  1. I've always wanted a super-detailed realtime simulation of drying paint.

Ooh yeah! Or a VCS screensaver that is grass growing, and occasionally a guy with a lawnmower comes out and cuts it. Actually that would be a really hilarious homebrew and I hope someone does it -- "Ever thought something was as fun as watching the grass grow? Well you ain't seen NOTHIN' yet!"

Actually, Hover Bovver might make a fun 2600 port! :)

I also think Wheel could be done on the 2600, but you'd have a lot of stuff improvised. I'd be very impressed if an actual wheel could be displayed, and I'd be flabbergasted if it was done without flicker.

I was playing out how that could work in my head. Unfortunatly, the Wheel is a very colorful thing. Due to color limitations, I'd say you would ether have to make each slice of the wheel the same color, or just draw every other one as it spins. Don't bother trying to rotate the pieces, just keep them stationary and switch out the colors. Perhaps only show the top half of the wheel as it spins. Hey, does anybody know how big sprites can be? The wheel is kinda something that takes up the whole screen.

What makes me twitch is when they get the information clear wrong because they don't know what their talking about. I watch thing kids review on the Jaguar . . . and he didn't look up anything before posting. The best was "This console came out in that weird time period of 1996 ~ 1997 when you add all those weird consoles that weren't quiet 3D but were . . ."

    Jaguar came out in 1993 . . .

But yeah I saw an Atari 2600 review where the kid said Atari had lost from the start since the NES and Atari 2600 were released the same year . . . :x

Can you folks post URLS to those videos? I'd like to watch them.

  4. Eh, if somebody ever made fun of my atari I'd just point out I'm a collector, show them my other old systems, and show them my modern consoles to let them know I enjoy the best of both worlds. Perhaps then they would understand.

  5. As far as I can tell the base unit is the Neo Fami/Yobo FC. It is either manufactured in the same place or it was ripped off. Do original controllers work with it? I know they do with the FC. If it is the same unit I really like these. Even though they are incredibly light-weight and cheap feeling they are very durable. The carts fit snugly and I have never had a problem powering up any carts. I also haven't found any of my carts to be incompatible though I will admit I haven't tried every one of my carts and I am sure that there are carts out there that won't work. But it is a great little cheap clone. It keeps me from needing to use my original which is a good thing. It also has a good picture and sound over the included composite cables and the color palette seems to be pretty close to the original. Thanks for the great pictures of it.

It is exactly the same as the yobo fc, right down to the power button shape and red LED power indicator. The included "Retro Entertainment System" controllers are 7 pin NES style, so they'll run on your NES system as well as your YOBO FC / "Retro Entertainment System". I presume it's a complete ripoff or the Yobo corporation switching names, because the box mentions Retro Bit Inc, not Yobo Inc. The main problem is the cartridge slot. it's way too tight, and you gotta really hold down the system while you remove the cartridge. I've been thinking of replacing it's cheap 72 pin connector with a real NES pin connector to make switching carts easier and do less damage to my cartridges.

Also, the controllers have a very annoying blinking LED on them when you engage the "slowmo" feature. (quickly pausing and unpausing. It's a worthless feature that doesn't work on anything other than SMB)

No assembly required. Kitty not included.

  6. I bought the N64 controller pirate at my mall, the Atari 2600 10-1 at a Fred Meyer, and the Retro Entertainment system and cartridges on ebay. Those pirate cartridges don't come up very often on ebay. You'll be lucky to get 1 or two listings up every couple of months. The price is okay I guess. $13 average for one cartridge.

I forgot if you needed to sign up, but people regularly post lists of items they want to buy/sell/trade, and most often there will be pirated cartridges/systems in their auctions ranging from $5 to $60 depending on it's rarity and quality.

    Some examples of recent listings:
