  1. As I was sitting there last night chatting with a mate, my wee Mr Do went 'crack' and died. Sounded like a fairly large cap going off and the monitor went down to one line at the bottom (which would be the left I guess). Funny thing was the game wasn't playable at all afterwards - no sound or response so I'm not sure it was the monitor itself that went. Tomorrow I'll remove it from its spot and check it out and report back. Funny thing to see and hear a cab die in front of you though - nice popping sound!
  2. I agree but were probably accurate when they were posted in 1998 - in fact a nice Asteroid would fetch nearly 2K on eBay just four years ago, whereas now you can pay as little as $500 for a near mint. Prices for used cabs have dropped drastically in the last few years. Having said that there's a seemingly nice LL on eBay right now going for $1,850 BiN so make of that what you will.
  3. There was a Klax cabaret going locally and the guy wanted $350. It was nice and with a bit of TLC could've been near mint - seeing this post makes me kind of kick myself for not picking it up now. I just couldn't see myself (large bloke and a half) and someone else fitting side by side against a cabaret and half the fun of Klax was two-player dueling. Still - great find. That circus completely dwarf's it - is it 4' high or even lower?
  4. I own a Ms pacman, pacman/galaga anniversary cab and I just realised I play Ms/Pacman with my right hand... Yet when playing galaga I switch to left hand for controls and right for fire. How weird is it that not only do I do that, but I never noticed it until this thread.
  5. It feels completely natural for me to play with left hand for controls/right hand for jump and fire and I'm surprised anyone would think differently, I mean - look at the nintendo and sega controllers over the years, even on today's next-gen consoles 360 and Ps3 - every one of them has fire buttons on the right/movement controls on the left. Strange.
  6. http://cgi.ebay.com/1989-ATARI-CYBERBALL-O...1QQcmdZViewItem That's for Cyberball 2072 unfortunately :-( Thanks for looking out though Karl Darn it! Sorry!
  7. Wow - visual pinmame in a cab with large LCD screens - nice! Probably cheaper to put it together yourself but you can't argue with the concept. Shame pinmame isn't up to the job (don't get me wrong it's superb, but I wouldn't take it over a real pin). I would've like to see dedicated code for each table.

  9. This guy has tips on how to repro it and a cleaned up image and matte ready for print http://www.users.on.net/~bradandpam/pinball/bgscan.html Failing that then put a search scout on ebay.
  10. I'm going to say no to getting that pin. Nothing wrong with it per se, assuming it works okay at $350, but EM pins are mostly radically simple in terms of gameplay; a bagatelle with bells and whistles. If you're after a few moments fun or just like the thought of owning a pin then go for it, but they're heavy and take lots of space so it's not wise to go for something just for the sake of it. They're swines to ship for the end-user should you decide to sell it nationally - where you'll get the most money back and you should never buy a pin without playing it extensively. I guarantee that if you were to get a second, more modern SS pin circa 1989 or beyond (especially if it's a major player like Medieval Madness, Twilight Zone, Addam's Family), then you wouldn't touch your EM pin again. Granted more recent pins are $1000-$5000 but they retain their value mostly and are worth it. How many pins do you intend to buy in the next ten years? If it's less than 3 then get what you want when you can rather than settle for the first good deal that comes along. JMO. As for maintenance, keep it clean, replace rubbers as necessary, a bulb will burn out once in a while but are easy to obtain and replace and doesn't affect gameplay and you may have to replace a coil rarely (easy but you need a soldering iron). In other words, on the whole, you shouldn't be doing regular housekeeping - maybe give it a once-over every three months to see what needs replacing/addressing. FWIW there's several EM pinballs on ebay now going for a similar price so don't consider it that much of a bargain. Currently a buyers market for pins.
  11. Jeepers this is OT I know, but when will website owners realise that most folks aren't at 800x600 now. This is what TG.com looks like to me And I'm using a mere HD (sort of) rez of 1920x1200. What will they do when everyone's using Oleds @ 3250x2000+? (edit - by the way my current 28" lcd monitor cost about 5 times less than the 21" CRT IBM monitor I was using before - you don't need to have a few extra quarters to have a big monitor these days). /rant over
  12. I'm simultaneously in awe at the machine's condition and at the same time disgusted that you'd use it as a shelf for an old tandy comp. Come on man.
  13. There was one on eBay a few days ago - $356 closing bid http://cgi.ebay.com/Full-sized-Taito-Eleva...id=p3286.c0.m14
  14. I'd say ed is right. And the cab did come in white - see the flyer http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&am...037&image=2
  15. I found another picture of it http://bp3.blogger.com/_Fzq94YVbHHM/RvKnVZ...e_games_017.jpg here http://freshpics.blogspot.com/2007/09/arca...-from-past.html Looks like that was a popular shape for arcades over there http://bp2.blogger.com/_Fzq94YVbHHM/RvKnFJ...e_games_022.jpg
  16. For what it's worth the small monitor in my cabaret Mr Do was off by about two inches when I powered it up - but it didn't have a vertical hold that I could find. It had three jumpers which had UMD ( I seem to remember - is that Up, Middle and Down?) written on each and I simply moved it from U to M I think which instantly fixed the positioning. Not seen it before on any other cab - is that common Cassidy?
  17. I keep thinking back to this laser disc game. At the time I didn't even realise it was a disc game - I just thought it was leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in terms of graphics. Here's Klov's entry http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9768 This was 1983, a mere year after tron, when most games looked like DK Jr and the like... and yet this game had these graphics -> (Politely linked from dragons-lair-project.com Light years (ahem) ahead of any other game at the time - a prophetic idea of what games like Wipeout might look like 10+ years later on the new Playstation.. Plus it had stereo sound which in the sit down version was amazing as you passed by the checkered flag. It also had what seemed to the layman to be a four screen set up (but was just a split plastic bezel over a 19" monitor)... So, well it was a pre-rendered set of movies, but most importantly you could genuinely control the speed of your racer via the discan system which basically sped up or slowed down the footage by your input. So you felt like you were driving. Seemingly people in north west england or wales (where I was) seem to remember this one more than anyone for some reason. Anyway here's a vid of it in action - ignore the dubbed music. Anyway, I loved this game and as rare, in working order it seemingly is, it must be mine... So what's your 'must be mine'?
  18. And aren't the games just badly ported emus of those $20 jakk's battery things? Avoid!
  19. What's the story with the 'dot' the seller describes? Surely that unit had a spot killer?
  20. I've got to say that I've toyed with buying one of these since it first appeared. Mainly because it has a large number of older games such as moon patrol that I really couldn't justify the space for a solo cab. The smaller size, the modular build and the lack of trackball I could live with (well I'd never play Crystal Castles though). And it's clearly a more professional job than the konami piece of crap, but the lack of save - it's just such an oversight. Yes I realise that a large portion of those games didn't save originally - that's why I install save kits into my cabs. But it's the deal breaker sadly. Man though - I am tempted. Grrr... Cheers for the OP, SRgiblert, and dantheratman for posting the info and pics.
  21. I played it originally in the arcades and featuring it on a program for the BBC that I was producing. I can't remember how it differentiated from Ridge but I remember it was a lot of fun. Nice score!
  22. Thanks for the bump - completely forgot about this thread. I really hope you took pics mate!! Also, I read that scores are wiped not only on power down but even if you go back to the games menu? Confirm/deny? That would be a deal breaker for me personally even at $400.
  23. I've read conflicting reports - but according to wiki a single complete cab exists in Warren Davis' collection and I also found a ROM for it too when looking and it's talked about on TGs forums. So I guess the game itself was completed. And klov appears to have a pic http://www.klov.com/images/11/1181242106.jpg It never went into production so any completed cab would be a proto. Why not drop Warren Davis a line and ask him warren_davis@studio.disney.com
  24. Almost all cabarets are too short for an adult to comfortably stand and play. I stick bar stools next to all my minis and that works great even for a tall guy like me. This is what my Mr Do looks like from my angle. It's a baby!
