LOL that's funny! I contracted it once or twice from those dirty vampires, but was killed in the ongoing battles, so I had to reload anyhow. But Good news: You can be cured - Bad news: it's probably not going to be easy
This is hardly a spoiler below but

Anyhow once you're completeley a vampire, and not just contracted the disease, go and talk to a priest.
So how do I know when I'm completely one? My stats tell me I've been a vampire for 3 days. Does that mean I am one or it's been 3 days since I became diseased? If so I'll have to drop by the church and get me some benediction. Skulking about at night might be fine for thieves and killers and stuff, but generally speaking shopkeeps don't much like doing business in the wee hours.

ARGH!
Okay. Somehow I've contracted vampirism. I seem to have caught it from (duh) some vampire mages I ran across in one of the dungeons. I didn't realize it 'til last night because I'd been travelling by night. Now I can't go out in the day, lest my health plummet. How the hell do I become a normal Briton again? I tried cure disease, nothin'. Praying at the temple in the city right beside Kvatch said I was healed of what ails me, but I was still a damn vampire. I mean I know you get a cool drain life spell in being one, but I'm not particularly interested in that, since I try and keep out of the range of touch spells.
I love how some of the things work in this game though. I ran across a small farmhouse immediately north of Kvatch where upon walking in I was told I should look around for any possible clues as to the disappearance of its owner. Turns out a note was hiding under a dinner plate that I had to physically move to find. That's just cool...

To cause the spokesman for the Dark Brotherhood to appear you have to have killed at least one person "who did not deserve to die" It has to do with the circumstances and their community faction flags. In my case I'm pretty sure it was a bystander who got involved in a fight and unfortunately got themselves killed in the process.
Ah, that would be it. I took the brief sub-mission in that town just north of Weynon Priory where the old man gets you to help his two sons kill off invading goblins. During the action I sort of accidentally hacked into one of the sons causing him to be slightly dead.
Daddy wasn't happy but I didn't get blamed for it. I guess the Dark Brotherhood took that to mean I didn't mind slicing up innocent people.
Just for a lark, after he made his speech and wandered off under a chameleon spell, I saved my game and tried to attack him. Bastard's tough as nails. I shoulda tried taking him down when he "caught himself" behind some wooden fencing in the cave; he couldn't seem to get out so I probably coulda picked him off with a few spells...

The box, however, is damn near impossible to find. I expect it'll go even higher than it is now.

What's the deal with the Dark Guild or whatever it's called? I slept in a cavern to level up and upon waking was confronted by its "spokesman" who seemed to think I'd be an exceptional candidate because I was a good killer. I mean sure I've done a fair bit of killing, but only of those who attacked me first, which were pretty much all bandits and various creatures ... so why would they think I'd be evil enough to join? I haven't even stolen anything or murdered anyone (that didn't ask for it) yet.

Too bad about the label.Does anyone know if any of the usual tricks for cleaning labels might work on a CommaVid cart?
I'm pretty sure CommaVids are either plastic or varnish coated. That would make them quite resistant to cleaning with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
Won't do anything about the indentations caused by the writing implement though, and if the pencil broke the coated surface cleaning will damage the underlying paper.

Luiz, good to see you back.
Some really nice stuff up there -- those should sell very well. Brazilians seem to be pretty hot right now, especially Trons. I've got a couple of people I'll probably point to your auctions; they were bidding on some from me but ultimately lost, so I'm sure they'd like the opportunity for more.Let me know when your website is back up.

No one's linked to the Retrogaming Times yet? For shame...
The archive's link to the Many Faces of...Pac-Man points to the incorrect issue (it points to Issue #80, the (not-so-) "final" issue), so I dunno which one it's properly in.
-
Wow. Already up over $500 and it doesn't work properly. The hardware was notoriously flaky though.
-
Woohoo! I got off work early yesterday so I made it to EB in plenty of time to buy my copy. Unfortunately they had no more sealed collector's edition copies so he had to grab an empty sleeve off the rack and fill it with its contents from the back. Everything was there in good order though so I guess I couldn't complain, especially when they were the only store in the entire mall that even carried the game.
The wife, God bless her, got me to rent her a few movies so I could sink comfortably into the game for a few hours. So far I'm lovin' it. Oddly, on first run the game detected my system config and automaically chose "ultra high quality" -- yet far from that maxing out the features, when I went into the game's config I found there was still plenty of room to bump things up (adding shadows to more things, increasing draw distance of trees, objects, grass, changing resolution to 1680x1050 from 1024x768, etc.). I guess there was no built-in option for "rediculously high quality." (I still haven't maxed everything, I wanted to try about medium+ draw distances of objects/trees/etc. before going any further, especially at this resolution). All I can say is that on current settings it's a good workout for my system. In really busy areas where there's lot of flora, fauna and objects/structures it can get rather choppy. Most of the time it's quite smooth though.
I breezed through the training dungeon pretty quickly. That was fun. Visited the imperial city and a few shops, talked to a few people, completed the initial quest to deliver the amulet and a couple of side quests on the way, not to mention visited a few more dungeons 'n stuff. I did find one dungeon in a four storey ruin somewhere south of Weynon Priory that I couldn't enter though; it led down a few winding flights of stairs to a small antechamber with two statues on the far wall and two gates to either side of the stairs. I couldn't open the gates because it appears the levers to open them are beyond the gates. I'm guessing I need some kind of telekenesis spell or something to throw the levers from behind the gates...
Found lots of different flowers and herbs and stuff, but so far the only potion I've been able to make is a weak "restore fatigue" spell. None of the other ingredients seem to have anything in common to make a potion with. Is it ever necessary to "show all" ingredients to combine those that don't have like properties?
And what's the deal with those ethereal Black Rock Bandits? The steel longsword I'm using had no effect on them. I had to spell them to death with little fireballs.
Can you take objects found in common areas around towns found in crates and sacks without reprisal? What about objects in guilds you belong to? And how do you fish? I got a quest just outside the imperial city to the north where some guy wanted me to catch him some pirahna-like fish for its scales so he could sell them for some rediculous amount to an alchemist he knows. I checked the waters in the region but they were so damn murky I couldn't see more than a few feet in front of me. I also can't seem to swim very well.
All in all though it was easy to get into and get the hang of. Some of my impressions:
1. The graphics obviously are gorgeous. The distance drawing uses rather lower texture resolutions and poly counts for scenery than I expected though. Ditto for water reflections; quite pixellated.
2. The physics are spot on, though gravity seems a wee bit on the light side. Throwing things around is fun. Is it not possible to actually throw things though? I can grab and move the mouse while releasing grab to effect a throw, but it's not really the same thing.
3. Loading times are amazingly short. Initial load time of any interior or exterior is under 10 seconds -- usually under 5, so much so that I have no time to read the tips they give during loading. The dynamic loading of areas as you enter them is flawless -- no pauses at all. Makes for a wonderfully seamless travel experience.
4. Earning enough gold to buy anything significant is bloody hard. Even buying a horse is far beyond my means at the moment. This is not a bad thing though.
I'll have to give it another go today and see what more damage I can do. Maybe a visit to Kvetch is in order...
-
Man. This sucks. I can pick up my copy of the game tomorrow ... except we're doing physical inventory, which means I'm in early tomorrow, out late, and then I have to work all day Saturday to boot.So I'll hardly have any time to give this game a good run for its money.
Bleh. Ain't gonna stop me from getting it tho...

Bunch of these are ending tonight for those who may still be interested. Still some good deals here!

See?? I have tons of auctions up and none of these people are bidding on them. *sigh*

The linked pics seem to be linked directly from www.emulatorsunlimited.co.uk which -- surprise -- sells ROM CDs.
Idiots.

Came across these coupons today:
C-MARCH2006CAT Save 10% (up to $25) on any eBay purchase, Good through March 31.
C-APR2006TECH Save $20 on Tech purchases of $100 or more. Good April 16-30.
CPPEBAY03 Save up to $3.49 USD off shipping with coupon code CPPEBAY03 when paying with PayPal.
Anyone get any of these to work? (Well, except the tech one, which is only good for the last two weeks of April)
-
I probably won't be able to pick it up 'til next week or so, so hopefully stocks will be replenished by then. It definitely sounds like they've upped the stakes on realism beyond the HL2 level though, which is definitely intriguing. And for once I've got the hardware to play it at or close to max settings.
-
I think I'm going to have to buy this. I don't ordinarily buy 'em when they first come out, but...
-
Damn it, can't bid...not on ebay canada.
Is very intrested in the Activision blue labels.
Actually, you can log in to any international eBay site using your same username and password if you really wanted to. You don't have to have an account on every one. It's all the same website after all, just different servers.

That Quest is looking mighty good
Damn. I just realized I spelled it wrong. It's fixed, so you can buy it now.

-
I like the groupings of auctions. Will be interesting to see if they fetch more money that way.I didn't really give any thought as to whether the groupings would make a difference. They just made more sense, and also made for better auction titles than "Lot of random 2600 cartridges #1" etc.
But I guess we'll see if it seems to make any appreciable difference. At the very least it makes particular carts people might be looking for easier to find.
