Thanks ... still trying to figure out where the cables for my systems were packed during the move so I can play more Atari too

  2. Have been getting more interested in the 1970's lately. Wasn't around but seems like interesting times.

I'm a 70s culture buff. I was really little then, but caught a lot of the tv shows in syndication so they're part of my childhood. Love books and documentaries and news footage from then

  3. As a kid I took a bottle of Flintstones Chew-able vitamins from home and ate 1/2 a bottles worth by the time I walked to school.....and promptly threw up....true story.....

I actually did the same thing. My mother was always giving me shit for not taking my vitamins. So I - um - caught up. A trip to ER later to have my stomach pumped and all was good

  4. My wife really spoiled me this weekend. After the "not so good" medical news, she booked an impromptu trip to New York to see Billy Joel at his birthday at MSG. Had a great "long weekend" getting away as a tourist

  5. The Tim Hortons are leaving the twin cities. I only went once and didn't like the customer service, doing things their way. No, I don't know what a dang "double double" is or whatever.

So conflicted for me to hear that, being a) Canadian and b) a former resident of MSP

  6. The worst thing about depression? Felling like shit, then realizing people have it way worse than you, then feeling like even worse shit for feeling like shit.

Everyone has their own battles but you should never feel ashamed about the braveness you face fighting your own my friend. Takes courage that it's important to remember you show each day!

  7. Well - it seems my lymphoma diagnosis is such that I'll never get to play my Atari 7800 XM. Kind of a bummer but may be looking for a new home for this soon.

  9. My wife - who's been watching Marie Kondo and all about purging - asked why I possibly need an old CRT tv. I'm afraid to point to the 8bit consoles underneath, lest she ask why I also need them!

  10. That level of sickness you get were you have to call off, but you are too sick to play games. Ugh....

  12. Why would people pirate and resell games from a homebrewer? They're supporting our old classic systems as a labour of love, not to get rich.

      @CyranoJ I suspect some people just don't know what's a legit game and what's a pirate copy.

@masschamber I should have been clearer. Was annoyed by people taking ROMs, making their own cartridges and then selling them without royalties to the homebrewer.

  14. Re-watching: The Terry Kath Experience. Great doc. Gets away from the normal 'Chicago spin'. Dispels some of the persistent myths about Kath and Chicago

Glad to hear you could rent it. I bought it on DVD myself. There's a few extras (ie. the Terry Cam) but you aren't missing much by not getting them

Doesn't seem to be. I saw it at the world premiere and own the DVD so I'm rewatching. It's really good ... a touching story about a daughter trying to learn about her father through the documentary process. All the surviving members of the original Chicago are interviewed and James William Guercio is too. Plus it benefits from not having that annoying Chicago "spin" that they do.

  16. This week's status message poll: "What Atari console or computer have you spent the most time playing games on in 2018?"

  17. I honestly believe that there are few things that give me more anxiety than turning on an XBox One and navigating the UI. So convoluted, unintuitive and always changing. Absolutely atrocious design.

Seriously - I don't know how they could make something that awfully bad.

I received the thing as a gift from my step dad so I'm stuck with it. :-) But honestly, if I could quietly change it to a PS4, I would. Truly horrible experience. The game library is ok, but not amazing. And the UI of just using it makes me want to gag.

  19. This week-end I resumed work on my children book story at my wife's insistence. Our granddaughter is about to turn 4, and it'll be a pity if she grew up and missed it...

  20. It's amazing the XEGS doesn't get more attention and love given the depth of the library. The 7800 had 59 games, that's less than the Lynx. I mean I enjoy them both, but wonder about this sometimes. Is the 7800 more common, easier to program for?

    1. DracIsBack

      DracIsBack

I like both. I find the 7800 homebrew a bit more exciting at the moment but there are cool A8 titles too.

  24. Rewatching "Voyagers" from 1982. Loved it as a kid. A bit hokey now. Jeffery is really whiny and you can tell it's a "family hour" show, but still fun nostalgia and a cool idea.
