  1. Wow, great score! Yeah the Demon Attack bug and fix after is famous. Here's a little info on the rom.

Ahhhh, thank you. I'll have to play my rev A cart now to make sure I still have an original version. I;ve been selling all my extra stuff, and didn't realize Demon Attack was changed.

I don't really call the original a "bug" though. It was intentional as the manual states that the game stops at the 84th wave. I think I like the original better too. It is nice to know there is an ending, however the screen should show your score rather than go completely black. Didn't the intellivision versionhave a mothership to destroy after the 84th wave as a finale. It would be cool to have that on the 2600!

Now that I know, the next time I play the infinite version I'll have to record it. It felt like I could go on forever with it.

  2. I have a strange Demon Attack cartridge that didn't end at wave 84. I was trying to see how close I could get to a "perfect" score by hitting as many of the diving demons (look like birds) that I could before the game ended. I calculated a perfect score by wave 84 would be 143,760.

However, after playing a while the game never ended. I went past 200k and knew something was wierd, then 300k, then 400k. A little over 400k the game REALLY did a reset. After finishing the second wave of tiny expanding eyeball demons, the game went back to wave 1. I knew this because the demons no longer split anymore and everything moved a bit slower as if I had just started, but my score was super high. I turned it off (it was past midnight), but took a picture before I did. This version seems to go on forever, but I didn't want to play it that long.

Anyone else have a wierd Demon Attack cart? I'll have to check the rest of mine now. I hope I have some that work properly. :ponder:

  3. I had heard/read somewhere that the original Pac-Man for the 2600 was a rushed job. The programmer had like two weeks (or something really short) to get the game completely finished starting from scratch.

  4. Thanks for the reply keilbaca! Also, Walter of Twin Galaxies got back with me today too. The holidays make it an extra busy time of year.

As for this week's HSC I broke 50k!

First maze I lost one life and had a hair over 21k. Second maze got through clean, and lost one on the third. Then made it to the fourth wave (for only the second time in my life), and lost the rest there.

  5. I have a question for you all. Sometimes, I'll start up a game and there will be a couple of 50pt dots scattered randomly about the maze. Other times, there will be dots that look like equal signs (=) which can't be eaten. Still, other times, I'll finish a board without eating all the dots. This hasn't happened very many times, but more than once. Has this happened to anyone else? I should say that I'm playing this on my Kroko cart, so I don't know if I have a bad ROM or not. Has anyone experienced this on an actual cart? What about others using the Kroko/Emu? Just curious.

That is some serious wierdness! I am playing on an actual cart, and after playing this game about 1,000,000 times this week I have not experienced that. The only wierd thing I noticed is that the screen color on the first maze changes after I play the game a few times. I swear when I first boot it up and play the first screen is green. Then after a few times it is a definite brown.

  6. Hi everyone, I see Al has made available again some cool hacks! This is great news, and one of them I want to get is the Missle Command TB. However, I have actually never used or owned any of the Atari Trak-Ball controllers.

Which one should I get the CX-80 or the CX-22 version?

Is one more responsive, comfortable, durable/reliable, than the other.

    Thanks!!

  7. Has anyone ever submitted a score to Twin Galaxies? After I did well in the HSC Bank Heist week, I ended up recording a session and sent it in (following what the website said to do, forms etc.). I figured a World Record certificate would be really cool to add to my 2600 collection. However, it has been about six weeks and not a peep. Anyone have an idea of how long it takes?

  8. My final submission for the week!!!! :D

There is a pattern to it.

My Tip: The waves that used to kill me off were the ones where the enemies can move vertically. However, after playing it enough I found they have only a few patterns. One is two ups then two downs and the other is always up. With this you can simply avoid the enemies and go for the Princess bonus. Pick up the green ones if you need to max out the reserves for the most bonus. After I started avoiding most enemies (they never move too fast to dodge) and just collect the Princess bonus points the game became much easier.
