  1. Indy 500 is your game. Requires driving controllers (if you pick up Indy 500, make sure to get a working pair of those controllers). My brother and I had a blast playing that game when we were kids.
  2. Thanks, Mr SQL! And thanks Karl G for making this, I look forward to giving it a go! Absolutely it is a great example of the holiday spirit, I love this kind of stuff. Would love to see more (or, you know, some) games focusing on Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Tết, Lunar New Year, the works. Any and all suggestions are more than welcome! Merry Xmen!
  3. Hello there! I was just wondering if the ROMs for some Christmas-themed homebrews and hacks have ever been made publicly available at any point. Specifically: Holiday QB Christmas Adventure Santa Bros. Santa’s Scabs Santa’s Workshop Space Santa Just curious. Thanks! Merry Christmas and all the other holidays!
  4. Got it. Not sure why I wasn't smart enough to figure that out, but there you go. I thought I might have downloaded the wrong version or something. I'm just tickled to death to see the cement pie factory level on the 2600, as well as the elevator level. I really do prefer the Japanese order of the screens. I never knew why the U.S. arcade version was ordered so strangely.
  5. Very nice, and I am enjoying, but um, I only have one life. How do I select more? I tried the select switch and that selects the level. Am I missing something?
  6. Thank you, kenfused, from six years in the future. I just got my Atari 8-bit Ultimate SD Cart from MacRorie, and one of the very first games I tried was Gremlins, and I was disappointed that the sound was so wonky. I figured that someone had posted a fix here sometime over the years, and I found it here! I'll give this fixed version a try. By the way, another issue with certain 5200 games converted to 8-bit games is, what about games (such as Gremlins) that used the upper fire buttons? On this game, for instance, how do I use the flash cubes? Thanks!
  7. I've been wanting something like this for a very long time now but unfortunately I haven't been terribly active here lately, and I just now saw this. I am very interested. Am I too late? Please put me on a list. I will send a PM.
  8. Thanks to all who responded, this is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. I realize that wanting to know what the paddle games are for the 2600 is a perennial topic, and the response is to point them in the direction of the controller page, which is why I specifically wanted to know of any more recent homebrews/hacks that weren't on the list. There were a couple of hacks from way back that I knew of, for example, like Betterblast and ROL Out. If any of you know of any more, I would sure appreciate it. I would love to see a master "special controller" list that was kept up to date, including paddle games, keyboard games, trakball hacks, dual joysticks, other controllers, etc. I had heard of Brik 180 and had planned to check that out, but I was totally and pleasantly surprised to learn of the existence of Circus Atariage. I was well aware of the 7800 version, but didn't know there was a 2600 demo out there. I am a huge fan of Circus Atari and eagerly await its completion and release. I'm just a huge fan of all paddle games in general, Breakout-type games in particular. JJJJJS, I can find very little info on the 2600 Polybius (I know all about the arcade myths) and no info on PGRE Smash Hit.
  9. Thank you, I have already done exactly that (I've seen the question and response posted before from a few years ago); I just wanted to know of any homebrews and hacks that are not on that list, if any.
  10. Of course I know all the regularly-released games that use paddles (as do we all), but I was wondering if there were a list of all the other games (homebrew and hacks) that also use paddles. I'd like to put them all in a paddle folder on my Harmony cart (in the same way I put all of those sweet Trakball hacks in their own folder). Is there some sort of master list of all the special controller games (including games that use dual joysticks)? Thanks!
  11. I just got a nice, possibly never-used CX22 Trak-Ball and am itching to use it. I would be rather tempted to get the Centipede TB cart, but only if there were an option to get rid of that white border, which has always bothered me very greatly. I always thought it made it look like you're playing in a small room, and I have the same problem with Galaxian for the 2600 (although I think there is a hack that removes the yellow border). Also, I think I did see a hack of 7800 Centipede which enables trak-ball control AND gets rid of the white border, but I wouldn't be able to play that until I get a Concerto Cart, which I am awaiting patiently (any new news on that?) Any chance you could put them all on one cart and call it "Atari Trak-Ball Classiks?"
  12. I would have it trigger a congratulatory message to pop on the screen, saying to call an 800 number to receive further secret instructions. The person would excitedly dial the number, only to hear a pre-recorded message of Skeletor cackling.
  13. I'm wanting to order the Crazy Brix cart from the AA store, but was wondering if they are the fixed version (that was posted on April 27, 2016). If so, I will go ahead and order post haste!
  14. AHA! THANK YOU! This is exactly the Rosetta Stone I was looking for. It will be completely unnecessary now to mess with converting any of those old .wav files. Everything I had was current up to April, 2005, so this is far better than I expected. I was just planning on converting whatever I needed, and then go through and try to catch up on everything since then. It will be much easier to catch up from 2013 than 2005. All I really wanted was the path of least resistance: what would be quicker, to (hopefully) do a batch conversion of those old files, or go through and re-download them again one by one? Thankfully, it's now moot. Thanks again!
  15. The version of the program I found the other day is from this page: http://pocket.free.fr/html/soft/wav2bin_e.html I downloaded the Mac version, but as I mentioned, it's not a simple GUI-based one, but rather Terminal-based. When I click on the icon, I get this window: I'm not able to type anything. I have no idea what I am supposed to do. Could anyone help me? I am not familiar with this kind of program or doing anything in Terminal. Is it possible to do a batch conversion of several files at once? Thanks in advance for any help.
  16. Oh, I already snagged those a while back. I was referring to stuff like hacks and homebrews (if someone has a single zip file of all those, that would be great!).
  17. I was hoping there would be a simple GUI-based batch converter for doing many files at once (like how, say, Aimersoft Total Media Converter does file). Even if I figured out how to use that program (I did find and download it the other day but couldn't figure it out), it looks like it only does one thing at a time, which would defeat the purpose. Anything command-line based is beyond my meager abilities. (I'm definitely not a DOS person.) At this point, it would be quicker to re-download all those files again from scratch.
  18. I bought a 7800 ball mod controller from him, and received it extremely quickly. Very well done, and it feels and plays great. Excellent, solid controller. I really love it. Highly recommended.
  19. I have just acquired a Harmony Encore Cart and would like to convert my old Cuttle Cart .wav files to .bin. Is there any possible way to do this? I have a Mac, OS X 10.6.8. Thanks in advance for any info.
  20. Hi there, Ed, I am very late to this thread, but I think I would be interested in getting the Seagull CV Adapter. I just wanted to confirm if it would suit my needs. I am probably going to get the Supreme 78 All-Play 4/8 joystick for the 7800. If I get that joystick, and use it with the Seagull CV adapter, then the two buttons on that will work for two-button games on the CV, such as Tutankham? Just wanted to be absolutely sure before I spent the money. Will it be available on your site at some point, and how much will it retail for? Will there be an option to get it without any artwork? My apologies if you've answered these questions dozens of times already; I haven't gone through and read every post in this thread (I got bogged down after page 2). Thanks!
  21. As I posted in another thread, I just got an earlier model with the expansion interface. Serial number is AT85 042581.
  22. Thanks for the info, Trebor. I appreciate it. Looking forward to getting the AV mod done. I'll just keep checking back for the Concerto Cart; just wanted to make sure I hadn't already missed out. Thanks again.
  23. I thought I would finally jump in with some Atari 7800 thoughts and a few questions. The Atari 7800 was never my favorite system, but I still really liked it. I remember hearing about it when it was first announced in 1984 and always kept an eye out for it, but never saw any for sale. I got my first system back in May of 1990, on a lark, at a junk shop, along with three games: Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, and Pole Position II. I was pretty impressed, and noted that Dig Dug used exactly the same sounds as the 2600 version. The system itself was in not that great of a condition; the on/off switch stuck pretty bad and the controllers didn’t work well. My interest was piqued enough, though, to finally purchase a brand new system from Toys ‘Я’ Us in February 1991, and I started snapping up as many games as possible for a while afterward, and amassed a nice collection. I bought several 2600 and 7800 games directly from Atari around 1991-1992, so I have a fair amount of the late-release stuff. My interest gradually faded as I focused more on other consoles I was more interested in, and the 7800 kind of fell by the wayside. I was a rabid and active video game collector till around 2007, when I finally became burned out. I sold a small chunk that fall in order to make money to survive, and I slowly faded from the scene. I still love video games, but haven’t been actively collecting them for quite some time now. Real life sort of took over and I focused on other things. Last fall, my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and several months later, she passed away. I was very devastated. One thing that helped me get my mind off of things was getting into podcasts. I discovered some great ones—The Mission Log Podcast, You Don’t Know Flack, Shinto’s Atari Jaguar podcast, Ferg’s 2600 podcast, and Phil “The No-Swear Gamer”’s podcast. I really got into those and it helped me to focus on more pleasant things. I’m still catching up on back episodes, and it’s really re-sparked my long-dormant interest in video games in general, but the Atari 2600 and 7800 in particular. I love how these podcasts will examine the minutiae of every single game, no matter how crappy or beloved. It really makes me want to play and rediscover all those old games again. Because of that, when I happened to run across a CIB Atari 7800 in good condition, I decided to snap it up. It was the first video game purchase I’d made in quite some time. Even though I already have a CIB Atari 7800 I had bought new at the time, I decided to get this one because all of my video game consoles are packed away and inaccessible, but mostly because this was one of the early models with the original box design and the expansion port in the side, which I realized would have fewer compatibility issues. And as I mentioned, it was in pretty nice condition. It was $100, but I decided it was worth it (hopefully we both got a nice deal). I hooked it up the other night, and it was the first console game I’d played in several years. Felt pretty great. I’d like to dip my toe in the waters a bit deeper. I’m looking forward to playing all my 2600 and 7800 games again. I’d really like to enhance my playing experience with this system. I have a few questions that I was hoping some people might be kind enough to answer. 1. I hooked it up through my VCR via an RF to coax adapter, and it didn’t look so great, but it was my only option. I’ve seen some posts about how people can get their 7800 AV modded. I have zero technical expertise with stuff like that, so trying to do it myself is not an option. Could anyone recommend someone here on the boards who performs that service? Who would be the most trusted person to contact? 2. I’m extremely interested in getting the Concerto Cart, whenever it is released. I am a chronic boat misser, and I really don’t want to miss out on it this time. Is there a waiting list for this? Anyone know the current ETA? Where could I get the most current info? 2a. Will the Concerto Cart have a pokey chip included, or would one need to provide it themselves? Thanks for any information you guys can give. I’m really looking forward to playing these games again, as well as checking out all the great new homebrews for both the 2600 and 7800, which look really impressive. Game on.
