  1. We used to use UUCP for transferring email over dial-up - not on an Atari mind you. I haven't explored MiNT at all, other than it's a *NIX on atari. I guess, maybe, you could compile SendMail to work...?

A quick google for ATARI ST UUCP stumped up "MT C-Shell UUCP" which you might be able to track down, of cause you will need a modem, a modem supporting ISP and someone still hosting a UUCP supporting mailserver to point your MX records at. You might not need a modem as UUCP will run over TCP/IP connections too but then that creates more problems I guess.

If you get this working, I'd be fascinated. Good luck.

  2. Many, many moons ago, I used to love coding using STOS on my ST. Having recently acquired a HDD for my ST, and having fitted a memory upgrade I quite fancy having another look at it. What are the best websites to get inspiration from? I always used vanilla STOS, but STOS 3D looks kind of interesting :) I tried google but many of the sites seems WIP or down :(

    Thanks in advance,

    Will.

  3. Pssst.........try using the Private Messaging (PM) feature here on the forum.... ;)

I prefer email over PMs. My address is on the bottom of every page on my website. :)

Yeah, I've always wondered about PM's and if they can be read by forums' administration, resulting in privacy loss, I tend to think that they can indeed be read by Albert or Jay -at least since they are the top administrators but I really don't think their the type that would invade privacy, snoop, or really care or have the time or desire to be reading their members' PMs on their forums.

Nevertheless there is that feeling of more privacy that email has over PMs, which only your ISP could read but surely won't in most instances. I really don't expect someone with the name 3DOKID who loves the 3DO system to fork over $10,000.00 dollars for a 100 piece run of Jag Skunks, but I put your email here for him anyway because it offers the most privacy, and I posted it in a way that I hope cannot be read by crawlerbots searching for emails to bombard with spam, the same way you have it on your site.

Did I ask for this? Honestly?

Point 1: $10,000 isn't that much. I have a nice job, a big house, a posh car. Don't worry about me.

Point 2: The opportunity was to do sales and distribution for skunkboards. My master plan was to try and get a few more boards for the community and aim to make enough profit to have one for myself for free.

Point 3: Is it so impossible to love two consoles? Seriously? They aren't women you know, they're machines. ;)

Point 3: Do you just type unfriendly naturally? Or do you practice?

  4. Ahhh. It does have one. I looked around, the link is usually under your avatar but it wasn't there :) Thanks.

Are you coming to Jagfest? Because there will be a few Skunkboards there.

    I bought tickets today :)

    Skunboards there? To buy?

  5. I don't think we've got any plans to do more. If someone wants to front the cash to buy 100 upfront and deal with distributing themselves, maybe then we can talk. ;) Otherwise there are too many things taking attention right now.

Seriously? Is there any way I can contact you? Other than in public? :) (3dokid at googlemail dot com)

    I would be interested.

  6. It's not just the magazines. There has been something of a battle for the EA wikipedia entry. A certain version not mentioning Trip Hawkins. A recent copy of Edge Magazine (NG in the US I think) had a time line of consoles that bypassed the Jag/3DO era entirely. Most articles in retro magazines seem to be ignorant of Jag/3DO releases. (One Pitfall article that made me spew spring to mind) i wouldn't mind so much but 3DO and the Jag basically paved the way for games consoles since the turn of the 1990s. Sega and Nintendo had managed to run the industry into a slump and the Playstation was merely a twinkle. 3DO, CDi, Jag, Neogeo made the industry, firstly exciting again, secondly set a vision for the industry that hasn't changed in 16 years. I don't think it's conspiracy - I just think it's bone-idleness by the mags and the big websites. I also feel that now the current gen (which seems to be the second-to-last-step for the fruition of the ideals laid down by 3DO) has reached it's stride, that retro-gaming is on the wane once more for perhaps a couple of years, and history is being carved, once again, by the winners.

I realize that a lot of gamers think that the early 90s belonged to the SNES and the Genesis (MD) but IMHO all the innovation was in the arcade and on the emerging super consoles: namely Jaguar and 3DO. Sega and Nintendo were stifling the industry, 3DO and Atari liberated it.

    Well - that's my opinion :)

  7. Could I bring my 3DO collection? I have a good solid collection of games (250+) various 3DOs and peripherals, plenty of rare/import stuff, joysticks, VCDs etc., etc., who do i need to talk to?

    Thanks

  8. OK. Finally, after 14 years of disappointment, Santa finally pulled through and delievered the one thing I have always longed for. An Atari Jaguar CD. Which leaves but one question. Well. Actually two questions. The first question is: What happened to all the Egg-nog? ...oh, I see, I drank it. The second question is: What cool things can I do with the Jag CD player? Is there a wiki or a guide or an FAQ or something.

    All the best! Merry Christmas!!!

  9. I will always stand by Power Drive Rally. :)

oh yeah? and do you stand by this:

    2. Wing Commander III.

You couldn’t do this on the SNES, or for that matter the N64. To make a game as vastly wonderful, as immersive, as fun as this you need shiny disks. No, there is no getting away from it. Cartridge based systems, like the Atari Jaguar, could not do a game like this. You see, no matter how you compress, twist, stick, edge or bet, you can’t put FMV onto a 2Mbit cartridge and then squeeze in a half decent game. CD arrived – and it arrived on the 3Do on 4 CDs with Mark Hamill riding shotgun.

You know we gotta give ya shit :P

    Ha-Ha  i do indeed! I'm known in certain parts for my gushing 3do fanboyism. :) Still - it's true. ;) :P

Power Drive Rally is good though. Needs more CD quaity FMV mind - but good none the less! :D

  10. Hello everyone!

I've been playing Zero 5 for a while now and I have to say I'm liking it a lot. It's as hard as nails, but very fun. It seems to be something of a marmite game (either you love it or hate it!) I just wondered what other people thought. Frankly I thought it was better than Tempest. Bit of a heretic thing to say I know, but it's true.

While I'm here - Towers II worth the money?

  11. I really enjoyed Thrash Rally on the NeoGeo - which is rock hard. I'm quite chuffed because i only paid about £4 ($8 USD) for Power Drive Rally and despite the memory issue which doesn't seem to want to go away but I think it's the contacts, it's a lot of fun. It seems to have plenty of play time in it - which is good too!

    3DO Kid.

  12. I like this. It's very basic and very 16bit but it's fun. Anyone else enjoy this? - I don't see much talk about it!

On another note - when my copy tries to save, it sometimes takes a very long time and sometimes just sits there - how do saves work on the Jag? is it to the Cart or is there an internal memory and the battery is dead...?

    Cheers

    3DO Kid!

  13. You wanna talk about bad FPS games, lets talk about DOOM on the 3DO! :D ;) Only kidding...sort-of. I've actually never played it but I've read a lot about it...

No - really - it is bad. The worst apparently. Utterly dreadful. It is an appalling conversion. Some people consider Wolfenstein on the 3DO to be the best conversion. I couldn't possibly comment - well i did on my blog - but I won't here!

I really need to get a 3DO one of these days though...It's about the last common system from the mid 90's I need. And being the Doom fanatic I am, I'd have to give the 3DO version a go.

Freedo 1.9 http://www.freedo.org, runs 3DO Doom fine now on your PC. ;)

  14. You wanna talk about bad FPS games, lets talk about DOOM on the 3DO! :D ;) Only kidding...sort-of. I've actually never played it but I've read a lot about it...

  15. apparently, I remember reading that some people simply don't see frame rate issues. Nothing to do with rose tint - they simply don't register it. It's just how their eye-brain co-ordination works.

  16. Why do so many people feel the need to slam other peoples' taste in games? "DOOM is boring", "AvP is almost unplayable", etc. Look, just because 'A' thinks a game is not to his/her taste, doesn't necessarily make it a bad game, so have a little respect for the fact that we all have different tastes and opinions.

AvP sold something like 100,000+ copies, and DOOM sold - God only knows how many copies. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't invalidate the opinions of all those thousands of others.

Well, except Double Dragon V. I think we can all agree that game smells like ass.

I think in fairness it's not slamming other peoples opinions and that isn't the intent with which many, if not most, of all these opinons are written - It is usually a strong desire to emphasise ones own opinion. Which is slightly different. And having to type 'IMHO' after every comment can be a chore! ;)

I do think Doom is boring. However, if you think Doom is not boring, then for future reference, I don't think of you as any less of a person for holding a different opinion. After all - it's just a video game ;)

  17. personally i cant believe there are more votes for AVP

On a jaguar forum? Come now. It was going to be emotive. Perhaps which version of Doom was better? PC or Jag? Or which version of Wolfenstein was better 3DO, PC or Jag but Doom vs AvP? Easy win.
