  1. I FINALLY got a working 410 recorder! Third time was a charm, and won't someone please log onto eBay and take the pair of dead ones off of my hands? :)

Actually what's more interesting, to me, in this haul, is the Alphacom 42 direct connect thermal printer. And it works too!

But the 410 and Alphacom are both "end of daisy chain" devices, so now I'm in the market for SIO port expansion....

  2. The only way I know to tell for freddie is to crack it open...

Is there a particular reason you want a freddie chip onboard? I have three pal machines... Rev B, Rev C and Rev C w/Freddie... So far I've not found anything I can throw at any of them that wont work on all three

Well to the best of my knowledge the 800XLFs were NOT advertised or marked on the outside as XLFs, right? You just have to crack open the case and SURPRISE! It'd be something else _potentially_ to add to the collection. Maybe.

Exactly, and being that they are not labeled as such the only one who would know it was in your collection is you... Personally I see no reason to own one over a non freddie model.

Very good point. I guess I should be happy my 800XE seems to be working. :)

  4. I dont stress the super rare stuff, I know I'll never afford an MIO or Black Box... I just buy stuff that catches my eye or stuff I am missing from my childhood (I lost spy hunter on cart as well as some red rat disk software when I moved here to the states - that's probably all I am actively looking for)

oh, and I don't see a 1025 printer in your lineup... Ihave a spare if you need one.

I might take you up on that if I had any money at all right now. :P

  5. Okay, so B&C now say 'call' for 800XLs and 130XEs, unless you want to get one that you KNOW has a bad GTIA, in that case they are $60. So here's my question. If I think I can find a PAL 800XL on eBay, and I can ask whomever it is, if they have it connected, to type "? PEEK(43234)" and if it comes back with 234, it's Rev. C BASIC, right? Is there a similar command that can be issued from BASIC to see if FREDDIE is on board or not?

  6. Do I bother with the XE printers?

I don't know what kind or how much printing you plan on doing, but I always loved the XDM121 I had years ago. They look great with the XEs and print quality & speed is very good. I'm not sure how they've held out over the years, but mine was great for the 5 years that I and my (large) family owned and used it.

There are a couple of NIBs on eBay for $75 right now:

XDM121 (NIB): eBay Auction -- Item Number: 1404482007281?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=140448200728&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

At some point, if I can't get disks to copy to flash, I'd like everything I once wrote to be retrievable in some way shape or form, so yeah even daisy wheel - which is ideal for OCR.

  7. I know I'd like to eventually have a 1200XL and 130XE to round off the major models. A working 410 tape drive would be nice too, since I do have two 1010s (both kinds) and an XC12. And an XF551 to finish off the XE range (I'm up to 2 810s now and at least 3 1050s). But what else makes sense? How often do the "escaped" 1400 models show up on ebay, or the XLFs? For printers I've got an 820 with a cracked case (but which otherwise more or less works), an 825 and 850 boxed away somewhere, a couple 1020s that don't work and a 1027 that I seem to remember was giving me trouble... Do I bother with the XE printers? Should I find my parents old Star printer in a box where ever it might be and call it a day? What about modems? I kept an XM301 in its box after shipping one off to become my SIO2SD case, but should I get a 1030 or SX212? Should I focus on things I can display, or things people could actually use in a show, like figuring out how to assemble a multijoy? And how much do people look to get the 3rd party peripherals, like the parallel port connectors or Indus disk drives?

I mean, it'd be nice to eventually have one of everything, but with some things being so darn rare (65 XEP for example), I just don't think it's ever going to be financially feasible, so where do I cut it off?

    Thoughts?

Well, I'm not into collecting nor understand what people get out of just collecting but if you need Atari 410 tape drive, I have an extra that came with system I bought-- just pay shipping. I also have some MPX and imagewriter printers that are about to go into trash-- maybe too expensive to ship to be worth it.

Well it made sense, I thought, at the show where I displayed recently to have a 410, even if it was broken, along side an 810 and 820 for display. I'd love to have a working one for just that purpose, but until and unless the stuff I have on eBay sells, I'm dead broke at the moment.

You need to get indus gt drive for sure!

I have 2 indus GT drives and they are the best drives. Much much better then 1050s by far.

Were these the solid black drives with the flip up front smoke panel? If so my dad had one, but I have no idea where it is right now.

  10. I was able to get a nicer version of the Atari 400 (THANKS HITACHI) than the first one I'd got off eBay, so that one's up for sale again. Plus I'm selling an 800XE that works, except it needs a working GTIA chip (and that seems to be all that's wrong with it). Plus 2 410 drives and an 800XL that don't work at all. So if anyone needs parts, search for my auctions (ebay user name 'dadaist').

Dangit, I need a 800XE to complete my collection... but i bet it gets up there in price

I deliberately started EVERYTHING low because it either doesn't work or needs work or needs parts (or in the case of the A400, needs exterior cleaning).

  12. I've got the narrow carry case that I use to store my Lynx I in, a full sized carry case for the Lynx II and NiCd battery pack, and spare games and the D-Cell pack go in a second full sized carry case. That arrangement worked very well for the show I exhibited at recently. And the cartridge boxes were in a larger box, but I wound up not having the space to display them.

  13. My only comment is that I see a lot of "blocked" squares, which means there are quite a lot of adds on the site. Not the way I'd go, but hey, it's your site! :-)

Well I don't have it on its own server, yet. But I figured it'd be better to have all of the photos on display somewhere other than AtariAge and not drive Albert crazy with all of my uploading. ;)

GoDaddy is doing all of the hosting at the moment, but I'm trying to get my hands on a box I can use for web serving.

    just say no to blodaddy...

gandi.net is good as is others...

    sloopy.

Eh, I got a deal since we use them at work for domain registration. :) Eventually, I'll have it under my own roof.

  15. Yeah I had it at high school several times, and in Germany twice. Nobody batted an eyelash, as such, but the games got a lot of notice. My friend Chris was the only person I knew with a copy of Rampage until my brother got one years later. Warbirds and Checkered Flag are the only games I remember using the Comlynx for "back in the day," and I haven't played multi-player anything long since! I can't convince the wife :P Maybe the bun in the oven can be brainwashed^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H convinced. ;)
