  1. What are Counters/ Juggles? BTW, I'm surprised everyone isn't dying for a 3D Jag Fighter, something to show that the system can handle it....

Counters= what the name implies; countering (i.e. stopping) your opponent's attack with your own and hitting him / her at the same time.

Juggles: A barrage of repetitive attacks that juggle the player (i.e. keeping him / her off the ground) that does enormous amounts of damage

    .

Thanks! Hopefully this topic will pick up steam & someone will accept the challenge!

On another note, has anyone played the fighter Dark Rift for N64? My friends and I had the strategy guide, and would play for hours. It seemed like the closest thing to Tekken available. Looking back, I don't see why the Jag couldn't handle a game like that..

  2. FFL arrived in the mail yesterday but I haven't had the chance to try it yet (I've been busy playing Zool 2). I'll post my impressions once I have some time to sit down with the game. :D

Just wondered if you had any thoughts on the game yet? I often wondered if I played through the game and got all the moves if it would be better than the reviews. Most of the reviewers gave up before that.

  3. For a fighting game, I'd love to see a decent 3D product :)

Something like Fight for Life 2, smoother, and with better controls !

Co-sign. I love fighters... It would be great to shut everyone up who uses Fight for Life as an example as to why the Jag sucks and wasn't 64 bit!!

  4. And not to backpedal at all, but...

There were instances where because I was running the code in a static RAM development cartridge, after burning real EPROMs a bug would come up that wasn't there initially. If I remember correctly, Atari tested the game with development cartridges. The only time I had a bug like that come up was in Summer Games or Winter Games though, it never affected IM. If I remember correctly.

Interesting. Always nice to meet an original developer for Atari systems and especially cool to see unrelased titles and source code.

Just curious was one of those issues with Winter Games missing sounds? I think some people discovered some versions of Wnter Games had issues with some sounds missing.

I have one of those. The bobsled race is silent for sure.

  5. I heard the Co-Jag arcade hardware bumps the 68000 of the Jaguar to a 68020 or 68030. I'm not sure what other changes/enhancements are made, but that's a pretty strong difference as-is, especially considering how much use a lot of Jag software makes of the 680x0 chip.

I think the CoJag games included more memory plus a hard drive, if I remember correctly.

I think the Jag could totally do this....

  6. no particular order:

    Well, first:

    1) Big and sleek is right...TOO damn big. That thing is so big, I've had trouble storing it. A CV, on the other hand, can go anywhere a 5200 can, plus more. I like the overall CV look better, although the red LED on the 5200 is nifty.

How in the world do you always manage to turn every thread on Atariage into something about the merits of the Colecovision? By now we all know how much you love your Colecovision! Do you want to be with it? Gee Whiz!

Isn't there a Colecovision message board anywhere? If not, you should start one! :D

  7. By the time Coleco stopped videogame production in 1984, the company had sold more than six million ColecoVisions in just three years.

    From ClassicGaming.com's Museum

    http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?...d=24&game=8

Classicgaming.com is a long time site. I remember seeing it as long back as the late 90's. I don't know how accurate or outdated that info is. I remembered seeing this on the site back in the 90's.

According to the FAQ at Gamefaqs, 6 million ColecoVisions in just two years.

    http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/coleco/file/916371/2638

This faq was posted on Gamefaqs 10 years ago. It also could have outdated infomation as a result.

That's alot of Colecovisions! Twice as many as CVGUS was quoting!

Edit: Is that figure on either of these links? I cant find it.

  8. "Sales quickly passed one million in early 1983, before the video game crash of 1983. The ColecoVision was discontinued in the spring of 1984.[citation needed] In 1986, Bit Corporation produced a ColecoVision clone called the Dina, which was sold in the United States by Telegames as the Telegames Personal Arcade."

River West Brands currently owns the ColecoVision brand.

    From Wikipedia

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ColecoVision

Gus, I'm not saying that Wikipedia is the gospel, but these are the only statistics I can find (which are echoed by other sites, I'll provide links if necessary). Where are you getting 3 million units from? I guess it is entirely possible that the clone makers and liquidation warehouses sold 2 million more Colecovision based platforms, but going from these figures, it would had to have happened after the crash.

  9. . This is why I wonder if the 7800 was really that much better than a CV. To be fair, the same would apply to the 5200 (so who knows what it was capable of)?

I don't know why you fall into the same silly logical traps over and over and over again.

Pac Mac Collection DOES look awesome on the Colecovision. Opcode did a terrific job. He does terrific work on all that he does. But

PAC MAC IS A SIMPLE GAME!!!!

Comparing the Colecovision and the 7800 (or 5200) on the basis of how well they play a simple game like Pac Man and then assuming "They must be almost similar" is ridiculous.

Stick SIRIUS or ALIEN BRIGADE on the Colecovision and have it running as well as it does on the 7800 and I'll think you don't have your head up your ass.

This isn't a slam on the Colecovision as a system, as a hardware platform or anything else. It's a slam on your crazy logic.

    Seriously Gus... Again?

  10. In it's time, the CV was estimated to have sold no less than 3-4 million consoles. Pretty big crumb. If not for the Crash, those figures may have more than doubled.

I didn't know you had an insight into parallel universes? It's ireelevant though because the crash did happen. It killed the Colecovision. End of story.

The 2600 was not as big a factor by 1982 as you think.

With 70+% of the market as documented by many sources? You are so full of it.

. But it was still a 2600, and by 1982 was no longer capable of bringing home too many arcade games- and computer-to-console games, same problem.

So why didn't sales fall to zero (instead of remaining the number one console) and why didn't publishers stop making arcade translations for it?

You must remember that it is rumored that it was the 7800 that was supposed to have been the "real 5200." That is why it was backward-compatible, because it was supposed to have come after the 2600. The 5200 was rushed out to match the CV.

No, but again, you've shown you like to rewrite documented historical fact.

While you may be right from a certain point of view, human psychology was not considered. By dumping the 5200 owners, for whatever reason, Atari came across as not caring for its customers.

To 5200 owners, sure. To 2600 owners (of which there were a great many more than Colecovision or 5200 owners), what would the story have been? I can play my games out of the box and have a newer system.

What Atari had to consider back in 1983 was how well the 7800 would do against the CV, as that was the only real problem at that point.

No, because Colecovision was dead. Finished. Nada when the 7800 hit test markets.

The CV had the 2600 module, so if you wanted to play 2600 games, you were covered there already.

Assuming you could afford the module.

And I think that the CV 2600 module plays more 2600 games than the 7800.

How relevant is this exactly? There are a handful of 7800 games that MIGHT NOT work on some 7800s.

Honestly dude ... why do you post here? I mean really? It's not like you listen to facts even when they're put in your face. You simply abandon thread and then start new ones with the same arguments which attempt to rewrite history.

Gus, I have to agree with everything Drac is saying. People have answered and debated! You ignore it and repeat yourself! We get it! You don't think the 7800 is better (or THAT much better) than the CV (or 5200)! You're pissed off about it! Jeez!

  11. Holy crap! That is amazing! :-o

That's one of the things I love about AA. People very often suggest what appear to be (or in many cases are) patently ludricrous ideas, and every once in a while - somebody brings them to life.

Yeah, aren't you glad the creator of this thread wasn't sent to the To All Non-Programmer Idea Peddlers thread? "If you think Ballblazer might be is possible, make it yourself or shut up." :D

    I'll co-sign that!

  12. If you clean them thoroughly you'll be fine...they are'nt as bad as RW is saying. ;)

Here is what I do when it starts to act up,even after cleaning the carts....

The other thing I do when this starts to happen is grab an old plastic credit card

or license or ID card. These are just about the length of the Jag's cart slot. Hold

the PCB edge of a Jaguar cart up to the credit card and mark it to cut to fit and

also for the keyed part. Cut it to fit.

Now...take a CLEAN white t-shirt you dont mind trashing. Wrap the shirt tightly

around the edge of the cut side with the keyed edge. DIP that whole edge in

contact cleaner(as in the stuff for eye contact lenses, as it is mildest and does the job.)

Now with the wet edge insert the card in the slot..going up and down gently..never side

by side. Move the shirt up again around the edge to a clean spot, dip , insert remove.

Do this about 6-12 time, clean off all your cart edges with a cotton swab with the

same contact cleaner and you should be back to business.

    ;)

Sorry to bump an old thread, but this works great! Thanks Gorf!

I just received a lot of 5 games and Bubsy had the RSOD. You're a life saver!

The only things I might add is to watch for cotton fibers from the Q-tip sticking to the cart edges. To remove them I just ran the T-shirt with the credit card across the board. Also, wait for the carts to dry before trying them. I cleaned 2 separate carts and tried them immediately and my Jag didn't boot up. It was only after drying did they work. Maybe I'm a dumbass. I guess that should of been common sense, no?
