Sign me up for one out of the new new batch, after you've had time to make and test them. I better start planning now for 2011 demos.

Sign me up pretty please with Atari on top!
-
Yeah I had it at high school several times, and in Germany twice. Nobody batted an eyelash, as such, but the games got a lot of notice. My friend Chris was the only person I knew with a copy of Rampage until my brother got one years later. Warbirds and Checkered Flag are the only games I remember using the Comlynx for "back in the day," and I haven't played multi-player anything long since! I can't convince the wife Maybe the bun in the oven can be brainwashed^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H convinced.

Atari 8-bit Ethernet and Contiki - Want your help!
JohnBuell replied to Cybernoid's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I just want to know when this will be ready for pre-order -
I'm interested to see how this turns out!

Looks like all I can find with google are photos and schematics. Guess the MultiJoy will have to wait for another show.
-
you just need a multijoy for some 8-16 player goodness NOW he tells me Does anybody build and sell these? I'm horrible with electronics.

Ride from where?

I've actually used a couple 7" monitors on a short term basis. Obviously the clearer the signal, the better the image, so if you can do any of the video signal improvement mods (e.g. s-video), you'll really notice a difference. I wasn't a believer until I saw Freecell XE on an un-modded 800XE and a S-Video modded 65XE. Some of my photos are posted in this forum somewhere

Yeah I hadn't ever seen it, or remembered seeing it until just the other evening. Fun stuff though!

So when having some friends over yesterday, we got to talking about some of my Atari gear, and I turned on one of the 800XEs I got with the SIO2SD connected, loaded up "Last Starfighter" and he really got into the game.... At one point, recharging at the sun in the Rylos' system, I noticed a familiar looking spacecraft warping by, probably doing a slingshot effect.... Anybody know anything about the appearance of the USS Enterprise? Like what specifically triggers it? Anything happen if you try to shoot at it? etc?

As you've probably been able to tell, I've just been bubbling over with excitement about getting my Atari stuff back out, making new discoveries, and getting new gear to keep it working as long as possible. So I just want to say thanks to Al and all the mods here for making AtariAge what it is and keeping it going. Thanks to Flashjazzcat for The Last Word and the AWESOME SIO2SD mods. Hats off dude, you're an electronics genius and a gentleman. Thanks to everyone who has helped with tips and encouragement. BIG BIG Thank yous to all the software/demo scene writers who surprise me on a regular basis with what they can push the hardware to do, whether stock, or with the most modest of internal/external modifications. It still "FEELS" Atari. Here's to hoping I can make you all proud at VCFMW in two weeks. I will take/post photos and video clips if I can!

I'm REALLY liking some of these video clips. Could someone send me a PM with links to actual .atr, .xex or .com files that I can run off of an actual 64K machine (again, PAL or NTSC, doesn't matter). Thanks so much! -
I'd be interested in that if you can find a copy, just for the curiosity value. I have a ATR file here. Do you want it or are you looking for a disk? No, just an ATR would be plenty, thanks I found my grandfather's old copy of SynFile+ last night, so now I'm thinking "productivity software demo!"

I had two friends in high school who bought Lynxes directly because of me. Nothing like a good Warbirds fight in the hallways

http://www.vintage.org/2010/midwest/exhibit.php That is all. I WILL have an s-video modified 65XE, standard/unaltered: Atari 800XL, 800XE, 800, and a 400 + 600XL if I get the switchboxes in time. And an XEGS. AND LOTS OF PERIPHERALS (joysticks [and does the special Robotron 2084 box count?], touch pad, trak ball, atarilab stuff if I can find it, XM301 modem, homemade synthesized voice unit)! XEP80+Panasonic printer, 2 working 1010s, an XC12, 2 working 1050s, an 810, an 820, and maybe not quite working 1020 and 410s, ALL OUT ON DISPLAY! And bridging the modern, SIO2SD+SIO2PC (serial port) in a custom XM301 box, SIO2PC USB and a MyIDE+Flash. Oh, and the two LYNXs and LOTS AND LOTS of games.

On a related subject, since it's looking completely UNLIKELY that I'll have anything better than stock or S-video upgraded 64K machines to show in 2 weeks (getting excited!), what PAL OR NTSC demos can someone recommend that'll still run in 64K? I did get a multistandard monitor and two 800XEs. The one that was obviously heavily used looked like it had a lot of static or noise in the video signal. The one that was in a box (although I don't think its original box, the SNs don't match) is GORGEOUS. So thanks for those of you who told me to hold out for the monitor. Now I still need a semi-portable/luggable color TV for stupid CRT tricks (i.e. lightgun/lightpen). -
Not that you need more work But just out of curiosity, since the form factor is pretty close, would broken 1020s or 1010s work for giving the thing that "XL" look?

By the way, just showed a co-worker your case modifications and explained what they do and what they're for and he's very very impressed. *pat on the back*
Nah, thanks for your two cents, I might go that way after all

I can all but promise you that was 1990. It DID appear in the 1989 Christmas catalog (which is how I got mine ), but I seem to recall it being just the bottom half of a page that year with Blue Lightning, Electrocop and Gates of Zendocon. And I think those were the only three games Sears sold that Christmas, I don't think they got copies of Gauntlet and Chip's Challenge until later. Makes me wonder how much stuff my grandmother saved, she was a Sears Employee at the time; I borrowed her copy of the leather bound Centennial book not long ago - interesting stuff if you're into retail sales history.

I wrote a small program, "adir", which is part of my AtariSIO for Linux package. It lists the (DOS 2.x/MyDOS) directory of a given ATR, and hase a few additional options (single/multicolumn output using "-1", "-2", "-3", ... , "-r" outputs start sectors and length of files, "-t" activates a tree-view and recurses into MyDOS subdirectories). Just type "adir *.atr" and you have a complete catalog of your files. AtariSIO is available from my homepage http://www.horus.com/~hias/atari/, just download the latest development snapshot, the last official release is really quite outdated... so long, Hias Woo! I'll try that on my Lubuntu box tomorrow. Thanks!

Thanks, I must have missed that one in my forum searches! Tangental to this, but related: I've wanted this functionality as part of the OS for a long, long time. What might be ideal would be to develop support for .ATR, .XEX, etc. images in FUSE. I haven't really looked into it since I just don't have the time right now to make it happen, but the image formats are well-documented so one hurdle is at least already cleared. Where this is cool is that you could conceivably mount other types of Atari images as well (cartridges, for example). FUSE really only works well under Linux presently (MacFUSE is pretty horrible, IMHO, and I have no idea about the Windows port), but it may be a quick route to making this a real possibility. I only vaguely knew about this. I'm surprised they've built for Solaris and Hurd! If I get some time to play with one of the Windows ports, I'll report back (I'll do the non-CIFS/SMB ones as I don't need those network protocols at home).
