  1. Klov lists space panic as maze/labyrinth and I think that's fair since you couldn't jump. Sure it looks like platforms graphically. but really... is it? As for side scrollers well defender would be in there surely - it DOES have a background.
  2. Don't bother fixing it. Buy a CPO from these guys for $35 http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm#Graphics I've ordered from them before and they're great. Before After
  3. I did for the Asteroids. My pacman and galaga had them built in as part of the anniversary cab. Takes about 5 minutes to do the asteroids upgrade using that daughter board just be careful taking the chips out and ensure you're putting them back in the right orientation.
  4. I've gotta say that the saving of high scores adds a lot to a machine. My only cab that doesn't save is Mr Do but I'm working on it!
  5. I put one in a mate's cab. If your asteroids is rev 1 then you'll need a rev 2 chip. If your machine says "Asteroids by Atari" then you have rev 1, if it says "1979 Atari" then you have rev 2. The highscore daughterboard I bought came with a rev 2 chip. The board does more than just save highscores, it also extends the highest score possible to a million and adds 5 more hiscore slots. All in all, it's worth the $45 over attempting to build one your self imo.
  6. I've been following your posts. It seems like you're on the case! The only thing I can add is to ask if you have you checked for oxidation on the sockets themselves? Cracked cold solder? Do you get the same error with the chip removed completely?
  7. You make some fair points, but I believe the guy was simply going to swap out an old monitor for a new one, not repair the old one. CrazyC - if you take your time to read up on the danger parts of a monitor, prepare your area, have the right tools, good lighting etc you'll be fine. If you can install a graphics card into a PC you can swap out the monitor. Maybe take pics and post a tutorial for others here when you're done? G'Luck!
  8. Any chance of seeing inside this panel? - kind important. I'm seeing some watery-type orange in there too but it could be the pics.
  9. I [edit -successfully] capped an asteroids machine recently and whilst not an expert it sounds like the spot killer might have kicked in. But you talk about neon tubes on the pcb and that confuses me but it could be that I'm from across the pond (UK). Can you take some pics of the broken pcb part? Do you mean LED?
  10. Doylestown PA? Yeah I guess that's about 60 miles away. There's also another member about 10 miles from me. We should all hook up at some point for a beer and a game or two. Not got anything to trade at the moment but let me know if there's anything specific you're after as I may just be coming into a large collection (not a dealer, but I may become one. The mrs is going to kill me! )
  11. I got zapped the other day fiddling with my Mr Do. The location of some of the pots really doesn't help. But I'm not dead!
  12. This was the finished job of the encore - now replaced with the emerald..
  13. I don't mind buying a fixer-upper but NOTHING can top the bag of bits I received when I bought a megatouch 7 encore on ebay for $500 plus $150 shipping about three years ago. It was advertised as fully working - near new blah blah. It was a shit heap, broken on one side and full of mud (it's an accurate description) and stank - reeked of smoke. I virtually dissasembled it into component chips - rewired it and thanks to the great help from merit (just down the road from me which helps) I got it working 100% and it now it looks new. I wish I'd taken piccies. I ended up selling it to a friend for what I paid for... then stuck gold getting a brand new Emerald 2 for under $500. With the exception of the galaga/ms pac cab which I bought new, every item in my bar was a fixer.
  14. Am I the only collector who likes the purity of the original 4 levels. Sure the HS save feature is nice but beyond that I'm happy with the original. My Ms Pacman/galaga anniversary cab has all sorts of bells and whistles -fast pacman, rapid fire etc but I've NEVER even tried them. I don't want 'lucas' style revisions - just the game I played 25 years ago
  15. http://cgi.ebay.com/ALIENS-EXTERMINATION-S...0QQcmdZViewItem Around 8 grand should sort your out.
  16. After I powered up the bar lighting including black lights... Now keep in mind I printed out the manual myself so there wasn't any funny business going on. But wow - you can tell 25 year old paper right there - it's fairly 'brown' Something to keep in mind when shopping for an original manual/docs.
  17. Not an expert here, but when I was taking pics of the newest addition to my bar (Mr Do) I noticed this... Without black light...
  18. This pic shows the 'integrated' CP. (Heh, that pic shows every flaw! In person the CP and bezel looks fairly mint)
  19. $450? What? Lol. Wish him luck. So tonight I put the Mr do fella downstairs and took some pics. I must admit I really like this wee cab. And I did a great job on the coin mechs if I do say so myself.
  20. Hi Bill, You're right! In fact armed with that info I found a pic on this very site http://www.atariage.com/features/shows/hou...4-Images/12.jpg Weird thing is on mine there's no CP to speak of - the controls are drilled through the perspex which is the full depth of the cab. This results in the monitor being more centered than the space invaders pic which for tall guys like me means less bending down to see the top of the screen..
  21. I'll get a pic of the cab soon - hopefully have it down the bar tonight, maybe tomorrow. It's a fairly generic looking cab - old school fake-wood vinyl like on the original froggers. Scooped glare shield with no marquee. Haven't seen another one like it and a fairly extensive search hasn't revealed whether it's original. The instruction card looks right and the seller claimed the bezel was 'factory installed'. The controls are drilled through the glass (I say glass, it's perspex, but I was told it was originally glass when the unit was new in 82). (Ahh found one, kinda looks like this - I love Mr Do - it's one of those rare games where strategy is king... go for the fruit, go for the bad guys or go for the 'extra'? It's up to you how you finish a level. Fab! Thanks for the info on the jamma - maybe DK or similar will just slot in then?
  22. Highway race? http://klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=8113 Of course, Rally-X also comes to mind... as does APB. Jump bug? (sideways scroller tho) http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=8250 Hmmm....
