I've got Asteroids and Super Breakout. Seems like those were the only two offered for sale in my parts, because I looked around a fair bit for them when they came out.

I gotta say, that telescope came right outta left field. I mean, I understand clothes, jewelery and game accessories, but a telescope? -

Decided to go after Todd Rogers Galaxian record this summer

Things like this actually look good on a resume (at the end in the 'hobbies/interests' section, if that's how you lay out your resume). Often times, when it comes to a job interview, recruiters are looking for things to help them remember who you are. If you start with the assumption that everyone called for an interview has roughly the same qualification, the interview is where your personality wins or loses you the job. It's a great talking point, shows dedication and, hey, many recruiters are of the age that they remember classic games fondly, so, as others have said, don't minimize your accomplishment. Congrats on the crazy determination and perseverance. I like how on TG most of the scores are like 2 or 3 % of your total. Cool. -
Pac-Man Collection (ColecoVision) completed. Going beta test

You better hope your 'people' don't see that, or else you'll be taking care of some other things all by yourself for awhile... -
Wow, I guess for me it would be the Sega CD. What a cruel joke that turned out to be. Still, where I'm at in Canada it wasn't readily available, and priced new it was mega $$$. I scoured the fleas for weeks until I finally found a used one. I finally scored a used one and a couple of games. I enjoyed it reasonably well, but I realized that it was basically just an increased storage unit that allowed longer games with some cut scenes. My favourite game was probabaly Dark Wizard. I merged it with the whole 32X debacle (I was a Sega fanboy back then) and then I got really disillusioned with Sega. I sold the whole lot and got a 3DO. Man was I excited with that thing, but the build up just wasn't the same as it was with that Sega CD.

Hey Luc, I know I'm only speaking for myself here, but I hope a large majority of people waiting for this game are of a like mind. Don't sweat it. The weekend you described sounds like normal life...things always pop up to derail the best laid plans. Although people are paying money for this game, it is a labour of love both for you and Eduardo, but also for those of us who have waited so long. I'll gladly wait as long as it takes to get this little slice of joy into my CV...at your pace, not mine. I'm sure it's frustrating to you because this is finally so close to fruition, but again, don't' sweat it. As Eduardo knows, you never know when life will take a drastic change. One day, you'll look on those frustrating shopping trips with your ma fondly. Don't let us impatient gamers cause you to overlook the important stuff in life. Cheers. -

Woo-hoo! We're all that much closer to enjoying this gem! Even if there is no chance of getting it for Christmas, I'll take the fact that it is indeed almost ready as the gift. Well done, Opcode Games. -

I'm glad things are going along according to schedule for you guys. Also glad that it looks that PMC should be the best selling Opcode game, and hopefully come somewhat close to recouping investment (obviously not including everyone's time, because the hours that have gone into this must be in the thousands). It makes me feel good when enthusiasts get rewarded for their efforts. Luc, can you let me know if I'm on the yellow cart list? If not, dang it, but add me to the black cart list. -
Anger Issues while playing games
misspent_youth replied to phuzzed's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have my share of tossed controllers (the NES controllers were pretty tough, so it was like a license to abuse them), but I pale in comparison to one of my high school buddies. We used to go to his place and have NHL hockey tourneys on his SNES, and at one point I looked into a corner and saw a smallish pile (maybe 3 or 4) NES controllers that looked like they'd been through the wringer. I commented on it, he laughed, and then I looked a little closer. Most of them had deeply ingrained bite marks on the corners, as well as smash damage. He told me that he sometimes got so frustrated that he just chomped down on the controllers as hard as he could. He never broke a tooth though. -

Christmas may indeed be quite Merry this year after all... Thanks for the blood sweat and tears to Eduardo and Luc and all those others that have had or will have a part in making my CV so happy. -
The most promising system?
misspent_youth replied to AtticGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Maybe not for the system itself, but I think that Trip Hawkins and the 3DO bunch deserve some credit for thinking of a different model for consoles (okay, I know that they actually ripped the idea off from Emerson with the Arcadia), whereby you provide the specs and let others build it. This way, more niche markets may have been addressed, such as those looking for built-in Wi-Fi when the 360 launched. Somebody might have decided to release a PS3 that looks like the Millennium Falcon or something. An idea that had promise, but didn't go anywhere. Oh, and apologies if anyone already pointed this out, since I initially read this thread when it first started and couldn't be bothered to go back and re-read it all. -
arcade game birthday cards at Wal-Mart
misspent_youth replied to VideoFever1982's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Wouldn't surprise me if you open any one of them up and you hear the sounds for VCS Pac-Man or Donkey-Kong. After all, on TV and in movies, EVERY game sounds like VCS Pac-Man or Donkey Kong. -
I think the problem lies in the fact that patents aren't like copyrights, in that, even if you didn't copy the idea, and invented it independently, you still can't use it if you were second in line at the patent office. Also, the two years issue is likely because in whatever state that the lawsuit was filed in you only have a two year statute of limitations period. After that, too bad.

In Hogan's Alley you could shoot the innocent civilians too. Granted everyone was obviously a target in that game, but the idea was that you could be randomly violent if you wanted to. In fact, most any game with a light gun allowed you to randomly shoot the 'good' guys as well as the bad ones, so I wouldn't say it was limited to the last three generations or so.

Is this what next gen will look like? AMAZING!
misspent_youth replied to Red 5's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Celebrities already have the right to control their likeness. It's called misappropriation of personality, or a right of publicity. You can't use a well-known person's likeness without their, or their estate's (if they're dead) permission. That's why you will almost certainly never see a computer likeness of some celebrities, regardless of how good the tech is. Others, well, you'll just have to throw a big enough check at them or their descendants. -
I think I've bid against this kid before...

Good news from Opcode Games!

Got my boxed Road Fighter in the mail this week, next business day after it was sent. Poor CV is packed away until a move, but Road Fighter sure looks purty in its packaging. Can't wait to play it. Kudos to Pixleboy/Opcode Games for the A-1 transaction and product. Thanks, Luc! -
NEW Coleco ADAM Power Supply "Mini"

It looks kinda like a standard CV brick, which is kind of a nice touch, even if it was unintended. Of course, the usual question is, what will this cost? -

Have to speak up in Pixelboy's favour about my PM. Turns out it was all a dream. Seriously, my sent folder didn't have my PM there, so I didn't actually send it. Gotta give myself the old -

New Project...Mini ColecoVision...Finished!
misspent_youth replied to doubledown's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Seconded. For most classic gamers who weren't fans or had much experience with CV, the first game they think of when you mention the ColecoVision is Donkey Kong. -

Great great great work doubledown (as per usual, from what I've seen)! Methinks it's time to start putting aside my pennies so I can afford the purchase price. -
Wow, I disagree with a lot of people's opinion on Activision titles here. I love some of those repetitive games, even Sky Jinks. Goes to show, no accounting for taste. I think that Skate Boardin' was utter crap. I got that one when it came out, but I didn't pay for it, so it wasn't a real loss. One that hasn't been mentioned (I don't think), that I like a lot is Beamrider. I recently got the Activision Anthology for my GBA, and it gets 100% of the GBA's time now. Honourable mention goes to TomBrazil for talking about the marketing and imagination required for early gaming. It's why I absolutely loved reading the game catalogs every year.

Aspartame partially breaks down into methanol, which metabolizes into formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is also produced naturally by the human body. This is the reason that aspartame in diet colas is approved by the FDA; the aspartame will convert to formaldehyde in amounts that the body can metabolize normally. Of course, there is a controversy as to whether or not the FDA had an "help" in approving aspartame, and studies that link it to a host of side effects, so I just avoid it if I can.
