  1. Keep meaning to ask this -- is there a shop anywhere in the bloody game where the proprietors carry more than 1200 gold on them at any given time? 'Cos I've been carrying around some somewhat high-dollar value items for some time because I can't find any place that'll buy them at anywhere near what they're worth.
  2. Well, I finally cured my vampirism, thank Og. It's so much easier playing the game when I don't have to constantly worry about finding a hapless victim to feed from. I'm even headed into my third Oblivion gate, having closed the one at Bruma. Fun! I've noticed that using an enchanted item to boost one of your magical attributes up into the next spellcasting category doesn't actually let you cast spells from that category -- i.e. if your natural abilities in Destruction are under 50, and you don an enchanted item that boost it over 50, you still can't cast spells that require a Destruction skill of 50 or higher. That sucks.
  3. Atari didn't single-handedly kill the market. They put a few nails in the coffin when a few of their over-hyped, much anticipated games such as E.T. and Pac Man turned up stinkers, but that alone wasn't enough to bring everything crashing down. What really killed the market was Atari's complete lack of licensing and quality control when it came to third party development. Because one did not need a license to develop for the 2600, everyone and their grandma could write and release games for Atari's console. That led to a spate of crap games flooding the market late in the game, which ultimately turned people off the whole idea of video games. When Jack Tramiel took Atari off of Warner's hands, he wanted to concentrate solely on computers, as that's where he saw the future, video games being all but dead. This begat the XE and ST line of computers. The 2600 was shelved, and the 7800 project was mothballed. Although computers were indeed the path to the future, this was still only part of the equation; Nintendo's release of the NES in 1985 proved that there was still a video game market -- and a profitable one at that. It just took a bit of a new business model and some good games to prove that to the public. Having seen this, Tramiel finally released the 7800 that had been shelved, as well as redesigning and rereleasing the 2600 in the Junior form factor for under $50. The 7800 did okay, but hardly stellar. The 2600 on the other hand became popular again, and new games started popping up for it once more. The 2600's second coming ran from 1986 to 1991, and enjoyed not only re-releases of pre-existing games but new releases from Atari, Activision, Absolute and others. However the latest and greatest in technology finally overshadowed the 2600's 1977 tech, and it finally gave way to the march of progress.

  6. Well, I pulled a trifecta over the weekend. Closed my first Oblivion gate (Kvatch), which led me to the heir from the main quest, whom I spirited off to the relative safety of the northern mountains, and then polished off the last guild reccommendation I needed to gain access to the university, wherein I enchanted all of my armor with feather (using greater souls) giving me another 200+ pounds of carrying capacity and making me incredibly fast as well. (The plan being to give myself the ability to carry much more stuff when I go adventuring so I can make more gold selling stuff) I also got myself as close as two cloves of garlic away from a cure for my vampirism. And of course now I can't find garlic anywhere. Grr...
  7. Just a bump for a few details. - The loose one is structurally sound but has a discoloured shell from exposure to (sun)light. It works fine though. Comes with mouse and keyboard, too. - The boxed one has a crack on one side below the function keys on the left in the groove where the plastic is thinnest. This allows the top of the shell to sort of be lifted a bit. I could probably glue/epoxy it down though, just for structural integrity. - The boxed one also comes with all manuals, AC cable and mouse, plus a bunch of 3.5" disks for the ST.
  8. I think I'm fairly close to getting into the university. I still have to go back and check but I think I've completed nearly all of the guild quests. I should check on that, 'cos I'd love to see what I can do there. I'm getting a little frustrated with the quests that don't give much direction about where to go. I'm trying to figure out the side quest in that northern mountain city where I'm supposed to go an "investigate" the death of a man accused of being vampire. Thing is, I did investigate -- talked to the man's wife, the guards who were assigned to the case, pretty much everyone in town (who all read from the same script) but no one has anything useful to say. I'm also on the way to curing my bloody vampirism -- except I'm not sure where the hell I'm going to get bloodgrass. (Apparently it's in the "plains of Oblivion itself" ... and naturally, I've yet to close any of the gates. Gah...)
  9. You only have yourself to blame. You know what Mom said about touching it too much...
  10. Got a nice Apple iPod G4 20GB bundle available here to whomever wants it. Please note: - All prices are in US funds, since I post to multiple forums and seem to deal mostly with US folks. - Prices do not include shipping, which is based on location and preferred shipping method. - Payment by PayPal only, but will accept E-Mail Money Transfers within Canada. Cash on pickup also works if you're within driving distance of Brampton, Ontario. - Everything here is in perfect working condition unless otherwise stated. I try and describe everything to the best of my abilities, but if you have any questions not answered here already, please PM me before committing to any purchases. - Prices listed as "firm" are ... well, firm. They are the lowest I'm willing to accept for them. I feel my prices are pretty durn good though. Okay. Enough with the boilerplate. On with the geeking. Apple iPod 4th Generation 20gb MP3 player - ultimate bundle Just bought this recently, used, from someone who's just as anal about keeping his stuff in good condition as I am. This is an excellent bundle with all the perks. The unit is in very good shape, with some minor scuffing on the front, a few hairlines on the back and very little wear on the clickwheel. It works perfectly. This bundle includes: - iPod 4th gen 20gb player (white) in very good shape - Original Apple inline remote with next/ff, previous/rew, volume+/-, play/pause, hold switch and clip to fasten it to clothing or cord. - Original Apple iSkin, translucent, with fitted plastic screen guard - Original Apple earbuds with foam covers - Original Apple USB to AC adapter - Firewire cable - USB 2.0 cable - Belkin Digital Camera Link -- allows you to use your iPod as an external storage drive for your digital camera. (More information and camera compatibility chart is available here) - Aftermarket USB/Firewire dock with tray adapters for 1G-5G and iPod Mini units. Includes original packaging. - User manual, iTunes CD, and all original packaging. BUNDLE ALSO INCLUDES: Boostaroo Revolution portable amp (white) Bit of an audiophile? Or just want to extend your iPod's battery life? This is what you need. The Boostaroo Revolution is a high-end portable amp not much bigger than a Bic lighter. This amp was designed for higher resistance drivers in the 60-300ohm range, providing up to a 12dBa boost (approx. 4x the volume) for up to two headphones simultaneously (via two output jacks) with a THD of less than 0.1%. Because it is a powered amp, you can lower the volume on your iPod, thus extending its battery life. Unit requires 2 AAAA (quadruple-A) batteries, which are included, and I'm also including two more 6-packs of brand-new Energizer Max AAAA batteries (packaged by Streamlight, who make stick flashlights) Each set of two provides approximately 20-25 hours of use in the Boostaroo. I used this for about 3-4 hours or so (it was used with an Olympus m:robe, which really needed the portable amp because its own volume output sucked with high impedence phones) The unit also comes with two male-to-male headphone adapters and original packaging. Hasbro I-Dog (White) I-Dog Rocks to your music! And when you plug it in, it even plays your music! With a built-in speaker, a distinct array of moods, and a personality that changes with the music you "feed" it, iDog is a faithful music companion. Included dual connector cable plugs into your music player so you can play tunes through iDog; listen to your music through your headphones while iDog rocks out or simply place it near a speaker and watch iDog move and groove to the beat. Flashing LED lights change color depending on the type of music you play. Changing light patterns respond to your touch or the amount of music your "feed" iDog to express moods ranging from loneliness to pure pup ecstasy! Compatible with most portable and non-portable music players. Includes dual connector cable. Comes with original packaging and user manual. Asking US $250.00 for the entire lot. Pics of everything are available on request. Will trade (plus cash) for mint black iPod Video 60GB.

(Nothing too large. I bruise easily)
  18. John pretty much gave up on PCAE a while back. Last version he sent me was 2.7 beta, which addressed probably most of the last batch of bug reports I sent. It included the source though -- I dunno if the one on the above link includes it, but if not I have it handy. I'm sure John would like to see someone else take up development on it. (I don't know the first thing about Delphi, or emu coding for that matter. )
  19. Added a ballpark price since this thing isn't exactly so common that pricing is well understood.
  20. Y'know, I love this thing. It was my first handheld computer back in the early 90s. Sadly, all it's doing is sitting in my closet, forcing me to re-examine its usefulness to me, and as much as I love it, I think it would be better off it the hands of someone who can get more enjoyment out of it. So, here's what this package consists of: - Atari Portfolio in excellent cosmetic and functional condition, including user manual, quick reference card, original box (a bit on the beat up side) and styrofoam. (3 AA batteries not included) - AC adapter - THREE 64K memory cards with good CR2016 batteries installed. One has some cool stuff installed on it. Each includes original plastic case, care guide and labels. - Parallel port adapter in original box with manual, plastic tray and 5.25" software disk. (Don't ask me if the disk still works; I don't have a 5.25" drive and never had to use it anyway) In case you're wondering, yes, it is possible to transfer stuff to the Portfolio using the parallel port adapter, but you'll have to do it in an environment that supports a real DOS environment such as Windows 98. Or an Atari ST -- I understand there's Portfolio transfer software for that, too. I managed it via an old laptop I had lying around and it worked great (if slow -- hey, this is 15-year old technology here ) Everything is in awesome condition and all works perfectly. There are no missing bits, either -- the expansion port cover is still there. See the pics for more detail. Looking to get about US80.00 [ SOLD! ] for the lot. Only PayPal and (for us Canucks) E-Mail Money Transfer accepted, and if anyone happens to live in or near Brampton, ON, local pickup is available too. Otherwise buyer pays shipping.
