  1. Here's the picture of curupira game. The objective of this game is very simple, you move the redish guy (Curupira) around the screen to collect objects (fruits?) while dodge flying lines (arrows?). Each 5 fruits collected the game increase 1 level, it's the same thing but with faster arrows. If you don't collect the fruit in few seconds, the game is over. My record is 31 fruits. Is a really bad game, too simple and there is no sound. Doesn't looks a hack, at least, know game by me . There's a number on end label, "C-347", don't know what it means. What you think Rom? Hack or original?
  2. Yes, it might work. And I can use P1 and M1 to display the big bombs. No sprite, but squares with other colors. One friend show me a very interesting tetris project, that display coloured shapes, that is, you can paint each square in a row as desired. But for me is more easy to work with playfield pixels as I need only two colors, blue and red. Teorically, it's everthing ok

Hi people.Tetris was never my favorite stile of game but bombliss variation rules and I enjoyed it alot as a kid.If you never played bombliss, all pieces contain 1 bomb wich explodes if the row is filled.You need 2 or more bombs to explode the row, if the row haven't bombs, nothing happen but it count as "combo". With more lines filed the explosion is bigger. If the explosion touch another bombs, they explodes too. If you put 4 little bombs together, they turns into a big bomb.Well watch the video if you never played it : How this game could be done in the 2600?I think the best solution was pf interlaced lines, one line shows the blue blocks, another the bombs only.I need 2 pf data becouse the game uses 10 squares per row.The explosion fx uses GRPX over sized (quad size). The unique gap is the big bomb, they can't to be displayed, besides this, the big bomb can be coded and the effect is the same.The puzzle mode is a must have in this game.Check out the animated gif I made, this is how the bombliss could looks in the 2600, the game is plenty doable.Another project to my endless to do list
  7. Thomas.... You rule! 15 fps is the snes star fox frame rate! Everthing up to 12 is very good. Assuming you will need much time to calculate the radar and the frame rate should decrease... Personally, it's the best thing I ever saw on 2600 hardware, after interlacing chrono color.

  11. I'm really enjoying to draw these sprites. Finished all the guardians sprite, for who don't followed the previous posts, the characters uses missile object to compose a wider sprite. This rom display the pieces of animation. Mixing these pieces, I have the real animation, like the atached gif. SpriteViewer2.bin

  13. I'm converting the guardian sprites to the 2600, including the missile information. This rom is a sprite viewer, show some sprites and animations of the guardian, already using 12 fps (PoP timer) Move up or down to change the sprite or animation and press controller button to restart the animation. I need to finish others animations such attack and dead. SpriteViewer.bin

    I think the sucess of Mario Bros is the game phisics and colisions too. Even in DK. Remind me these modern flash based "Escape" games, but using one character to play, instead click with mouse in the screen objects and furniture to find the damn key.

  19. We need the missile for the sword graphics anyway... So it's not waste of rom use them for the sprites. Personally I don't care about double wide resolution, Chris and Thomas pointed that don't looks good so I'll not use 2x wide spites. The problem is, the game uses 2 scanline resolution, pushing the sprites to 2x wide resolution, the pixels looks too much blocky. What is possible to do, use a missile with fixed size - one nibble set the position, other nibble set player size. Combine the missile with player... But doesn't looks so good as using missile with size and position changes.

  21. I remember this video. The kid is J. Mechner little brother, this is why in game the prince looks like a teenage, not really an adult. The lines on floor (now I see it's a parking area) are used for reference to draw the floor bricks. Very cool video (I saw one video that appears him drawing the prince sprites too, painting the digitalized image with white and skin color). Edit : Good blog to read, there are usefull informations behind PoP development. This come from karateka : "I wanted to bring the silent-film techniques I was learning about in my history-of-cinema classes — rotoscoping, cross-cutting, tracking shots — to the Apple II." Yes, he had a background in film techniques.

  23. I've collected the blue and orange keys without the boots and I found the two boots as well. The trick is find one secret passage. This game is hard, but I liked the gameplay. Perhaps more lives turn the game a bit easier... How about the save points be light bulb turning on when enabled? The item is selected pressing down, however in a ladder you unselect the item accidentally. Very promissing game, I'm follow the progress
