Eric, if you don't mind my asking, are you able to create a manual based on original documents? I.e. when you got all of your materials for EOTB, did it include the rough drafts of the documentation as it was being written? I'm just curious. If you want to make me wait until you're closer to a release, I can understand that too.

Huh, does that mean the Touch Me's are going for a high price too?

Stock 800XLs do not have the chroma line hooked up to the monitor jack so that's why you have black and white with that machine. I have the board configured for chrom / luma input because it yields a much better picture. Anyway, adding the chroma line is actually quite easy, jut one wire and a resistor. Adding a s-video port to the back of the interface is posssible. In fact, I did that for someone else instead of having the 5 pin DIN cable as the input. I am not sure why you would need a switch because RGB is the output, regardless of which kind of input you are using. In other words, the input to the interface IS s-video, I am just taking the signals from the 5 pin video jack in the Atari computer. I am also taking the audio signal and just sending it to the audio input on the SC1224 in n order to use the built in speaker. I can make you a short cable that will plug onto the end of the existing 5 pin DIN cable and that will give you a standard s-video and audio input. Oooooh, that would be cool! I'll take you up on that! I'm having fun with this

So, I got mine from puppetmark the other day, (Thank you thank you!), got my SC1224 out of storage, and I'll be dipped if I can't tell what company actually manufactured the thing. Oh well. Anyway, I've tried this with a pair of 800XLs, and just got b/w. Bummer. I'm going to dig up one of my XE's and try that next puppetmark, since I've got a stock 130XE and a 65XE with Svideo mod, how easy would it be to add an svideo port to the back, run the wires, and some kind of switch on the back to go between svideo/RGB? Just a simple SPST switch between signal wires?

Got mine earlier in the week, and I've been fiddling with it and the Monitor adapter I got from puppetmark and an SC1224 monitor. Sadly I'm only getting b/w from the 1200XL and my main 800XL. But I wanted to add to the chorus: "Thank YOU Bob!"

What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?
JohnBuell replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Just picked up a Hong Kong 800XL (my main one is from Taiwan, I can't tell the difference ), GE Tape Recorder with adapters for Commodore or Atari, several CIB cartridge games and one CIB cassette game. -
I'm up for a copy too! This is really cool finding these games and that they're already in some playable form!

Sent mine off today!

And probably a good sign that Apple isn't going to use the name for one of their OS X versions.

Atari 8-bit Ethernet and Contiki - Want your help!

How are you testing your code against Contiki right now? -

Nice, that's a complete set of the US History tapes. You'll need the Education Master Cartridge (or a flashed ROM image of same) to see the graphics on the screen, but if you just want to listen to history lectures, they should play just fine. -

Questions about the physical SIO connector
JohnBuell replied to UNIXcoffee928's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Molex is a company that manufactures a lot of different electronic connectors, etc. www.molex.com Their corporate office is about a half hour away from my house, in Lisle, IL. Hmm, maybe they'd let me check a library of old catalogs if they have them? -
Pretty much all of us Aw, crap. Okay, for everybody else, I hope someone discovers a lost warehouse of 1400XLs or 1450XLDs and they send me one. How's that?

Alright, here we go: Dear Santa, I would like Chickybaby to feel better and come hang out here often again. I would like Preppie!!'s dad to get better. I would like my wife's parents to win the lottery or Publishers Clearinghouse or something, so they can live comfortably and not freak out about money (her mom just got laid off after 35 years at the same job). I would like my wife's pregnancy to go all the way to the due date without a hitch. I hope and pray that our child has better vision than both parents, and is spared the asthma, allergies, anxiety, depression, acid-reflux and anything else that its parents suffer. I hope my parents find some kind of middle ground for living together so they aren't so miserable approaching retirement. Did I miss anybody?

Atari 8-bit Ethernet and Contiki - Want your help!

what I know of being worked on now: - Text based web browser - Webserver - Telnet client - Email client What is possible for the future: -FTP client -IRC client -Multi-player game support I am hoping once the hardware is finished that others will do some coding for it. There is a lot of potential here, and as I have said before, this is something the 8-bit Atari has needed for some time. Oh that's awesome news. I might even look into porting a MUD client. Wouldn't that be a kick? -
Other people are worried about an old unreleased Mustang or an old unreleased Caddy, We're talking about CARS here, nothing more..... its the same fascination only other type of "thing" Regards Matthias Except that you don't usually find the plans to build a complete concept car on your own and find a way to release it to the masses. As far as software secrecy goes? I blame Apple.

If you had, a YouTube video of its operation would now be compulsory. -

Just like the listing said. Limited production run for devs to use before regular production started, which it never did. New discoveries of vaporware from Atari don't surprise me in the least anymore. I do remember reading about the CD-ROM drive back when it was originally going to be sold, though. Ah, but do any still exist in North America? I noticed this one was configured for 240V. -
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 130454978103 I had NEVER seen an Atari-branded CD-ROM until I came across that a couple nights ago. Way too rich for my blood, I didn't bid at all. But I'm just curious if there's anything else known about these drives and why Atari never went the CD-ROM route after promoting it so heavily in the mid-late 1980s.

There's a listing up right now for a home made SpartaDos 4.42 cartridge. Is this a good way to get started with SpartaDos, or should I just get disks from somewhere? Oh, duh, I guess a link might help: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 110614429971

The only Atari show I ever went to, outside of user group meetings (and the one I was with still exists!), was in Germany in 1992. I've got an Atari plastic bag and a bunch of other stuff in a souvenir box somewhere....
