  1. I dunno man, seems like Jag prices on eBay are pretty darn high these days!

Yes, largely the work of shithead4u. And of course people who will pay off the chart stupid amounts for anything.

A developer who puts any effort towards an 'A' title as SG was at least intended to be, won't make the money back they spent on soda during development let alone the cost of anything else. There aren't enough people interested, even if the little band who are will fork out outrageous amounts of cash. As has been said before - you do it these days for the love of it, or not at all.

I think a lot of people are becoming interested in the Jag, probably because it's STILL being called one of the worst systems of all time in the media!

Well you can count on the haters and the plain old clueless to keep taking the easy shots. ;)

    *cough*buddiesbuddy*cough* :rolling:

  2. He won both. I was curious on the second game. 2 people were bidding on it back and forth and with 2 seconds left he came in with the high bid. So he won both. Unbelievable. And he'll charge $200 more than he paid.

More then likely he was shill bidding :x I wonder how many shill offenses until Ebay decides to get rid of him instead of a short suspension and a slap on the wrist..

  3. Is it just me or is Geometry wars a mess too?

Ok, I have not played it on the Xbox or Wii, but I have watched game play and review videos and cant for the life of me make out what is happening.

Guess I must be getting old

T2K still rocks though, just got it for my PC

Unlike Space Giraffe, Geometry Wars works, you can see what your doing and it's fun from start to finish.

  4. Jeff Minter is just being alittle bitch about his game not selling too well.. it really makes me not respect him as much. I wanted to like Space Giraffe but his need for acid trip visualization made visibility of the play field questionable at time. Instead of addressing issues with the game from reviewers and his customer base he insults everyone and blames Frogger. It's rather immature.

  5. Zool 2 is another excellent game that is cheap...usually $10-20 even new!

It's an awesome 2D side scrolling action game like Sonic/Mario. You have to get it!

Zool 2 and AvP, I've already arranged to purchase with someone. There will be no doubts about those two. My only beef with Zool 2 is it seems you have to press up to jump!

Do you usually trade for Atari games. Pickens on ebay are pretty slim unless you want new in box.

Not true, you can also press one of the ABC buttons, can't remember off the top of my head which one. They just put that option in there in case you like to press up to jump, but you don't have too!

When I've played it's true for both.. it actually really irritates me when I press up by accident and totally screws up my jumps (especially in the Egyptian level which is difficult) I never saw an option for having the action button for jump instead of both up and B

  6. just cannibalize a working Xbox controller, cut out the cord and the chip all the leads connect into, rewire the GC joystick's leads to the proper pins of said chip, voila. You may need to do a little trial and error though.

DURR, I should've thought of that, since I've been working on a keyboard hack for my arcade cabinet for... way too long.

But if you're going to go that far, why not take it one step further and build yourself a brand new control panel from an XBox gamepad hack using the fine resources at www.arcadecontrols.com? You can build a really heavy duty board using nice arcade sticks and buttons. No need to lose your Gamecube fight stick in the process.

Well a dual connection could be done, with only the Xbox controller biting the bullet if Mimo so chooses :P I've been meaning to build my own Joystick but for the Jag from scratch, just havn't had the time nor the parts to do one.

  7. Then, simply put an XBox plug on the end of one of these in place of the USB plug (as the XBox DOES use USB for its game controllers). You should be all set!

    Sorry, wrong.

Just because the xbox uses USB does not mean you can connect any USB device and have it work. It doesn't because xbox games and stuff are not coded with universal USB gamepad drivers and won't recognize/utilize anything other then an xbox compatable stick.

It could work under linux, where you could install the propper HID USB drivers. But that is of no help to Mimo's intention.

I have a Gamecube fight stick (arcade stick) that I want to use on my xbox.

I can't find any converters commercially available, Is it possible to mod the stick as they are both essentially USB?

No, it's no possible at the momment. All we can do is hope one day one of the adapters like Magic Box will add GC input options.

It is if you hardwire it to the brains of an existing controller. They all have specific chips that encode for the extra buttons which are console specific, you wire the proper one to the interfaces (now not all buttons will work depending on the controller but it can be done)

  9. I don't have a problem with that, I could do the modifications myself if you'd like since I do have the raw images. PNG is a great format but it does do minor compression so it's not entirely "loss-less" as a TIFF, PSP or Photoshop file.

Hi, in fact I supposed that the PNG-24 was a loosless compression method. I am wrong ? but it's true that TIFF or others are better for image editing

TIFF are high resolution, so are the Photoshop and PaintShopPro formats so theres alot more information to work with plus they don't compress everytime you save them. PNG does compress when you save it, just alot less compression (why I like using it for web images, better picture and a decent file size ;) )

  10. Nice job with the box! I'd love to print it out, but the dimensions seem a little large when I pull it up on photoshop. If I went to kinkos and had it printed what would the dimensions be? It said 43 inches across when I pulled it up, and even unfolded that sounds too big.

The actualy size to be printed is 11 inches by 14 inches. They will need to change the size to 11x14.

I always thought it was weird that the Jag CD boxes were slightly taller then the boxes for the Cartridges.

    True..

Besides, your box fits the cd jewel perfectly, just need to make an insert to keep the jewel case from sliding up and down. I will send this box to OlderGames and see if they will like it enough to use for Frog Feast cd-version.

Also, the cart inserts for the jaguar fit the genesis cart perfectly side to side. Just need to add a piece for the top.

I have made modifications to your box for the genesis and snes version. So I hope you don't mind if I use your box for other Frog Feast versions...

    :D

I would have posted them here, but this is an atari forum. I don't know how people would react if I did that.

Of course, your name will always be on the box exactly where you put it.

There are some more projects we are working on(actually just talking about it) and we will need another box made when we decide on what to do.

    Your box kicks a$$!

  12. Some people told Jagware are pirates, but do you know where you can find Atari roms ? No ? Go on JSII !! A lot of roms for some machines see this screenshoot :

    post-7280-1191083896_thumb.png

Yes i know it's Google ads, but you must know it's a little bit ironical don't you think ?

I got another pm's for supporting the JagCF, more and more people. We (Jagware) want to thanks all people for this great support.

    GT poulpe.gif

Are you serious?? Google ADs works like this, it reads through the text of the site and selects words, since Atari and games is a buzzword it's going to look for links for that.. do any normal search for games and your bound to get links to roms. Wheres the correlation?

  13. I refused to draw any more pictures unless cameras were outlawed.

I refused to write any more books unless photocopiers were outlawed.

I refused to record any more music unless CD burners were outlawed.

I refused to film any more movies unless DVD burners were outlawed.

    Yes, you're totally right !!!

    GT ;)

Most of those are tortured comparisons.

You know its funny that in all of this no JagWare member steps forward and says 'look, we're not in this to hurt anyone or support piracy'. Instead we get the above statement by GT which basically says 'yeah some people will use the CF to hurt the community, but so what?'.

And I see a lot of posts telling Frog he's being a prima-donna or whatnot and stop worrying etc.

And we got this guy here:

For me the most important is :

    - like catbox and ethernet connection (for playing all aroud the world by internet) with address server for connecting peoples.

    - CF card for playing NEW FREE GAMES and OLD COMMERCIALS GAMES (there are no longer avalable in Europe becose jaguar be avalable too late and orignals games are very expencive)

i don't like NEW RISC processor (new processors betray original Atari architecture) the jaguar is a powerfull system who have bad developper utility's. PLEASE DON'T ADD IT.

    guillem

This man is basically giving some nonsense reason about Jag games not being available in Europe. Or he doesn't like the prices so he'll steal them. I don't agree with a lot of Carl Forhans prices either. Doesn't give me the right to steal from him.

And I don't see any of you guys posting a response to guillem to discourage him from pirating other peoples work. I dont' see any of you having the developers backs on this. Is there no one to respond and to discourage Guillem? Or will you just give silent consent to his thoughts and attitudes and then berate the Frog for complaining about it.

I'd want to leave too. Why float all alone in a sea of ingratitude? Its just so disrespectful.

Exactly, could not have said it better myself JagChris. As the developers of this device.. Jagware needs to address these issues of piracy themselves, by avoiding the issue your only making yourselves look guilty of the accusations of your intentions for leaving the rom feature in.

  14. ... and a lot of the animosity may just subside.

    :lolblue:

    *sighhhhh* thats a good one

How long have you been in the Jag "community"?

    Obviously not long enough :P

I've been here since about last December, maybe.

I thought the prospect of limiting the loading of ROMs to only those that are legal to do would have been enough. I guess I was mistaken :(

the problem is the routines could only be put into NEW and FUTURE releases, this doesn't protect any of the games prior to the CF. There lies the problem.

  15. Firstly, I think this "Jag-Ware vs Jagware" debate is of no interest at all. You may open another thread about this topic if you **really** want to "discuss" about that.

Secondly, this debate about the performance of the JagCF is purely sterile because it won't change anything. If you are not interested in this device or don't like its spirit, then just don't buy it.

And thirdly, of course, the JagCF can be seen as just a new development kit for a stock Jaguar (but this is very restrictive).

PS: these remarks engage only me.

I figure the statement in bold is at least partly directed at me.

    To which I will reply:

What part of "just because I disagree with it philosophically doesn't mean I'll avoid buying it, especially if good games are made for it" isn't understandable? Because, y'know, I've stated that several times already.

    Seriously.

Stop replying with "if you don't agree with it 100%, don't buy it", as I've already answered that, philosophy aside, I'm looking forward to the product. But looking forward to it doesn't mean I have to agree with the philosophy behind it 100% and doesn't mean I shouldn't, on a forum for opinions no less, avoid voicing my opinions. So, please, everyone replying with that nonsensical answer, stop already.

Jeez. Since when has voicing an opinion, stating a disagreement in philosophy, amounting to a personal attack? Some are acting as if voicing my differing philosophy on an add-on to a video game console on a forum for such things is akin to a personal attack. Get a grip.

Sorry, I did not want to be rude. Actually, I have made a wrong shortcut.

I should have split in two parts:

1-Discussing about the technical features is great but won't change anything (obviously, it will not be redesigned to have slower performance).

2-For people who do not like the JagCF (and apparently there are some strong opponents), just don't buy it instead of bashing it.

It's the lingering threat of piracy, the JagCF is a great idea IF it has software, JAGWARE has software in the works. So is the ability to play "roms" really necessary? Obviously this is where the damn fissure in the community forms. Alot of people say thay won't buy it if they can't play roms on it, BULLSHIT. If their are games for it they will buy it.

  16. Might I add...if you really believe the old games dont have great appeal, just read half the threads in any of the forums.

You'll see many folks wishing to see thiese games done right using tdays technology.

Todays Technology + Original Gameplay = good idea

Newer Tech. + Weird and out of place gameplay = New Pong, the one where you played as the damn paddle in an adventure setting oh my god, what the hell were they thinking??

  17. I start to play Mame on PC

a lot of games (like street fighter alpha 3) use only 68000 and ZX81 processors

People can develop a Jaguar version of this emulator for emulate theres games

68000 no problem jaguar have a 68000 (only need an adress changer)

for the ZXspectrom or ZX81 using tom or gerry

    and mame is open-source

    guillem

The Jaguar is a mess emulation wise, Project Tempest is the best Emulator out there it still has alot of issues, it'd take alot of work to get a new one running, MESS has sources for JAG emulation but it's so crude it doesn't work at all, it's all the chips in the JAG that make 100% emulation unlikely right now.

Plus it's not that hard to get a Jag and buy some of the common carts. Emulation is no substitute for playing it on the real thing.

  18. Like myself, Scat-o-Logic does not trust

certain featuers of the device and wont subject ourselves to being easily ripped-off.

And that is exactly the reason why it will get pirated in the end.

Piracy is not fought with less supply & higher prices. Anyone believing that is an idiot.

Besides, I think most people would like to buy the stuff, if it was available at a reasonable price, and people knew the money would go towards new developments.

But most active people here has more eyes for the potential value of their collections and/or the stock of games they keep in their warehouses, than to actually contribute to the scene. So the jaguar scene is a small pathetic club for selfadmirers, rather than vibrant, active and alive that it should be.

you do realize all official sales of Battlesphere (i.e. sold by Doug (Thunderbird)) Goto charity. So those paying the high price get alittle more out of it then as you put it.. "self admiration" I don't own it cause I can't see myself spending that much but at least it's going to a good cause.

  19. I would love a cart version of Gorf for the Jaguar. :)

As things stand right now, Jamie Fenton is the ONLY one who will ever have a cart version.

I may change this but it is VERY unlikely.

    Why is that? :)

Jag carts cost Big $$$$ to make ;) and what I think Jamie Fenton should get a Super Rare Jag Cart if wasn't for her there would be no Gorf on the Jag!

parts wise, it's pretty cheap to make a 4 meg cart (I saw an estimate of about $16+ each), the cost goes up when you figure in licensing fee's :P
