  1. I'll probably get flamed for this suggestion but....how about ColecoVision XP Module (an obvious copy of Microsoft's Windows moniker for eXPerience). So my list of suggestions:

    ColecoVision XP Module

ColecoVision EX Module (another EXperience moniker - kind of goes along with the ColecoVision Experience magazine)

ColecoVision XM Module (XM for eXtra Memory)

    ColecoVision AEX Module (Arcade EXperience)

Hmmmm - seems I like the idea of 'X' being in the name :D

I believe we have started to gravitate around the word "arcade", which is fine. In fact I really like the Arcade Experience one very much.

That would lead to "Modular Arcade Experience System" or just "Arcade Experience System", with the ColecoVision AEX Module, Arcade Experience Games, and Arcade Experience controllers and accessories. In fact that just fit well with my Donkey Kong Arcade game.

I also like "Arcade Experience......". This is very much in line with Coleco's original marketing philosophy. Certainly better than "Super.....".

Good, now that I have eliminated the other popular names, we are starting to reach a forced consensus... :) No, wait, you suggested that name, it isn't fair! :P

Anyway, "Arcade Experience" sounds good to me, but again, I am not a native English speaker so I have no idea if it sounds right or silly for the rest of you guys.

I also thought of "Real Arcade" (though it seems to be already in use). Like "ColecoVision Real Arcade Module" (RAM), with "Real Arcade series" games, “Real Arcade” controllers, accessories, etc, all becoming the "ColecoVision Modular Real Arcade System" or "ColecoVision Real Arcade Modular System"...

Another vote for "Arcade Experience" as it sounds right, and also match the arcade quality games.

Experience the arcade at home with the Coleco Arcade Experience, from Opcode Games!

    :)

  2. A customer sent me 2 CV's one was working the other was not. I got both working and did the A/V mod on both of them.

If anyone wants to send me a non-working ColecoVision, I will do my best to get it working. As long as I don't have to replace any video IC's I will only charge you $30 to get it working. I will replace the 4116's for $20 each including installing a socket. If you need the Main VDP, I will replace it if I have any on hand for $40.

Often times, rebuilding the power switch, cleaning the cartridge slot and reflowing some solder joints will get a unit working.

I will then do the A/V mod for $55 and return it to you for actual shipping.

If I can't get it working you will only owe me for return shipping.

Both Colecovisions have arrived, and the picture is suberb!

    :D

Yurkie did an excellent job with both consoles. So good, that I "lost track of time", which hasn't happened on a Colecovision game for years!

    :)

A big Thank You to Yurkie, for restoring some classic fun to the Colecovision.

  3. Lets see if I can remember everything Yurkie has done so well for me:

    - One set of custom Mario Bros. controllers.

    - Cleaned, repaired and rewired 2 standard ColecoVision controllers.

    - River Raid for the ColecoVision.

    - Repaired 2 ColecoVision power switches.

    - Video mods for 2 ColecoVisions.

    - And a framed Cosmic Avenger poster on the way!

Yurkie consistently does an excellent job, and is highly recommended.

Thanks, and keep up the great work for all ColecoVision fans!!

    :D

  4. Got mine today. It's awesome, but Atari did a piss-poor job of shipping it. The shirt was crumpled up and the console's box was just thrown in there, with at least a foot and a half of wiggle room.

Yep. Mine arrived today, exactly the same with plenty of room inside the shipping box.

The Flashback 2+ box is not scratched or dented, so I am very happy to own one.

    :D

Thanks to Curt and everyone responsible for the Flashback 2+

  5. I spent some time "test driving" these fine controllers today, and they work(and look) like new controllers!

    :D

Yurkie did an excellent job refurbishing these dirty, old controllers.

Clean, responsive, and the Ball-Tops add a nice touch.

Slightly more of an "arcade" feel, with the Ball-Tops added.

Easy to grip, and seems to eliminate the old-style hand cramping.

And, I also enjoy having a straight-line cord, instead of the old curly style.

Both controllers are a great addition to my Colecovision(s), and will get plenty of gameplay.

Thanks to Yurkie for adding more fun to a great classic system.

Excellent and highly recommended for your Colecovision controllers!

  6. Yurkie did a fantastic job on the standard ColecoVision controllers when he modified them with Ball-Tops and straight cords. The controllers are now excellent, very responsive, clean and don't have the standard "curly" cords anymore!

    :D

Great to deal with, and hope to again.

    :)

Thanks for such a great job!!

  7. Ok guys, big deal, pun intended. We got a deal with RWB, we got the rights to officially use the ColecoVision name and logo with the proposed ColecoVision2.

Next step, check my source for obsolete ICs in China...

Sound great! It just keeps getting better and better!

    :D

    (dreaming about a colecovision2....)

  8. So here is my take:

I like the idea of a RPG, however I would be careful to not go with a JRPG style. I would try to stay true to the spirit of the American RPGs from the time, and expand the experience from there. I believe that would make a lot of sense. In fact a lot of interesting original games would be done that way, trying to ignore the crash and the Japanese influence after that, extrapolating for what would have come next based on what we have got before the crash. But yeah, RPGs like T&T or AD&D and adventure games would be nice.

Arcade ports would be interesting too, we got a lot of Z80 based arcade games after the crash that would be ported almost flawless: Kung-Fu Master, Commando, Bubble Bobble, Arkanoid, 1942, Tiger Heli, Tokyo/Scramble Formation, Rygar and so many others. Lots of interesting stuff.

Another thing I would like to do is to explore some of the CV2 planned unique features. The V9990 has many interesting modes outside the obvious pattern modes (the ones with planes and sprites). Like, the V9990 is really fast rendering lines (about 20klines/s for lines 45 pixels long), so a vector game would be very interesting. The V9990 also has a very fast blitter and it can display 32k colors in bitmap mode, so I would like to try something to use that, though 256 would be ok already. In fact it can do 256 colors in 512x212 (or 424 interlaced) too. The tradeoff is that it cannot do sprites in bitmapped modes, but the blitter is so fast (we are talking about a 3MB/s fillrate with logical operation like masking turned on) that many interesting games would be possible, like 3D RPGs or isometric adventure games in full bitmap 256 colors mode.

    Vector games?

Possibly Asteroids, Battlezone, Major Havoc, Space Fury, Star Trek, Star Wars or even Tempest on a CV2?

    Wow! :D

  9. Something I was wondering: with the new CV2, considering its proposed capabilities, which kind of games you would like to see released?

Platform games (that play like Jumpman Junior or Montezuma's Revenge, as I never get tired of these two games.)

RPG's, possibly like Gateway to Apshai. An adventure game that you could explore for hours and enjoy "getting lost in the dungeon."

Arcade titles: 1942, Arkanoid, Bubble Bobble, Crush Roller, Dig Dug II, Donkey Kong 3, Qix.

    Video Pinball(possibly like Alien Crush.)
