32k could be measured in bits, which would make 4K accurate. (It certainly doesn't look like a 32K game) Did you try both paddles in both ports? (You can never tell; it might be like Tac-Scan, requiring the use of paddle 2 in port 2)

Interesting. This game looks vaguely like Commando, except with bees and bears and bags of money. A Yogi Bear game is certainly a possibility, but who would have been working on a Hanna Barbara license?

You shoulda told me you were lookin' for ultra commons. I had a box full of 'em a few months ago. Dozens each of Combat, Defender, Missile Command and others. I ended up selling pretty much all of 'em to homebrewers for various projects. Actually, my last stack of 40 will be going out in a few days.

Only for smal items though. Those tend to have very fine granularity (~1g) but only weigh up to a max of a few pounds (typically 5lbs or so). A midrange parcel scale -- one that weighs between 40-80lbs, is probably what he'd be better off aiming for. Those usually have 5-10g granularity sufficient for accurate rates on any small package, and weigh just about any package you'd care to ship. Those rare cases for really heavy items you'd probably be using UPS/FedEx/Purolator for anyway. One other tip: If you're a smoker or have pets or typically eat a lot of pungent foods (curries, for example), put a piece of fabric softener in the package. It'll smell dryer fresh once it arrives at its destination. (It'll probably seem a bit unusual to the recipient, but it's better than a box of Essence of Vindaloo)

New Board Software: Problems & Suggestions
Mindfield replied to Mindfield's topic in Site and Forum Feedback
That's because Windows can preserve standard formatted text in the clipboard, and this forum software can understand formatted text pasted from the clipboard and format it accordingly. However, it doesn't copy it with the BBCodes, and pasting into an editor (say, Notepad) won't preserve the formatting. On the other hand, it does mean that one could write up a document in Word, format it using normal Word formatting, then paste it into the rich text editor verbatim and keep the formatting intact. That idea I like. By the way, where's the inline "edit message" feature? I assume that's the one that comes up with an edit window right on top of your entry in the thread. All I see right now is the usual edit page. -
A postal scale helps, unless you're pretty good at guessing weight. They're hard to come by on eBay for a reasonable price including shipping; most sellers that deal in scales of all sorts charge absurd shipping prices. Just don't buy from digital.snail. He's an ass. If you do buy a scale try and get one with a relatively fine granularity -- something that can measure in increments of 5g or 10g (or 0.1-0.2oz depending on which system you prefer) Basic supplies I try and keep on hand: - Bubble wrap. Large and small pocket. (Large pocket for large, heavy items, small pocket for smaller and/or lighter items. - Packing tape and a tape gun. I try and keep two kinds of tape: Normal scotch-type packing tape, and opaque brown tape. The latter is good for recycling boxes and covering addresses/UPC symbols. - Packing peanuts. Great for filling in small spaces. I like the "S" ones. The shells break too easy, and the ones that look like white cheezies don't hold their form well. - Bubble envelopes, various sizes. Good for small items, single carts, things like that. - Printable address labels. Really saves you having to write your return address on every bubble envelope. - A credit card for online shipping. It's so much more convenient than writing out shipping information by hand on those forms. - A tape measure, for measuring package dimensions. - Patience and understanding. Because you will get lots of dumb questions about stuff that's already explained in your auction listings. You'll get them repeatedly. On the same auctions. - A digital camera and a tripod. Not a webcam or the camera built into your cell phone. Because muddy, out of focus images become fodder for posts here. Even a small little pocket-sized tripod will do. I use both a full-size and a pocket-size one for different purposes.

New Board Software: Problems & Suggestions

The ability to actually see the formatting tags instead of having the text visibly formatted. Y'know, like being able to see: <color=red>RED!</color> instead of RED!. (Replace angle brackets with the square flavour) This way you can highlight the text and copy everything, tags and all, and paste it elsewhere. With the rich text editor, everything you highlight and copy will come out as plain text. No visible tags. -
New Board Software: Problems & Suggestions
Mindfield replied to Mindfield's topic in Site and Forum Feedback
Okay, I changed the topic to this 'cos I keep finding things I should ask about. Next up: Any way to swap between rich text editor and default editor while in a message? It would be handy when one needs to capture the contents of their message with formatting/tags intact, which can't be done in the rich text editor. Something like "show formatting" or "show tags" would be cool. I like the new editor, but this appears to be one handy feature that's missing. -
New Board Software: Problems & Suggestions
Mindfield replied to Mindfield's topic in Site and Forum Feedback
Ah. I see the problem. Posts made from the old software that contain images and/or emoticons don't get grandfathered into the new forum software with their emoticons intact if you enable the rich text editor. This post quoted fine. For that matter, links don't get properly HTMLized when quoting old posts in the editor, either. (Note: I'm referring to embedded <img> tags and emoticons here, not attached images) -
New Board Software: Problems & Suggestions
Mindfield replied to Mindfield's topic in Site and Forum Feedback
Sure. I'll give it a try. While I'm at it though I'm getting an error in the rich text editor if I quote anyone that posts an image (like an emoticon) in their message. Specifically, the board tells me: You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board. A valid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.gif, an invalid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.one.gif If you have the rich text editor enabled quote this message and try to post it. -
So Al... any chance of increasing the maximum length of a message? It's shorter in this new upgraded board software than it was in the previous version, which further truncated my last sale post.

But that's two negs out of 7 total feedbacks, both negs were from sellers, and both were over a year ago. Not that I'm defending him, but 7 feedbacks isn't even a reputation yet.

I've been getting variants of those. Mostly, "Where is my item? It has not arrived yet!" stuff. Those are pretty easy to spot since I haven't listed anything in months. FireFox has a new Google Safe Browsing anti-phishing plugin available that's supposed to warn you about sites that aren't what they purport to be.

Trading "tapes" - Old schoolers need only apply
Mindfield replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Atari 2600
Funny, but growing up I'd never heard carts referred to as "tapes." It was always "games" or "carts" to us. I traded carts a few times back in the day, and it was always fun to be able to play a new game without having to save up your allowance. -
I had Shufflepuck on the ST back in the day. Fun game -- love some of the expressions of the characters when you score a goal against them, and their reactions when you beat them.

Holy crap on a cracker. Reasonable shipping, surprisingly diverse game selection with some very nice rares (Slurpy with manual for cryin' out loud) ... WTF happened here? That shoulda broke two bills easy.

That's one of the main reasons it was such a popular game and won so many awards. It's one of the few games that managed to weave a good storyline together with good gameplay, good level design, good characters, and a seamless world that kept you inside without distractions to pull you out of the experience. Best of all there wasn't much in the game that felt contrived -- no invisible barriers to keep you from moving past a certain point or things like that. HL2 is a little different in that it takes place years after the original, so the whole atmosphere is different. In a good way, though; most of the time you're outside the claustrophobic passages of the Black Mesa complex, in the world at large. The visuals are stunning, the physics are as real as it currently gets, the sound is superb, the world is massive, and the gameplay is excellent. They still managed to hold on to the formula that made the first HL series so good, while at the same time improving and enlarging it to a large degree. If you liked the first HL series, you won't be disappointed with its sequel. Hopefully we'll see some good expansion packs for this one.

I liked Doom 3, but the inability to use both a weapon and the flashlight (y'know, like, use both hands) pissed me off. Esepcially when half the levels were too damn dark to see anything -- either shoot blind or see what's about to eat you. At least Quake 4 didn't opt for that. HL2 was far better than both of them though, as far as I'm concerned. (Better than F.E.A.R. too)

Is Spore your kind of game?
Mindfield replied to Random Terrain's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I must admit I'm a little intrigued by this. The idea of "builduing" a creature from the cellular level up to a sentient being, building its city, going to war, etc. sounds interesting on a massively abstract level. Is it only going to be online play though? Will there be a fee? I'm not really into online play (there are always dickheads that ruin the fun) so that might be a deal breaker if it's mandatory. -
The only things I remember were the Y-connectors to allow two joysticks in one port. Were there ever any four player games that used (or could use) only one joystick for each player?

Mindfield's Purge Sale ... is now on eBay
Mindfield replied to Mindfield's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
48 hour notice. I'm on vacation this week so I'll have the time I need to spend doing up the auction listings. Whatever isn't sold by the end of Tuesday will be stuffed up on eBay for the vultures to pick over. -
I'm looking forward to mine. It'll definitely be cool to try out a new repro. Plus, I love maze-type games.
