I have been at this for hours and am getting nowhere. If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful. I have been trying to get Retroarch to run at 2160p but it just refuses to. I have tried the custom viewport settings and a whole bunch of other stuff. What do I need to do to get Retroarch to run in 4K? Even when a game is loaded it is still stuck in 720p. The shaders would look a whole lot better in 2160p as I have in MAME.

I'm about halfway through this game and really enjoying it. After I am through with this game I would like to play another that is like this one. It doesn't need to have rpg elements like stat levelling, so games like the original Legend of Zelda for the NES are fine too. The systems I am looking at are NES/SNES/GB/GBA/SMS/Genesis/PCEngine. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have been out of the scene for a while and would like to know what the current best sites are for listening to music from the C64, Atari 8/16 bit machines, Amiga, NES, SNES, Genesis and SMS? (Phew.. I think that's all of them) Currently I have bookmarked Rainwave, Nectarine, Kohina and Slay Radio but that was from a long time ago. Are there any other sites that I should be listening to?

Thank you for your responses. I had tried google searches and spent a couple of hours finding emulators such as BizHawk, bgb and VBA-M. I just couldn't find a clear cut answer to which is the preferred emulator. I know it can be a subjective choice, but some emulators are better than others and I couldn't find which would be best to use. Also, since some of them use the emulation cores of others it made me a bit confused. When you refer to Visualboy Advance, do you mean the old 1.7.2 and 1.8 versions or the new VBA-M svn 1206?

Hi Could someone please tell me which emulator is currently considered the best for GB/GBC on a Windows 7 machine? Also, would this emulator require a GB and GBC bios or are these pretty well reversed engineered and integrated into the emulator? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Sam

It's all good now. By tinkering with CCS64 v3.9 I finally have perfect scrolling. It's weird though, I had tried this emu before without much success.

Hi As much as I would love to have a real c64 setup at home like I used to it has just become impractical. I have tried pretty much every c64 emulator that I can find to try to recreate the experience as much as possible but they all suffer from the same fatal flaw. That is, they are unable to reproduce the silky smooth scrolling that the c64 was famous for. Even setting the emulator to PAL at 50Hz and setting my display to a 50Hz mode will result in either stuttering or screen tearing. I have spent a lot of time trying to fix this but I just can't find the answer. Can anyone help me with my problem. It really detracts from the experience when games like Uridium start to stutter when I know from playing them on the real hardware that they run beautifully. I am using Win7 on a laptop hooked up via HDMI to a large LCD TV. I know that emulation will never be the same as the real thing, but it's the only choice I have.

Hi I have seen many 2600 paddle controllers for sale on ebay which are advertised as genuine and brand new. I really want to buy a couple of paddle controllers but I don't know if the ebay listings are legit (it seems a bit suspicious that 30 year old controllers can still be found relatively easily brand new) I really don't want to put down a fair bit of money for the controllers if they turn out to be fake/defective, I really don't have a lot of money ATM. Also, since I live in Australia shipping may be a big factor in price as well. Could someone please advise me on the best way to get my hands on a decent pair of paddle controllers? I wanna play Warlords and Video Olympics dammit! Cheers Sam

Video Olympics is a great example. Too bad I don't have any paddle controllers but even worse I don't know anyone interested in the 2600! The basketball and volleyball variations look interesting, do they play well?

Well we all know some 2600 carts have an obscene amount of game variations to them. For example, the good old Combat cart has 27 variations to it and Warlords has 23 IIRC. This makes the 2600 carts an adventure to explore, since carts with multiple variations can often have awesome games hidden deep inside. Each variation can result in a vast change in gameplay and thus makes a single cart have a high replay value. Eg - In combat, you can be a tank, a bi-plane or even a jet fighter! What I would like to know is if people have their favorite variations of games and would like to list them below. Some variations may even be more entertaining than the default selection on start up. Hopefully there can be some good suggestions that even seasoned 2600 pros have overlooked.

Actually, MESS seems to work quite well. Using scanlines and bilinear filtering it produces a pretty good image. Have played a few games on it using a PC joystick without any problems.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, but it does lack video filters and sound customization. Also seems to lack a full screen mode in windows. However if you say it works well I will give it a fair go later on when I have more time. I wasn't intending to put the emulator down. I don't like to attack any work people do to help others emulate old machines they will never physically own.

Yeah, he mentioned some emulators. Unfortunately one was KEGS which is severely out of date and one is a browser based emu. I wonder why the IIgs doesn't get much support on the PC. Was it unpopular or hard to emulate?

Hi I am looking for an emulator for the IIgs for Windows 7. Does anyone know of any recent emulators for this machine? The only one I could find was xgs32 but it seems very old, system requirements in the help file list Windows 2000/9x as the recommended OS. I would like to get to try this machine out since I've always wanted one but emulators are hard to come by. Thanks Sam

Ok, using DOS 2.0d I am now able to format, save and load from disks. You have been a great help. Last question. From what I can understand so far, to access disks in BASIC for read/write purposes you always need to have DOS running in the background?

Hi I've been flicking through some manuals trying to learn Atari Basic. I've been messing around with a few programs but I am at a complete loss as to how to store the programs when I have finished with them . I am using Altirra in standard 800 os-b mode with basic enabled, but for the life of me I can't create a functional blank disk image and save and load from it. Can someone walk me through the process please? Error 130 is killing me. Some questions whose answers would be helpful are: 1) Do I need to format a new disk image, if so, how? 2) Do I need to use open and close commands, or are the save and load commands enough Thank you Sam

JoyToKey really did the job. With the added bonus of working in Win7 also. Now I can use controller to also minimise/maximise the screen, and use the select and start keys. Very cool.

Without having tried the keymapping programs yet I can get the fire button working on my joypad in Altirra, but the d-pad is not functional. Are there any settings that can be changed to get it to work? Otherwise I will try the two programs listed above. Thanks for your help.

Can anyone recommend a program to map keystrokes to a joypad? I am using Altirra as an emulator for the Atari 8 bits and can only use the cursor keys as controls. I just cannot get a joypad to work. I am running Win XP. BTW Shamus rocks , been playing it for hours today using the keyboard. I had to stop when my arm went numb.

There are no keyboard shortcuts for the quick load/save options right now. I can look into adding them for 1.5, however. Thanks, that would be great

Hi I have been using Altirra 1.4 for emulating the Atari 8 bit machines. It's a great emulator with excellent compatibility, and I've found the best feature to be running PAL software full screen on a 60hz monitor and getting smooth scrolling. Also it has a graphic filter which gets rid of much of the blockiness of extending the video to full screen without blurring it to hell. However, since I like using it in full screen, I don't have access to save states since they are only accessible through the menu. Does anyone know of any hotkeys for savestates so I don't have to shuffle from windowed to full screen all the time? Thanks Sam
