Even though my wife and I are pretty much the definition of soul mates, there's one thing we don't have in common. Can you guess?
Here's a hint:
For some '80s nostalgia, my wife decided to read Ready Player One, given how much I floved it. She's a big-time reader, and she knows I generally don't like fiction. But given that there's a fiction book I love, she figured she'd better read it. Now...last night, she asked me:
"Was there really an Atari game named 'Adventure,' or was that just made up for the book?" -
My mom has cancer and needs a hysterectomy. They knew she was pre-cancerous but couldn't do the surgery when it she was pre-cancerous because at that point, it's considered elective. And they couldn't do elective surgeries because of COVID. People, JUST WEAR A FUCKING MASK when there's someone you don't live nearby, okay?? If everybody had been doing this in the first place, this status wouldn't be necessary.

"Don't get the extra rental car insurance," they tell us. "Your own car insurance policy will cover it," they said. Yeah, let me tell you what happens: driver's side mirror gets knocked off it's holder. The cost to reattach it: $1200. Your insurance policy covers it after you pay the deductible. And then your monthly premium goes up. So yeah...everybody who preaches "Don't get the extra coverage on your rental car!" can bite my ass.
-
I don't know, I've rented cars many, many times, and have never EVER had to pay anything extra like that.
Then again, I treat car insurance as a catastrophe insurance: high deductible and low premium because the chances of me paying $1,200 for a mirror are exceedingly less than the chances of me having to pay $1,200 monthly for car insurance for the rest of my life with nothing happening.

Just when I thought the prostate exam I had was the worst thing I ever experienced...there's now the cystoscopy: the worst possible way to find out that I'm healthy.
-
So I had a prostate exam on Wednesday. Yeah.

"@ls650 Don't most people get general anesthesia for a colonoscopy?" No, at least not that I am aware of. My understanding is that the medical team wants you awake so that they can ask you questions and monitor your general awareness and vital signs. They offered me medical grade fentanyl as a tranquilizer. I took it and I didn't notice much effect. It was not a comfortable or pleasant experience, but a colonoscopy can catch polyps before they grow into colon cancer.

"Little Miss Strange" by Jimi Hendrix Experience kicks ass. No further message.

So, uhh...I'm getting a Vectrex. And the Sean Kelly multicart. Woohoo!

If you're in the Chicago area and want a working CRT TV -- a friend of mine in Aurora (I THINK it's Aurora; definitely somewhere in DuPage County) has been trying like crazy to get rid of her CRT TV. Nobody that accepts donations will take it. If you're interested, please let me know. You'll have to pick it up.

CREDIT CARD UPDATE: So I did pay off the balance on that one card (two more to go, and it'll be a while!)...it's a rewards card. My wife and I have been using it for every day purchases instead of our debit card, and paying off the balance every time it posted. Credit score went up 20 points! woohoo!

CREDIT CARD UPDATE: I *will* have that damn thing paid off *tomorrow*!!! Now just two more cards to go....

So every day my wife had to go in to work at 7am, as per usual. And every day this week, she wasn't allowed to leave until 6pm. Except tonight and tomorrow night, when she *might* be able to get out as early as 8pm. Oh...and she's a public school teacher. Remind me again why teachers are overpaid because their workday ends at 3.
-
Just realized that if I play my cards right, I will have a credit card completely paid off in the next few weeks. Man, that feels good.

I don't get it. I use the phrase "fame whore" all the time, nobody bats an eye, but the *one time* it referred to a woman, I'm called a misogynist. Someone calls a bus driver a "killer" because the bus ran over a cyclist, and I said I wouldn't go THAT far as it's been widely reported the cyclist ran a red light, and I'm chastised for being insensitive yet others after me who repeated this fact don't get shit. Is there a guide somewhere as to what I'...

TGSAP = "Twin Galaxies" something "Adjudication Process" or something...it's their new way of recording scores. What you do is submit a video of your gameplay and include as much proof as possible that the settings are right, etc., and then other members of the forum can decide whether or not your score is legit.

Tinkle Pit. That is all.

Anybody know a good, easy way to mother-in-law-proof a thermostat?

Well, my mother-in-law is visiting from out-of-state, and she's one of those people who's always cold. When we go to her house in the summer, the thermostat is up. The past few days she's been bundling herself up quite a lot. Yesterday morning I woke up VERY uncomfortable, and sure enough, the thermostat was jacked up several notches.
To be fair:
1) My wife and I do semi-sneakily bump HER thermostat down when we're there.
and
2) My wife...

You could make a burglar alarm with a string attached to the thermostat. http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/agesubject/lessons/burglar.html

Just bought a 2600jr. I have a 7800. So why am I so excited about this?!

Heading out to Underground Retrocade in West Dundee, IL this afternoon. I mentioned on Facebook that I was going to attempt the house high on Ms. Pac-Man Turbo and maybe Jr. Pac-Man Turbo, and the owner offered to stream the gameplay. If he does, it'll be at twitch.tv/retrocade.

Yeah....I was the only one at the arcade for most of the time I was there, so I didn't ask him to set up the stream; I didn't want Scott to go through all that trouble if nobody else was there to attempt a record. Still, it's my highest score so far, and I made it to a bit over 238,000 before I lost my first life.

Just started a Pac-Man blog...pacmaniax.wordpress.com, in case anyone's interested. Latest topic: why the Tod Frye Pac-Man isn't so bad

Your points are well made. I respect your opinion. I respect the facts you list. Let me give you my view. I was only 11-12 when it came out. In my childhood feelings, I was robbed of my months saving money. It was a slap in the face. WTF is this?
As an adult, I know there is more to it. Your blog confirms that in detail. I am happy to know it was a proof on concept, and the programmer voiced it was not ready yet. It was the suits. I can understand that more. They underestimated th...

My new goal: reach the kill screen on either the turbo or standard version of Ms. Pac-Man.
