No, they are old brown case ones. I can probably still use the labels tho. Thanks! EDIT: Before I do this, there is no possible way that these are real prototypes correct? I do not know a whole lot about the prototype scene on the 8-bit. I opened the Super Pacman cart for example, and the socketed roms are labeled "SPL" (left) and "SPR" (right). The carts both have what appears to be a smaller square cheaply printed label with a laminate cover.

I had a few friends who owned a C128 (one friend who actually introduced me to the computer for the first time) and the general word from all of these friends was "Don't buy a C128, just get a C64". This was because they spent more on a C128, and figured that they just spent more to have to type "GO64" every time they turned on the computer. Yeah, productivity apps. Nobody I knew at that time really cared about those. These would make your computer that "educational device" your parents wanted it to be. We wanted games...that's it. Too bad the C128 was not too successful with the game designers. I believe we would have seen some really amazing stuff if it had back then. The anticipation of game titles for the computer WAS the reason why most of my friends purchased a C128.

I purchased a few game carts on ebay, two of which were Jr.Pacman and Super Pacman. Obviously reproductions, and the looks of the labels appear to be the B&C repros. I would REALLY like to create professional labels for these. I am looking into making a standard brown label with yellow text. I know, not very colorful, but I want to try to make them look as close to what they would have actually looked like if they were run into production. Where to start? What kind of paper/adhesive? Can anybody point me to a real-size template scan of an Atari 8-bit cartridge label? I am off for a week and thought that this may be a fun little project for me. Any help is appreciated! Also, does anybody know what font is used on the original label's game title text?

In a twist to the topic, what was the worst selling? I am guessing the XEGS. Does anybody know the estimated number of XEGS system sales for it's lifetime?

The other game is Flight Simulator II...not GATO. I noticed that typo just now. Anyway, it is listed in the DP guide as well, but no info as to how it is working. Oh well.

I recently acquired one of these. Every time you turn on the Atari with it in, it plays one of four games (Ms.Pacman, Joust, One on One, and GATO I believe) and it always plays them in the exact same order. Does anybody have one of these? I am assuming there is some sort of battery internally that is making it "remember" what the last game displayed was. I can pop it in and it will display Ms. Pacman, turn it off and wait a few hours, and still the next game it will run is Joust. Pretty cool to say the least.

I have a Supercard CF (actually two, one up for trade or sell!) and the Nintendo DS is ok for emulation. While the DS exclusive emulators are somewhat lacking at present, the emulators for GBA (Flubba's) are awesome. The MSX emulator is especially nice...was playing good ol' Bruce Lee on it the other day. I would say Atari 8-Bit emulation is definitely possible...if someone were to take on the task of writing the emulator that is. As for GP2X, I had one for quite some time, but ended up selling it off. THe screen was nice, many emulators, but the cheap joystick just killed it for me. There was a joypad mod in the works however...not sure how that turned out.

Something like this can also get ALOT of coverage on ebay. Atarimax sells his SIO2PC interface on ebay, and it sells quite often. I am sure there are MANY people out there that would want to upgrade the 800 in such a way.

Umm, count me in definitely!!! I'll go for two myself. How soon?

Great! Hopefully you find some. I would say the chances with 3000 or more disks are VERY high. I had two boxes of disks comprising about 400, and was able to contribute quite a few titles out of that alone Speaking of, here is "Ship Of Stars" from the MIA list. I dumped it a few days ago, but did not test it yet. Hopefully it works fine. Ship_of_Stars.zip

I have my moments It certainly is getting more difficult to collect than a few years ago however. Finding games in the wild in my area is pretty much non-existent nowadays (I live only a few miles away from Digital Press!) as there are many collectors around these parts. I do not think I have ever seen any Atari 8-bit equipment or carts around here since the XE was sold in stores. Now I have no other option than ebay (and the occasional trade), and the amount of collectors across all systems has grown considerably.

Yeah, I didn't realize the 800XL was missing the chroma signal until I tried an s-video adapter and saw nothing but black & white. I initially thought that the cable was bad until I tried it on my good ol' brown 800 tank. Looks fantastic. If only I could get the 800 up to 64k, and Ape Warp installed on that sucker...it would be ultimate. I use my 800XL exclusively now, only because it can run more titles, but I still love the 800 the best.

I just got ahold of this one too. The controller looks pretty cool! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=290040805490

We had one cart always...Epyx FastLoader I think game carts were more common overseas, as I see many titles in the UK appear on ebay that I never knew existed in cart format. In my neck of the woods (East Coast, USA) all we ever did were floppies.

Awesome! Thanks for the recommendations! I'll try some of these tomorrow.

I have always been a sucker for a cool demo (I used to write demos myself in the C64 scene), and was trying out various Atari demo's I have here. I just tried "Overmind" by Slight. Incredible stuff! Cool to see what the 8-bit is capable of! Anybody have any other good demo recommendations?

Awesome list. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! As for what makes them different, well, some of these compilations contain homebrew titles (such as Burgertime aka Beef Drop) and it seems they are continually updating these multi disks with the recent addition of the Boulder Dash variants. Hey, whatever they are, they are great. I personally love multi disks, and much of the time I just mount a random one in APE, power on the 800XL, and enjoy. I end up trying games that I probably otherwise would have overlooked this way. Still, very nice to have a list of the titles contained

Any clue on how to run those other games/programs I listed?

I think I now have 2 previously unheard of disk games.

No chance in breaking the seal for the good of preservation? Or maybe we can use our Mindwarp powers to rip the game while still sealed in the package! Where is that "Street Magic" guy when you need him? Haha! -

Cool! If you do decide to have Dr. Mindwarp backed up, I will be more than happy to do this for you, and ship it back to you unaltered of course. Let me know -
Yes all 4 disks of LoC are copy protected by a few CRC sectors in track #1, so the copies probably were made by a Happy or Archiver drive. I actually have an original of LoC here. I've been trying to get the VAPI tool working properly to dump them. It will be good to have two sources in any case, for such a super rare title. Thanks again for taking the time to dump all these titles, I know how quickly going through a collection can eat up time. Steve I did notice two bad sectors show up on each disk (sectors 2 and 3 I believe) although everything seems to load fine regardless. Other than producing a proper dump, the copies I just uploaded should be fine, no? As for VAPI, from what I am to understand this is sort of like the Amiga "sps" or C64 "nib" imaging schemes (in imaging a protected disk perfectly)? Sounds good, and perhaps what I am going to need to back up some of these stubborn disks. Hopefully you can get it working some day!

I was waiting for somebody to ask this, as the game is listed as a R10 It is a copy, but oddly enough, copying this game to the standard ATR format created an image that locked up during boot. The only method I could use to get this game to function like the actual disks was to rip to PRO. Any idea why this is? I got these disks along with a 1050 Happy modded drive from the same person. I do not know much about the Happy drive personally, but if I were to make a guess it would be that this copy was copied from original disks at one point using Happy Backup....that is if Happy Backup completely mirrors the original copy protection scheme. Can this be correct?

I have *much* respect for all of the folks that have previously ripped disks. This is quite time consuming Well, keeping with my word, I used a good portion of my day off and went through one box of the disks I recently acquired, checking/testing/matching titles to the current MIA list. Here is what I came up with and successfully ripped: Adventure On A Boat B-1 Nuclear Bomber Cave-In Computer Football Strategy Divex Great War - 1914 Jerry White's Music Lessons Re-Ripped Jingle Disk (explanation to follow) Market Forces Sports Spectacular Star League Baseball (seems to be a variant, maybe lost preview disk?) Statistics I Galactic Adventures Labyrinth of Crete Pharoah's Curse War Notes: There are a few I current CANNOT copy, and I have tried PRO and ATR formats....every time they boot half way and then stop loading. These programs are "Math Football" and "Decimals". The disks are labeled "A Product Of The Software Guild" and run a SG logo before running the said title. Can anybody assist in any ideas for ripping these correctly? I have another disk that matches the name of a game on the list, although the company does not match. "The Quest" by "Penguin Software". Does this need ripping? I tried anyway, and again, another disk that refuses to copy correctly. B-1 Nuclear Bomber is part is a multi-title disk, so I am not sure if this is what is wanted. I ripped it anyway. While I can get "Cave-In" to load by loading binary file, I cannot seem to run anything on the Jerry White Music Lessons, Market Forces, Divex, or Adventure On A Boat titles. What on earth am I doing wrong? The programs ripped to PRO format need to be this way. I originally ripped them to ATR with no success....which leads me to believe they are indeed copy protected. The PRO rips work fine. Star League Baseball seems different than the release I have on the HD. It has a load screen that the current rip does not. AND, if you try to run this on an 800XL, it thinks you have a basic cart inside the unit and will not boot. I had to switch to 800 OSB (Ape Warp rocks) to get it to boot. Maybe this is the preview disk in the MIA list? I found the "Jingle Disk" in the lot. I know it is ripped, and I had it on the HD previously. BUT, the ATR I had seems to have been ripped incorrectly. If you load it and press "1" for the jingle music/graphics, a graphical error appears on the screen and the program freezes. My rip does not exhibit this behavior. Kind of glad I found this with the holidays coming up Again, if anybody can assist in answering my questions and/or helping me rip the mentions disks correctly, it will be much appreciated. Without further ado, the disks: PS: Oops...Wargle was accidentally included in the bunch Sorry! More_MIA.zip

XEGS - Will this play most cartridges for 8 bit?
zektor800 replied to oldgames's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
If you get the APE Warp+ OS 32-in-1 Switchless Upgrade, you can have the best of every world....but it is not compatible with the XEGS. I personally have a 800XL with the Warp OS upgrade, and it is fantastic. Certain carts I own (like K-Razy Kritters) would not normally work on the 800XL, but a quick OS change to 800 allows me to run the cart. So, I can run any cart out there on the one machine. So, if you want to collect all carts and have a good computer..erm..console...you can go this route.
