to be selling for US$50, and includes 4 GB for an SDHC interface. Now granted, it looks like the way you set it up is to give it your wireless network key, which it stores in its flash memory just for the wi-fi portion, and then it can send/receive to a linked computer. But I'd think, especially since it comes with a USB reader, that there must be a way to change that into full 2-way communication to your wireless router, thus bypassing the "linked computer"?
Thoughts?

I hadn't seen anyone post about this yet, but I WILL be there again this year, with as many Atari 8 bits as I can fit into my car!
The main site is www.vcfmw.org

Any chance anyone will be bringing these to any US shows? Or selling them to us Yanks so we can display them?

-
Nice! Now I wish I had an original myself!

-
Mine came today too! Thanks for everything you've done for this, Eric!

Also, how does the card fit? Snug? Tight? Does it feel fragile to try to get it out again? Any preference of Lynx 1 vs 2? I'm seeing 2 chips on the back, which is why I'm asking all these questions.

I've appreciated everyone who has taken the time and given some advice to me on the 800XL I attempted to do video mods on. It still doesn't produce a video signal, though audio is clearly working in self-test mode and with BASIC. So, is there anybody out there who would be willing to take a look at it in person? In other words, that I could ship the thing to, get a diagnosis, see if it can be mended, then pay you for your time and return postage?

WHOA, wait? I thought I was on a later list. Where did THAT memo go?

Payment forthcoming!

I've just read through this whole thread, and I've come to similar conclusions - I'm not paying $60 if it's not from Legacy, and I think I'll stick to portable Atari gaming through the Chrome browser (or my Lynx, but that's different).

I always find it funny when the Germans ask for something to be marked as 'Gift' (it means poison for those of you who don't know).
Eric, I'd like to be put on the 2nd run list for a boxed copy, if still possible.

Frankly I prefer the Last Starfighter version. I think it has better gameplay. You have the destroyers, fighters, and the motherships to defend from, you can ONLY recharge in close proximity to a star (SR2 gives starbases - you CAN recharge around a star, but it's VERY fast, and hard to get away in time!). I just wish they'd found a way to do the Death Blossom.

Thanks everyone for your input. I was thinking about doing it just for the novelty (I don't even HAVE an XF551, yet...) But you've pretty much talked me out of modding it when I get one...
-
I've seen the kits, I even saw a modded XF551 on eBay recently...
But does anyone actually still SELL the kits, or do the modifications?
Just curious.

GEEZE, doesn't anyone use flatbed scanners anymore?

-
I'd be afraid of losing a drive that small, and the microSD card with it!
Still freaking cool though

Going back to the mods on the first page of this topic, can anyone shed some light on what tools I could use to figure out where I went wrong? Like I said, the 800XL will start up and play sound, but there's NO VIDEO at all. I have a handheld multimeter, but I'm sure I could get my hands on some other testing tools. What numbers should I be looking for at which spots on the board?
-
Actually, what's the point? You KNOW it would never be comfortable.... The decor I can see some features of - I have a pair of Apple Key cufflinks pulled from laptop keyboards.

-
I take it yours is a different version of the ROM that isn't generally available to the public? I'll be interested to see how this plays out (yes, pun intended).
-
This just gets better and better. I'm sorry I'm no help at all with code or ideas, but I'm having a lot of fun watching the progress made in this thread.
HA! Love the icons for the splash. Boy does THAT take me back.

Here's another vote for the 1010, orange label! Those are the ones made in Japan. It took me buying THREE different 410s before I could get one to work, recently, I got a silver label 1010 and it wasn't as good. The orange 1010 I've had since the 80s and it's not given me ANY trouble. You can find XC12s in great shape, but I don't like the lack of power adapter, and having to have them at the end of the SIO chain. I have also tried a GE DataRecorder, and found out something interesting - it doesn't play back voices on tapes that support it! So any of the educational tapes that exist for the Atari are unusable on the GE.
The GE is Mono, which is why you don't get the audio tracks...
And out of all my tape decks the 1010's all still work for me
Well I figured that, I was just surprised it didn't SAY that anywhere.

Just for giggles, I searched tonight for "atari" items on Etsy, which naturally brings up a bunch of unrelated stuff, but someone's making "atari chip pendants" out of...what looks to me like stripped 8-bit cart circuit boards! ARGH! How many carts have given their lives....
Of course there are other Etsy users out there making journals out of old game (2600/8-bit) manuals and catalogs....

What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?
